  • "Very well equipped cottage perfectly located for South Devon costal walks and seaside."

    Mr FinoAug 2023

  • "Charming little cottage and very comfy!"

Really had a fun week here with lots of beautiful coastal walks nearby, as long as you like hills! The village shop was open when we stayed (early October), but would recommend that you bring all your food with you, as it is well out of the way, which is what we wanted.

    Mr TaylorOct 2022

  • "About my 5 time I have stayed in vine cottage."

So that says it all. Home from home. I will be back.

    Mr GayAug 2022

  • "Lovely cottage and very well equipped."

Comfortable inside, with a beautiful enclosed garden outside. It has steep stairs so not ideal for anyone with mobility problems but it is a very old cottage and they are part of its charm. Well situated close to the village centre, but quiet.

    Ms ElliottJun 2022

  • "Delightful, homely cottage in a beautiful village."

Vine cottage was well equipped clean and comfortable. The village is friendly and welcoming. The walks and beaches are outstanding.

    Mrs StruttMay 2022

  • "I stayed at Vine Cottage for a fortnight and it was a real home from home."

It was quiet, cosy and comfortable and the garden was a lovely place to relax on sunny days. East Prawle is in a great location for walking. The coast path is only a mile away, and there’s some great dog friendly beaches to explore within walking distance. I only really needed to use the car to go to the farm shop for supplies. Be warned though - wherever you walk to there is a very big hill to climb up to get back to the village! There’s a great little cafe in the village for coffees and ice creams and the village shop has the essentials if you run out of something. I would take groceries with you or get a delivery soon after you arrive as the nearest supermarket is in Kingsbridge which isn’t far but takes a while on single track lanes. I loved the cottage and the location and would definitely go back.

  • "Lovely cottage, very well equipped and well placed for coastal walks."

A short drive to foot ferry for Salcombe, 20 mins drive to Kingsbridge, 40 mins Salcombe. We appreciated the well fenced garden for our dog and the off road parking too. In summer you could abandon the car and walk 45 mins to an hour to a selection of lovely beaches for the day too.

    Mrs FrankelMay 2022

  • "Beautiful cottage, very tidy and well presented in the heart of East Prawle and a short walk to the local amenities and spectacular walks."

Nice sized garden to sit out in and benefits from own parking bay. Arrival presented no difficulties and very easy to settle in. Recommended.

    Mr JohnsonOct 2021

  • "We had a great time."

The cottage was homely and well-equipped, the garden was pretty and full of birds, and the location was ideal. Thank you.

    Mrs HalesJun 2021

  • "Interesting cottage in a delightful setting."

Very comprehensively equipped more like a home than a holiday home.Nothing forgotten.

    Mr D PowellJun 2021

  • "The cottage was lovely and the facilities provided in it were probably the best we have ever experienced."

It was lovely and quiet and out of the way. It is an ideal place as a base for coast walkers. As with everywhere at the moment, the COVID restrictions meant limited access to the pub and village store, but there is nothing anyone can do about that at the moment. The one drawback for us (70 years of age) was the drive down the narrow roads/lanes from the nearest town of Kingsbridge, and negotiating with other vehicles, some of which drove far too fast for the conditions, but I suppose the locals know the route. Not good for someone who is slower behind the wheel of a car. We had to leave early on account of my health (I am a recovering cancer patient), which was a pity.

    Mr TuckerSep 2020

  • "The cottage was very well stocked and had all the appliances and equipment needed."

It was warm and cosy and light and airy. The garden is gorgeous and the setting is excellent for the South West Coast path and the South Hams area generally. We love East Prawle and this is a great place to stay for 2 or 3 people. Thank you

    Mr CooperAug 2020

  • "Lovely little holiday cottage."

We loved the garden and East Prawle was such a great village to base ourselves in with loads of great beaches nearby. The house had everything we needed and lovely to be in an old thatched cottage.

    Ms DesforgesJul 2020

  • "Vine Cottage, East Prawle is utterly delightful in every way."

In the age of continuous feedback and requests for such I'm seemingly bombarded with organisations asking for me to rate them, their products and services. In this case I'm happy to tell you that this cottage exceeded my expectations, no small accomplishment. Perhaps because the owners 'live' in the property on occasion, possibly as they are extremely thoughtful, in all aspects you find what you need. For example, all of the knives are sharp, the sofa and chairs can be sat on comfortably, the garden can be enjoyably sat in, the great pub is just 2 minutes walk away but not so near noise is an issue, a fabulous walk (Prawle Point) is on your doorstep and does not require you to get into your car. My wife and I, with our dog, had the most wonderful holiday, helped in no small part by fabulous late summer weather, in South Devon. A beautiful part of the world, and a lovely cottage. Lovely.

    Mr StellmacherAug 2019

  • "Perfect base for walking in the area, with some of the best coastal walks in Britain."

    Mr BrockJun 2019

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful location in a wonderful little village over looking the sea."

The cottage is extremely well equipped with everything you need including maps, information about the area, games, books, videos and even folding chairs for you to take out with you so you can sit in comfort with your picnics. Back garden is secure for pets and is a lovely place to sit in the evening.

    Mr LancasterMay 2019

  • "Area is no good for older people ,the roads are poorly signposted and the parking space was too small for a larger car."

The cottage itself was brilliant and had everything you would need.lwould say that young active people would love it.lovley garden and very good WiFi.

    Mr TaylorApr 2019

  • "Lovely little cottage, possibly the best equipped I've ever come across."

Kind hosts called early in the holiday to ensure all was well, then left us to enjoy the place. Despite poor weather, we (my Golden Retriever and I) still had a wonderful time. Thank you, Sykes and thank you our kind hosts. Please may we come again?

