"Great location for a wintery week in Looe, we used it as a base for walking the coastal paths and exploring as many pubs and places to eat as possible."
Enjoyed the cottage, but it could do with a welcome guide to explain the heating/hot water (already relayed this to owner).
Hi Paul, so pleased that you enjoyed your wintery week in Looe! And also thanks for reminding us about the welcome guide - we had removed the guide provided by the previous letting agent and have now compiled a new one to email to all guests prior to their arrival. We hope that you visit Sun Cottage again in the future. Best wishes, Derek and Joanne.

"The property is in an amazing location, with reserved parking nearby."
It was very clean (apart from the ensuite shower needing a bit of deep cleaning) We had a great week in Looe, with good weather. Shops and eateries are within easy walking distance, which was good for me, with limited mobility. The sofas and beds were comfy and the cottage is very spacious.
However, there were too many things wrong with the property for us to contemplate either returning or recommending it. First the outside area: described as "enclosed" we were very concerned that there is access for anyone to walk in from the streets, as there is no gate to prevent this. We didn't feel able to leave the patio doors unlocked for this reason. Also there were weeds and moss that should have been cleared prior to our arrival.
There was no welcome pack or handy clear instructions for anything. The wi-fi code took some finding, tucked away in an info book in a drawer under the coffee table. There was no starter pack for the woodburner, despite this being stated in the proprty description. We asked the caretaker for some but he replied that they do not provide this. Luckily we found an electric heater stored away in a cupboard.
We had no hot water for 48hours because we were under the misunderstanding that we needed to know how the "gas range for hot water" worked and we couldn't find instructions anywhere; apparently there were controls by the back door, which we hadn't seen.
When we turned the ensuite light on, there was an unbearable noise from the fan, which meant we couldn't use the light at all, until the caretaker fixed this. Although it was known that the shower head was faulty (it had Heath Robinson repair work on it) no permanent repair had been arranged. There's no alternative shower for hairwashing in the bathroom either.
There are no wardrobes in the twin room. There are no doors on either the twin or upper floor rooms.
Lighting in the living room is very poor in one half of the room. Luckily a previous reviewer had mentioned this and I had packed USB chargeable lamps with me (one of which was put to use in the ensuite before the fan noise problem was fixed)
The most annoying aspect of this property is that there are no coatpegs anywhere! There is plenty of room in the hallway to fix numerous coatpegs and we failed to understand why there were none. Our coats spent most of the week on the floor, having fallen off the shoe rack.
There were no less than 4 remote controls for the tv, yet we failed to find any workable volume control in any of them.
Only one yale key is available for the property, despite there being 2 locks. I am unable to use the keysafe, being partially sighted and the caretaker was understandably reluctant to provide the only other available key.
The thing that upset us most about our week was that the caretaker entered our holiday home to fix some things without first asking or informing us of his intentions. He texted me after he had been.In our opinion, this is an absolute no-no - totally unacceptable!

"Nice cottage in a good location."
Everything you need in the large kitchen. Bedrooms good but could do with a rail or something in the twin room to hang clothes. The shower is also a bit small in the on suite. Plenty of room downstairs. Good sized bathroom, bath but no shower. Could not use the garden chairs as they needed a good clean. Over all a nice cottage and would stay here again. Only one bath towel each provided for a week and one hand towel in each bathroom/shower room. Had to wash them and also bought more in case needed. Did get the dry quick as sunny weather. There was 5 of us staying so more towels were needed.
Hi Linda, apologies for the delay in responding to your feedback. Thank you for your positive comments about the cottage. We take all feedback seriously as it helps us to improve the quality of holidays for future guests.
We have let the cleaning team know about the lack of towels during your stay. Our intention is to provide one bath and one hand towel per guest. We will also add this information to the Sykes website so that guests can decide whether to bring extra towels with them over and above the number provided.
Going forward, we have arranged regular cleaning of the courtyard, including the garden furniture, although it is never possible to guarantee complete cleanliness as moss often falls off the surrounding roofs and seagulls insist on continuing to poo in the courtyard!
Unfortunately there are some things we cannot change. The height of the ceiling in the twin room (which means we cannot provide either a full height clothes rail or a wardrobe in this room) and the size of the en-suite shower. We are very happy that these issues didn’t spoil your holiday and we would love to welcome you back to Sun Cottage in the future.
Thanks again,
Best wishes,

