  • "We had a lovely time at this property and enjoyed the scones, jam and drinks left for our arrtival."

The only problem I found was that if anyone was using the ater in the house whilst I was having a shower the water would go from scalding hot to freezing cold. Other that that it was a joy to stay in this beautiful house.

Lovey big garden is ideal for the dogs. Property is 5 minute drive into the moors so ideal if this is why you are visiting the area, loved Tavistock were lucky enough to be here for the goose fair. Plymouth marina and the mayflower museum definitely worth a visit. Pub and shops just a few mins walk from house.. only slight downside is late check in time of 5pm as most properties we have visited have been 3pm at latest but we were permitted to leave our bags earlier which we did appreciate. Definitely recommend this property.

  • "Hector's House, Yelverton, Devon, was the perfect location for us to get together as a family."

Great-granny and great-grandad met the new twins and created some more fantastic memories with their great-granddaughter! Son and daughter in-law were able to meet up with friends in Torbay and get together after a day-trip to the Plymouth aquarium. I can't remember the number of times that my wife said she truly felt at home! Wonderful family weekend, thank you Hector's House!

So much to do on Dartmoor and in the surrounding area. Yelverton has a good local inn and plenty of local shops. The house is very spacious and well equipped. We will be back next year.

  • "Hector's house was the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in."

We loved it. Everything was perfect. The location was extremely convenient for Dartmoor exploring and only five minutes walk away from useful shops and a lovely dog-friendly pub where we had dinner every night. The garden was large, securely fenced and beautiful, with sun trap areas for lazing and dining. We did not have a lot of sun but that did not matter - there were TV, books and games, even a piano! The house itself was beautifully furnished and very comfortable with lovely rooms and a warm, welcoming feel. The kitchen contained everything imaginable and the owners had thoughtfully provided cream tea goodies and a welcoming postcard. The whole holiday was perfect. We would 100% recommend Hector's house and would love to go back some day.

  • "We had a great stay at Hectors House."

We were very impressed with the amount and range of kitchen equipment and facilities. Location was perfect for exploring Dartmoor and Plymouth. During our stay to e weather was typically British, so we had few opportunities to enjoy the garden and appreciate the best Wisteria I’ve seen! On the down side, some of the single beds were a bit too soft and sofa cushions too but it didn’t affect our enjoyment of the stay.

  • "We were very pleased with our recent stay."

The house is large but also comfortable and well equipped. The garden is large with a large grassed area and mature shrubs that you can walk through so you get a different view from all aspects of the garden. Our Golden Retriever loved exploring and it is really very secure and our dog was safe without needing our constant attention outside. We would highly recommend Hectors House.

  • "Amazing property."

Everything you could possibly want. Big kitchen with all crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils. The range as others have mentioned is difficult to use due to faded controls. However a search online got us going. The two main bedrooms were huge, and plenty of room downstairs too. All rooms were well equipped and made the whole stay comfortable. The garden was lovely to walk around, and to relax in too. Plenty of information and communication from the owners when required.

  • "Hector's House (Troy) is simply the best holiday property we have ever stayed in."

There are all the kitchen utensils, knives, crockery and saucepans you could possibly want. The beds are comfy, the house lovely and warm, the garden large and secure. It was clear that at some point in the recent past it was a much loved family home. The road is very quiet indeed with almost no passing traffic and having a parade of shops a short walk away is just the icing on the cake. In a way I wish we hadn't stayed here as it has set an impossibly high bar for future holiday cottages. They will all inevitably be compared to this and come up short. Fashion victims won't like the patterned carpets and dark wood furniture, but we loved the very traditional décor. If you are going to oven cook use the nice new AEG, not the range as it is simpler and easier. We would have preferred summer duvets on the beds.

  • "We arrived on a wet evening to discover a lovely cosy house and a cream tea waiting."

There was plenty of room for all of us and we had a really lovely stay. The weather was not particularly kind during our stay but we had usable days and always a warm home to return to. There are several National Trust properties within easy reach and we enjoyed the walk around Burrator reservoir. The Plymouth aquarium is a good wet weather attraction but it was quite busy when we visited. We owe a big thank you to the owners and would very much like to visit again. The house is very well equipped and had plenty to keep us occupied. It was nice to explore the garden and to see so many native flowers and plants on the hedge bank. Our visit to Cotehele House, on the sunny Friday, was certainly a highlight. There is so much to see and do there. We also enjoyed Yelverton and Tavistock. The Yelverton shops and Drake's trail are an easy walk from the house and managed to cater for most of our needs. I would definitely recommend 'Hector's House.

  • "As soon as we walked into this lovely warm, comfortable house it immediately felt like home."

We have stayed in many of Sykes properties and this must be my favourite. Large comfortable rooms felt like your own home - with the many thoughtful touches that come with living in a house for a long time. The kitchen for me was a dream - brilliant, two ovens (please see note below), a proper full height fridge swallowed all my vegetables/salads and soups. An absolute delight to cook in with every utensil you could think of. Very close to the Yelverton shops, in particular The Game Larder, where they have every assortment of pies and quiches you can think of, and for those not inclined to cook, they offer takeaway roasts. A really enjoyable, comfortable stay enjoyed by all age groups. My Mum has mobility issues and with flat access when she visited it was perfect. Loved the lounge with three large sofas and I think 3 armchairs meant we could all sit together in preferred seating. Thank you too for the Welcome Pack - appreciatively enjoyed by all family members after a long journey. One point that flumouxed me was the Oven Knobs on the Range - the majority of the functions have been worn off over time or are only partially visible. It was only by frantic googling and downloading of the specific range instructions compared to blown up photographs of the knobs I managed to save a family roast dinner. Hopefully you will be able to find replacements on Ebay.

  • "Beautiful old house perfectly situated to explore the area."

On our arrival it was so lovely to walk into a warm house with a lovely cream tea waiting for us. Lovely touch and much appreciated. The house decor is dated, however this absolutely suits the property, and it has clearly been lived in by elderly people at some point with many assistance aids fitted around. We all agreed it is probably the most comfortable, well equipped, warm and spacious house that we have stayed in. The garden is beautiful; we would love to visit in the summer and enjoy the outdoor space more, which our dog certainly did. The owners have thought of everything, even down to providing a dog bed, towels and bowls. It’s just a short walk to the local parade of shops, which includes a local pub, and slightly further on to the cycle tracks and the moor. Great location to explore further afield, Plymouth, Plymbridge Woods, Tavistock and of course Dartmoor itself, with splendid walks around Burrator Reservoir and Sheep’s Tor. We would definitely recommend staying here and would love to revisit. Thank you.

The decor was very old world as was the furniture and bathroom fittings, but I must admit that we all felt very comfortable in the house. The rooms were very big and the beds were top class, furniture was highly polished and a couple of items could have been antique. Clenliness was very good, only one very minor item needed repair when we arrived that was the toilet roll holder. Equipment was second to none, everything that anyone could need and far in excess of expectations. Thanks for a very pleasent stay.
