"Need to provide full list of what’s in the kitchen."
No chopping board is a bit extreme for self catering. Need to provide more cleaning things and hand soap.
The signage on site is poor and doesn’t differentiate between wheelchair accessible routes and routes with stairs. Need to add signage for both with wheelchair and stair symbols.
Friendly and helpful reception staff but they weren’t able to point out wheelchair accessible routes on the walking map of the grounds. That map needs to be updated with that information.
The wheelchair roundabout in the children’s playground doesn’t work properly.

"Harcombe House number 11 bungalow
The nursing home bed was definitely a big plus for my daughter."
We had to bring covers for the sides as we were concerned that my daughter might get her feet stuck through the gap. The wet room was good and the shower chair was very useful. There were two bathrooms, yet only one toilet!! The listing clearly says 'washing machine'. We took that to mean a washing machine was present in the property. There isn't. Our daughter's condition is such that she produces a lot of washing meaning we spent about £40 in the Laundrette. The Laundrette on site is not level access.
The swimming pool is lovely The Café on site produces good food. The area and grounds are stunning and are definitely worth a walk around.
The part of Britain is stunning but expensive. Pennywell farm cost us nearly £100 to literally not feed the animals!! The highlight for us was a boat trip in Torbay. We took a totally accessible trip with 'Wet Wheels' to see seals, marine birds and Dolphins, what a sight and honour to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
All in all good accommodation, very clean, plenty of facilities an enjoyable holiday.

"Had a lovely holiday ."
Beautiful surroundings. great accommodation better than home would like to live there. Only one thing in the wet room a drop down seat would have been better as the shower chair did not work for me and a grab rail would be very helpful to. I did mention this to reception.

"Overall: We had a really lovely stay, there would be a few things I would like to see improved and give some more detail."
and The carpet was hard to keep clean, the front door got stuck, and it was hard to get around with a wheelchair (it was possible but needed help). Also, all the light switches and heating control were too high. Wet room/Bathroom: A wheelchair user cannot reach the wet room light as it is too high and needs replacing. The brakes on the shower chair didn't work. Also, there was no emergency cord, and due to all doors being fire doors, shouting out for help and being heard was difficult and therefore unsafe. The only way to reach the wet room sink was by sitting on the toilet and reaching over. There were handrails around the toilet but none around the shower. You would only need to walk a few steps to access the bathroom. Living space: The sofas were low and made transfers difficult, I was able to stay in my wheelchair and sit at the dining table. It was easy to move the furniture to make it easier to move around the room. Kitchen: The kitchen is not wheelchair accessible as it is too small and not adapted. Bedrooms: The sidebars of the profiling bed make transfers hard, we took a banana board which solved the problem. Also, there was no lamp in this room (which we solved by moving one from another room) There is only 1 accessible bedroom, if you were an ambulatory wheelchair user the other bedrooms would be suitable. Outside: There is no ramp from the back door to the patio but there is a path which goes all the way around the property. The parking bay has loose stones which was fine with my powerchair but could be a struggle for a manual user. We were given maps for some local walks but couldn't find a wheelchair-accessible route, which was a shame. If a route is available, can it be added to the welcome pack? There would have been a few nights when we would have liked the onsite bar to provide food at night.
Thank you very much for your feedback we much appreciate this.
On Sykes description the bungalow is down as accessible, with pictures provided. As the bungalows were built in the early 70s they have not been updated to disabled friendly for someone in a wheelchair, we appreciate the feedback and will have a look into this, if you decide to book again then please let us know and we can see how we can assist you on your stay.

"The sink in the wet room is to small."
It should be large enough for a wheelchair user to fit underneath. There should be a ramp from the patio door to the patio area not a step. The electric bed should be of hospital spec as it does not lift up far enough to allow the carer ease of dressing. Also the side bars of the bed interfere with the ease of patient transfer. The flooring in the hall and lounge should be a hard material, not carpet. This would allow ease of wheelchair mobility. It would also enable ease of cleaning, especially in wet weather.