"The cottage inside was clean and well equipped, the kitchen was a lovely area to sit and eat."
The beds were comfortable. The plumber had to be called to the shower as we couldn’t regulate the temperature, he said it needed a new part and as long as we didn’t touch the temperature dial it would be ok .
It was in a great location close to the beach and shops, however we did have trouble sleeping at times due to the amount and closeness of the seagulls.
The cottage advertised outside space with a table and chairs and we looked forward to be sitting outdoors in the sun for a meal or a drink, however we didn’t sit out once due to it being very dirty, the paving slabs were filthy, there was moss and weeds growing between them and the chairs and sun umbrella cover had green mould on them. The bbq cover was filthy .
We complained upon return and were told that a call to the cleaner would have quickly solved the problem, but the outdoor space should have been clean and tidy when we arrived, in my opinion it need jetwashing.
Hi Lesley, apologies for the delay in responding to your feedback. We are always grateful that guests take the time to let us know about their holiday experience as it helps us to improve the facilities at Sun Cottage. And thank you for your positive comments about the cottage.
We are very sorry that you didn’t use the courtyard during your stay. We have arranged for regular cleaning of both the courtyard and the garden furniture going forward so that future guests can enjoy outside time in a pleasant environment.
Our Property Manager and cleaning team are always available to help with any issues at the cottage. It is a shame that they didn’t have the chance to give you the outdoor experience that you expected.
We agree that the local seagulls can be noisy, especially when they are waking up in the morning! It is helpful that you have mentioned this as we can advise light sleepers to bring ear plus with them if they are concerned that seagull chatter might disturb their sleep. There is no escaping the seagulls so close to the seaside!
Thanks again for your comments.
Best wishes,

"First the good stuff:
Location is great - for those that know Looe I would say 1/2 way between Co-op and beach."
For those that don’t, it’s very central and the co-op to beach is about 500m and it’s in the middle.
Very spacious property. Good size bedrooms, lounge and downstairs bathroom. Fabulous kitchen - very well stocked with plenty of plates/dishes/cooking utensils etc. Comfy sofas in lounge area and plenty of room.
On the first floor is the master with en-suite. Also, tucked away on the first floor is the bedroom with 2 single beds. Second floor is another big (mezzanine) bedroom.
I would preface my review by saying the house is set up for families - not 4 adults as we were.
The only shower was in the en-suite which wasn’t great for the person staying in that room (that’s also the only upstairs loo) and the shower is TINY. It’s probably about 70cm square which is fine for kids and very petite adults but your average adult will struggle. We had two people who were 6’2 and they just couldn’t use it - which meant they had to use the bath every day which was a pain.
The twin room is obviously set up for kids. No wardrobes - just a set of 4 drawers. No mirror or a basic table to sit and dry your hair.
As 4 adults, the bathroom situation really had grated on us by the end of the week. I would imagine that 2 parents with kids (as long as no-one is tall or on the heavier side) would find this fine but it didn’t work well for us.
If I were to make some recommendations to make it adult friendly as well as family friendly it would be: put a shower over the bath downstairs. That’s a huge space and would massively improve things. A couple of lamps in the lounge would benefit the darker days when it’s dark and cloudy. In the hallway between the master and twin place a clothes rail and a small table with mirror - doesn’t have to be fancy just practical - for those using the twin room.
I was very torn with this cottage because owners have obviously spent a lot of time thinking about the kitchen, lounge etc - and it shows but I do think it needs advertising as a family cottage as that is the set up.
We did stay an extra day as the traffic coming down on a Friday was horrendous and that was processed efficiently. I am grateful that the owners processed that request quickly.
All in all I would give 3.5 stars. I’d give 4.5 if the bathrooms had been more accommodating.
Pls note, there are no doors on the top floor bedroom or the twin bedroom - didn’t matter to us but May to others. Also, TV is apps only (iplayer and Netflix and prime) no regular TV. Again didn’t matter to us but May to others
Hi Sarah, thanks for your comprehensive feedback and please accept our apologies for not responding sooner.
We are delighted to hear your positive comments about Sun Cottage - thank you! We have indeed spent a lot of time making the cottage as homely and comfortable as possible as we also stay here and it is our ‘home from home’. We are also happy that we could process your request to stay an extra day quickly and efficiently.
You suggest that the cottage is set up for families. This is definitely true but it is also definitely set up for groups of adults to enjoy as well. When we stay, we often have friends joining us (5-6 of us at a time) with very little inconvenience. It does involve managing the shower rota and the adults in the top bedroom have to use the downstairs bathroom throughout the night. All of this is completely unsurprising when referring to the cottage description and photographs on the Sykes website, which clearly show what facilities are available and where they are located .
We are always a bit disappointed to receive feedback on issues such as not providing a wardrobe or a table for drying hair in the twin bedroom, and the twin room and top bedroom not having doors, when all of these issues are easily identifiable from the photos of the cottage on the Sykes website prior to booking. We will ensure that a mirror is added to the twin room for future guests.
The en-suite shower is certainly not huge. Unfortunately we are not able to do anything about the height of the shower for structural reasons. The cottage has a finite amount of space available and alterations are not always practicable. Nor is there sufficient space on the first floor landing for a clothes rail and a table and chair; we have to comply with fire regulations and adding furniture on this landing would create a potential block to the escape route from the twin bedroom in the event of a fire.
We have no plans to add a shower over the downstairs bath. Nor do we have plans to add more lighting to the living room. Tea lights can often be found in the kitchen drawers to add some atmospheric lighting to the living room, in keeping with the style and age of the cottage. If all the tea lights have been used, they can be bought from the Guildhall Market in Fore Street for a reasonable price.
NOTE FOR FUTURE GUESTS: Candles should never be left unattended and should always be carefully extinguished after use.
The TV is being replaced soon. It has a confusing number of control boxes which isn’t helpful so the replacement will be simpler and easier to use.
Thank you again for your feedback Sarah. You are obviously familiar with Looe so we really hope that your positive experiences at Sun Cottage will entice you back for another stay.
Best wishes,
Derek & Joanne

