  • "This was our third time staying at Shippen Cottages, we really enjoy staying here."

The cottages are located in a lovely quiet road that is central to both the coast and inland activities. The owners are lovely and really make us feel so welcome during our stay, Anne is a wonderful baker and there is always a cake there when we arrive. We have been deep sea fishing from Lyme Regis and brought some fish home and cooked it If you enjoy sewing I attended a course in Honiton at a lovely sewing shop .the garden at the cottages is full of birds due to all the feeders, ark the owner provides spotters book and binoculars so relaxing to sit on the deck and look for all the different birds. We saw a gorgeous Woodpecker this time Overall I would highly recommend a stay at the cottages, we loved our stays. We also visited the Donkey Sanctuary which has a marvellous restaurant where we had a great meal. We will be going back again

We booked the cottage for a week beginning of July 2024 superb is all we can say , very homely, so clean , on arrival we had milk, tea coffee & one of the tastiest cakes we have ever eaten , they even catered so well for dogs , home made treats ready for them , loads of information about your area for walks , eating , places to visit , pubs , anything you needed they had it catered for even to pair of binoculars to watch the birds & wildlife just outside your window , book it you will love it

  • "A lovely week in the cottage."

Sadly the owner is not in charge of the weather! Really lovely views and fabulous if you are a bird watcher. Sadly the side road from the A35 makes the approach very difficult. Many potholes and very narrow, although the owner believes it is to be repaired soon.

Very happy to say at last all the potholes have been filled and the majority of the lane has been totally resurfaced. Property Owner

Owners very hospitable and accomodating, and we loved the homemade banana cake! Our dog loved the adjacent meadows. Close to all amenities (by car), only negative it is on a steep narrow pot holed hill. We were able to access beaches on the Devon and Dorset coasts easily. Had a lovely relaxing stay!

1 Shippen Cottages was first class. From the comfort of the furnishings to the utensils in the kitchen we found everything to be top quality. As our stay was in the second week of October we especially enjoyed the underfloor heating. The countryside views and the garden added to the enjoyment of our holiday. We would thoroughly recommend Shippen Cottages for a quiet peaceful holiday.

I have always enjoyed my stays at Shippen cottage, the owners are friendly, attentive and helpful but never intrusive. Thanks to their excellent reading shelves I was able to comlete the quartet of Joanne Harris Chocolat series, The Strawberry Thief which was an added bonus to our late summer break.

  • "We found Shippen cottages to be ideally located in the East Devon countryside surrounded by good walks and plenty to do with the family; Lyme Regis is about twenty minutes away and Exeter half an hour or so to the west."

The towns of Honiton and Axminster are about ten minutes drive so whilst enjoying the peaceful location you are only a few minutes drive from the main south west arterial routes. The cottage itself is well equipped, deceptively spacious and was spotlessly clean. There is underfloor heating throughout which works a treat! Outside there is a good sized child friendly balcony overlooking a secure lawned garden. There are also meadows (where we saw deer) accessed through an adjacent gateway where the owner has thoughtfully mowed a pathway up to a picnic bench (and rope swing) at the top where you can take in the views. The cottages also sit on a bridleway which appears to have little use but is well marked and gives instant access to open countryside and beautiful views along the valley. The owner really has thought of everything, right down to the conveniently placed hose pipe near the front door that we used to rinse off muddy paws! This property ticked all our boxes and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending these cottages to others and will certainly be returning!… Thank you for a wonderful stay!