"We had a very good week staying in bungalow 11."
The place was spotlessly clean and we had all the comforts of home provided. We used the cafe, restaurant and the swimming pool which were all wheelchair accessible. The whole place was very quiet and restful. I went for some lovely walks around the estate in woods and fields, using the map provided. There are three suggestions for improvements. The first is that my husband was unable to exit the hospital bed on the first morning. This was because the mattress was lower than the dropped wooden bed rail, meaning he couldn't put his feet to the floor without pain. I rectified this by putting one of the twin room mattresses on top of the one provided on the hospital bed. The second was that the chairs in the lounge were too low for a wheelchair user. Again this was solved by stacking two sofa cushions on top of each other which made access much easier. Lastly the shower chair provided in the wet room was extremely low for a man and it was difficult to push due to the rusted up wheels. Once we got used to the adjustments that I had to make, we had a good holiday.

"For a disabled person bungalow 11 is perfect in every way 10 out of 10 brilliant."
Note.. my only concern would be the parking bay are loose stones could be a difficult for wheelchair users and some on crutches because of the slope that runs down.
This is the only thing about Harcombe house.

"The bungalow was comfortable, but not as well equipped as many properties."
No facilities to brew coffee at all, and as we don't drink tea....! We bought a cafetiere.
Fortunately there was only myself and my disabled wife, but had the property been fully occupied by a family of 5, the cutlery, crockery and kitchen equipment would have been barely sufficient. There is an accessible full wet room and a second bathroom, but the only toilet is in the wet room. On our final evening we had an small invasion of ants and flying ants, but they were swiftly dealt with when reported to Reception.

"The stay was wonderful, the bungalows, grounds and facilities were incredible and the staff team was helpful."
This is a relaxing, mindful place to stay with easy routes to visit Devon. Bungalow 11 is fully accessible but only the double bedroom has space for a wheelchair or mobility aid, the twin room has very little room to move. Bear this in mind if booking as a family. The kitchen and lounge space is spotlessly clean and easy to manoeuvre around on a mobility scooter. The hoist in the pool is simple to use and the water is warm enough for a disabled person to relax in. All in all, this is a perfect place to stay as a family or with elderly parents as I did. Plus, your stay helps support The Firefighters Charity, win win.

"We booked this property as it said it was easy access."
From looking at the photos, it seemed ideal. It may have been ideal for people in wheelchairs but it was not ideal for those with some mobility. It could have been so much better if in the wet room there were some simple handrails to hold on to around the shower. In the bedroom was a single hospital bed that moved to help you out. It also had bars to keep you from falling out. We had to remove the bars so my Mum (84) could physically get onto the bed. Because the bed had a plastic cover over the mattress, she became too hot, was unable to move herself as the bed was a single and not wide enough, and by the end of the week had bedsores and very tired from lack of sleep. It was a real shame that a wider bed was not available for us to book. In her bedroom, the main light could only be switched on /off by the door which meant she had to try and get into bed, with the aforementioned troubles in the dark. Please put a pull light switch near the bed. It would have been do much better if plug sockets were higher in that room and that there was a bedside table available. We ended up using one of the chairs from the dining table. Aside from the problems for someone with mobility issues, we did find some of the equipment in the kitchen rather restrictive. For a property that could accommodate 6, the saucepans needed to be much bigger and there were literally 6 plates and 6 dishes. It would have been better if we knew to bring even the smallest things such as salt and pepper. On the notes, we were asked to leave the property in the way we had found it. No problem with that request. The property was immaculate when we arrived, but if you make those expectations, please provide us with more cleaning equipment than one J-cloth and washing up liquid rather than us having to go out and buy them OR let us know that we need to bring these things. This all sounds quite negative and it is not meant to be. It was just a few things which if you were able to book alternatives could have made the whole experience much easier and nicer. The place was modern and comfortable. Mum would have preferred a more suitable chair in the living room, but she was able to sit on the armchair without too much effort to get herself out of it. We didn't try the cafe or the swimming pool, again let people know it is closed Friday mornings for maintenance. We would book the property again, if those issues for Mum could be addressed. I appreciated the phone call a few days before arriving which gave us some extra info, but please offer my suggestions and let people know exactly what to expect. I do hope you find these points constructive and are able to implement my suggestions.