"Two days before arriving, we were called to say that scaffolding was up next door and intrusive."
We asked for more information and then later were told it was being removed. On arrival, the scaffolding was being moved, we thought great. However, on day 2, we woke to a man on the scaffolding on the back property making a massive amount of noise.
The main bathroom downstairs had not been cleaned and urine was dried over the toilet and pubic hair in the bath.
It would have been good to have some instructions on how to use the heating in the property.
The noise at night is a lot so if you have young children do be aware of this.
The positives were that the house is spacious, close to everything, comfortable and everything you could need is there.
Hi Lisa, thank you for taking time to send us feedback and apologies for taking so long to respond.
First, please let us offer our sincere apologies for the disruption to your holiday which was caused by the scaffolding and building work at the back of the courtyard. As owners, we were given late notice about this work and are very sorry for the noise and intrusion that this caused during your stay.
Secondly, there are no excuses for the uncleaned bathroom and this matter has been raised with the cleaning team and, hopefully, will not be repeated.
The cottage heating system definitely needs explaining so we have recently compiled a new information pack for the cottage which includes how to use the heating, along with many other useful tips and information. This will be sent out to new guests prior to arrival.
As the cottage is in the centre of the old town, there is invariably some noise in the busier parts of the season, especially during the evening when holiday makers are out and about and enjoying the hospitality of Looe. The twin bedroom at the back of the cottage is the quietest and darkest room so more suitable for children or light sleepers.
Thank you again for your feedback Lisa. We do hope that you will return to Looe for another stay in Sun Cottage.
Best wishes,
Derek & Joanne

Rooms are good size as well as downstairs living room area with a large modern kitchen.
We had internet problems but this was unfortunately a BT issue and took several days to resolve. We didn’t receive our welcome pack but was refunded this by the owner.
Hi Barry, thank you for the feedback on your stay at Sun Cottage and apologies for not responding more quickly.

Property lovely
Could do with a deep clean fans an floors in bathroom poor
Also outside rubbish just left
No welcome sheet to explain things like TV
No outside bin
Heating etc
Some basic information would normally be standard
Hi Carolyn, thank you for your feedback and apologies for our (very) delayed response.
We are sorry that you found some aspects of your stay in our cottage to be unsatisfactory. Our Property Manager and cleaning team are always available during guests’ stay to respond to all questions and problems.
The absence of an outside bin during your stay is surprising. We have a large Council bin which is kept round the back of the cottage and the rubbish collection day is usually on a Monday.
As you were staying at Sun Cottage during the Christmas/New Year holiday, we can only conclude that collection days were changed due to Bank Holidays and maybe bins were not left in the correct places during this period. This is not an excuse - having rubbish lying around is not acceptable and we apologise.
We have recently compiled a new and updated information pack for guests that is full of useful information and tips. We completely agree that this will help guests to navigate to idiosyncrasies of the cottage.
Thank you for taking time to share your comments. We hope that you will consider returning to Sun Cottage in the future.

"We all really enjoyed the cottage, very clean, warm, comfortable, well equipped and ideally located in the very beautiful Looe."
The only small drawback is the 2nd floor bedroom not having an en-suite thus entailing a walk down to the bathroom on the ground floor - we personally would also have liked TV's in the bedrooms - but these points would not put us off from returning here in the future.
Hi John, thank you for your feedback and apologies for the ridiculously long delay in replying to you.
We are so happy that you enjoyed your Christmas break at Sun Cottage and hope that you will return for another stay in the future.
Regarding TVs in the bedrooms - we will have to agree to disagree on this issue! If our grown up children ever read this review, they will be rolling their eyes in total agreement with you, and in exasperation at our continued intransigence on this much debated family issue!
Thanks again for your kind comments.