    MIss StapleNov 2018

  • "The cottage was equipped with everything we needed."

It was very clean and pretty. The only downside was that we didn’t realise how remote it would be and we had to travel many miles to get anywhere. Aoart from that we couldn’t fault it.

    Mrs WrenJun 2018

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful area."

Also helped by the weather! Only slight problem was the noisy water heater in the night as uses off peak power. Many extras, not found in other properties

    Mrs HerringJun 2018

  • "Loved Vine Cottage."

Warm and welcoming. Very glad to be able to take our dog along too as there are wonderful coastal walks nearby. Also friendly natives in Piglet Café and the very quaint Pig's Nose Pub just a short stroll away. All worth a visit! Kingsbridge is a delight just the narrow bendy single track roads on route can be a bit nerve wracking!

    Mrs ParksApr 2018

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Clean, well equipped and very warm. Really enjoyed our week. Thank you.

    C.MoodyOct 2017

  • "Vine Cottage is a lovely homely cottage, beautifully equipped and furnished."

It was in a perfect location for us, being able to take full advantage of the lovely walks/paths with our dogs. Also the fact we had a dedicated parking space was a wonderful bonus. East Prawle is a lovely location and we would fully recommend Vine Cottage. Thank you again to Helpful Holidays for their expertise and efficiency.

    Mrs CashOct 2017

  • "Peaceful location, cosy cottage & lovely walks."

    Miss H BashamOct 2017

  • "Fabulous location for walkers and seaswimmers."

Well equipped comfortable cottage with sea view from bedroom and nice garden with countryside views and lots of birds. Very close to shop and pub.

    Dr StevensAug 2017

  • "Vine Cottage was clean and comfortable and situated in an unspoilt village and area."

Good scenic walks can be made from the doorstep.

    Mr D BrownJun 2017

  • "Helpful holidays were excellent and were such lovely people to talk to and I had complete confidence in the Company."

Our cottage was fabulous and I\'ve recommended helpful holidays to family and friends, thank you so much

    Mrs MartinMay 2017

  • "We enjoyed our stay in Vine Cottage, it is ideal if you have a dog, as the cottage is comfortable, but not luxurious so we did not feel anxious about the dog being with us."

The village has an interesting pub which we visited a few times, and it felt welcoming and the food was good traditional pub food. The café was also very good, we would often stop for an ice cream as a treat after a strenuous walk. We were lucky with the weather, which meant we could explore the surrounding area and see it at it\'s best. We would certainly return, and would be happy to recommend Vine Cottage to friends.

    Mrs HodgsonMay 2017

The children loved the pub and the green. It's also great for walks. Vine cottage exceeded our expectations with cleanliness, equipment and a homely feel. The neighbours who caretake the cottage were welcoming and helpful. We really enjoyed our time there. It was perfect for our family of four.

    Miss HubbardAug 2016

  • "We loved our week in Devon and it was made all the more enjoyable by our stay in Vine Cottage, East Prawle."

A unique village with an equally unique village shop and pub. A good location for visiting the area and the cottage exceeded our expectations. It was clean, had a great sized garden, was equipped with everything we needed and more and we were made to feel very welcome by the neighbours, with a plate of scones and clotted cream! We would love to return and will recommend it to friends and family.

The property

Vine Cottage is a 300 year old Grade II listed thatched cottage, third in a row of four.

At the front, a gate shared with next door takes you to a small forecourt.

The front door opens into the entrance porch with storage for boots/coats.

The cosy living room is beamed with a storage heater, electric ‘wood burning’ style stove and a limited sea view.

From there you pass into a tiled lobby, to the left steep stairs with freezer underneath, to the right the refurbished bathroom, ahead a step up to the fitted kitchen, with storage heater, oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine and large dining table.

The backdoor is stable style and takes you to a small paved area and up several steps to the L shaped fenced rear garden with lawn and picnic bench.

(The gate at the bottom of the garden leads to a path, ruined outbuildings and the garage which are not included in the letting).

The parking space is beside the garage at the rear.

The staircase is steep and has a step on the landing.

There are two bedrooms. The front bedroom has a double bed and a partial sea view, and the back bedroom looks over the garden and has a single bed with a trundle. Both bedrooms have storage heaters.

The cottage is in the beautiful South Hams of Devon where single track roads with passing places wind through steep Devon banks and a fair amount of the coast is National Trust.

East Prawle is to the east of the Salcombe estuary, (Salcombe is on the far side), near the most southerly point of Devon, Prawle Point.

It is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to the South West Coast path, Start Point lighthouse and spectacular coastal scenery, within easy distance of all kinds of beaches and places of interest, with Dartmoor further afield. The sailing towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe are within easy driving distance.

Salcombe is accessible by passenger ferry from East Portlemouth just a few miles down the road.

In East Prawle village there is a pub, the Pigs Nose, A Pizza Me with licensed bar, (check website), plus Piglet Stores and Piglet café, (both seasonal), and in East Portlemouth Village Farm café and farm shop.

Near to the village of East Prawle you will find the 'secret' beach known as Maceley Cove.Accessed via a steep and narrow cliff path Maceley Cove is a small sandy cove below the rocky bulk of Gammon Head on the South Devon coast and welcomes your 4 legged friends all year round.

The nearest town is Kingsbridge, an appealing market town with supermarkets various independents and a lovely bookshop.

Springfield and Stokeley farm shops are on the way to Kingsbridge and Dartmouth respectively.

There are boat trips from Dartmouth and Salcombe, and lovely countryside, attractions and places to eat in the wider area too numerous to mention.
