  • "Not off to a great start."

The dishwasher was full of very smelly water in the bottom, apparently no one had checked that a cycle was complete. The washing machine had had the water turned off to it, so took a while to work this out & be able to use it. No airer to dry clothes on, & the drier didn't work on washing machine. Quite a few of the light bulbs weren't working & although there were details about where bulbs were kept, I don't expect to be a maintenance person the moment I arrive on holiday! The shower in the bedroom doesn't drain away properly so difficult to clean. Certainly these issues presented us with a disappointing view of our accommodation. Having paid what I feel was a lot of money for one week this property is a little jaded & tired & could do with some maintenance to justify the price

..so do we! The owners are pleasant and very helpful. Great facilities, the swimming pool is a real bonus. It makes a lovely change to cook on a gas hob. The whole package provides for a happy, enjoyable and relaxed stay. This was our second visit and very likely not out last.

  • "We really enjoyed staying in Hay Barn."

The barn was homely and cosy, the rooms were very spacious and lovely and warm. We had great fun in the games room but sadly ran out of time to use the pool. Brian was very quick to sort a couple of minor issues and was very friendly and helpful. Beautiful area, stunning scenery with lots to do. Didn’t get it all done so we will definitely be back.

Pool was excellent, used it daily. Games room was a great added bonus we took advantage of too. Location great for exploring the local beaches and towns. Welcome treats appreciated thank you! We left a couple of items behind in error and owners really kindly posted them back to us quickly. Would recommend!

The Hay Barn was well placed for visiting Salcombe, Dartmouth & kingsbridge and beyond. The swimming pool looked amazing although we didn’t take advantage- we certainly will next time. Overall a very enjoyable stay. Certainly would recommend.

  • "We had a lovely stay at the Hay barn and we thought it was a beautiful property."

Just a couple of things I’d like to mention. On arrival we took our dogs for a walk around to familiarise ourselves and the neighbours cocker spaniel decided to run out and attack my dog. My dog was on a lead and this was totally unprovoked so I think the owners either need to put a gate up or tie their dog up if it’s going to greet guests and their dogs in this manner. Secondly the bin stall which is right outside the Hay Barn and opposite the pool was a bit of an eye sore and could do with being organised a bit better as quite off putting on arrival. Thirdly the property advertises a king and queen room. The twin beds put together to make the queen do not fit together properly and I kept falling through the middle and couldn’t cuddle up to my partner. Just a suggestion but I think the electric car charger also needs to be PIN code protected or it needs a sign with instructions as to who can use to to avoid any confusion. Other than these few minor issues we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and this area of Devon is really picturesque. The garden wasn’t overlooked and there was lots of birds and nature around us. The house was well stocked with cooking utensils for those who wish to cook.

  • "We had a fabulous week at Hay Barn."

The owners were very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool was amazing and was just across the way from the property. The grandchildren loved the play area and the trampoline. The property was warm and cosy and both bedrooms having en suits was a plus. The location was great for exploring the area and we were blessed with amazing weather (in October) and enjoyed some amazing beach days. For a holiday with children this is a great place and we would highly recommend it.

  • "No complaints and no problems."

Swimming pool was a bonus and much enjoyed, as was the underfloor heating in the cottage. The beds are very comfortable so we slept well. Situated in a good peaceful location with villages and small towns worth visiting for retired/older people. (We are not beach lovers.) We enjoyed our week’s stay.

  • "V nice cottage - well appointed if a little dated."

Furniture in lounge area def required updating. For us The one draw back is whilst being ‘dog friendly’ in the sense dogs allowed, the garden area was unsecured and with other cottages and a working farm (and animals!) in very close proximity it was frustrating not to be able to let our dogs out off the lead …

There are facilities on site for children to enjoy including the swimming pool, which was larger than expected. The local area offers many lovely beaches, small villages and towns to visit all within half and hours drive.

The furniture was nice and comfortable as were the beds. The owners are nearby if needed. The WiFi was poor connection but was sorted soon after. Our grandchildren loved the indoor pool, games room and the trampoline and made friends with other children staying in the other properties. Would definitely recommend and would love to return.

The Pool and Games rooms were excellent additions. My son and sister in law visited us and she summed the 'Hay Barn' perfectly "It felt more like a home then a holiday let" Very peaceful and quiet and the local inn "The Old Inn" in Halwell (a mile away) had fantastic food with a wide choice on the Menu and a friendly atmosphere. Dogs very welcome at the pub and great effort has been made to make it Co-Vid safe

  • "The pool was a great hit with our 9 year old grandson."

We had a 2 hour rotating slot every day for our cottage, which wasn't always convenient but was an absolutely brilliant and very fair way of managing this present situation. We structured our day around the slots! The Hay Barn was very comfortable and nicely situated for all the play facilities. We would be very happy to return here, and our hosts were very helpful.

  • "Was a good holiday generally, owner was friendly and pool was big and kids loved it."

The only point to make in the interests of a balanced review would be that there were quite a few small things that whilst not really having any impact on the holiday were a bit niggly given what we’d paid: Garden was not self contained as advertised so we couldn’t just let our dog out without supervision. This was a pain tbh. No toilet extractor fans worked. One toilet was very hard to flush. Downstairs toilet door very hard to open as it had swelled and scraped on the floor. Wifi was rubbish tbh, no bandwidth. Pool floor had a couple of tiles missing and my daughter cut her foot (not badly) on one of the edges. Shrubs around house all overgrown and so when it rained it was hard not to get wet whilst trying to walk past them. Other than that all good, but the place would definitely benefit from some TLC.

Thank you for your feedback. We're delighted that you had such a good holiday, and happy to confirm that we've completed work on the points raised. We do not say that the garden is enclosed - the wall is not high enough to act as a boundary. Property Owner
