"Stayed in this property 2 years ago & it was great & reason why we booked again but I should have read the more recent reviews!"
Not sure what has happened in 2 years since but I have lodged a complaint with Sykes regarding general cleanliness of the property, it was simply unclean & dirty in places with cobwebs & spiders everywhere & in terms of cleanliness is the worst self catering accomodation I have stayed in for 30 years (I have never complained previously & have booked with Coast & Country in the past with no problems), full list of issues sent to Sykes with photos. There is no vacuum cleaner in the property & it shows. Front door handle was broken as it couldn't be opened from inside, this was fixed by Sykes on 3rd day of holiday, 2 days after reported. If I had not paid upfront I would have left the property once I realised how unclean & dirty it was, I contacted Coast & Country / Sykes the first morning we were there & they promised to send a cleaner in to sort, this didn't happen so 2 days later I called them again, they sent in the 3rd party cleaning company who advised there was no issue & the property was satisfactory, all they seemed to do was remove some cobwebs when I expected a full deep clean of the property! I refused to accept this and requested a member of staff from the Coast & Country Dartmouth office visit which they did on the morning of our last day, they agreed the property was not clean & unacceptable advising they would discuss & show their photos taken to 3rd party cleaners who they had a meeting with later that day. I would recommend C&C / Sykes find new cleaners as their current cleaners standards do not match mine, the minimum I expect of any accomodation on arrival is that it is clean & surfaces / toilets recently disinfected. I have requested compensation from C&C / Sykes for a holiday that was spoilt by this ongoing situation but have yet to hear from them.

"There is a draft over the front door front door handle doesn't open from inside Hardly any internet which is challenging sofa has a smell of pets which needs to be steamed out toilets don't flush very well every property is unique and normally comes with some problems."
I was surprised that this high standard accommodation wasn't completed sorted.

"The reason why we didnt give it top marks on the cleanliness was because there was so many cobwebs on the ceiling and along the kick board in the kitchen."
-
"Great property, only a couple of very minor niggles (a wonky Roman blind and a rather draughty front door)."
-
"Outside handrail on decking by steps insecure."
No shelf in either of the bathrooms for toiletries and the toilet brushes need replacing. There was a slight damp smell in the shower room which may have come from the brush. The handrail on the decking needed a good brush down it was covered with cobwebs etc.

"We loved the cottage."
I am extremely fussy when it comes to cleanliness but the cottage was generally lovely and clean. My only criticism would be that the main bathroom smelt very mouldy and musty and neither of the toilets flushed well. The main bathroom looks like it could do with a deep clean. Smelt of urine. Lots of orangey brown stains on the grouting. Probably doesn't help with the smell in there. Was such a shame about that as otherwise I would have been happy to give 5 stars.

"The cottage was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable with everything we could possibly need for our stay."
We will definitely return!
-
"The height of the wall cupboards in the kitchen were such that when the doors were open the corners of the doors could take your eye out!"
There is a recommended height to the underside ie 1350/1400mm above floor level. Why was this design guidance not followed?

"Great cottage, well equipped."
Tranquil site as always (many years at Hillfield, but first at No 4). Nothing to criticise.
-
"Excellent accommodation and good location."
Lots to see and do in the area.

"A couple of very minor faults."
One half of the electric toaster doesn’t work. One dining chair has a loose leg and the courtesy street lights on the wall of the access path from the car park do not work. Apart from these minor faults which I’m sure will be corrected soon the property was wonderful and I would highly recommend .

"Although only booked for a week we enjoyed our stay at 4 keepers cottage and would recommend it to anyone who wants a base to see the area quiet and restful a little stressful driving the lanes but excellent."
-
"Fantastic! 5 star +."
Just a couple of small points, the quilt was very hot (weather was good!), and a couple more cushions would make it 6 star!

"We had a great week at the Hillfield Village, I think we didn't realise it was part of a small holiday resort when we booked however it has been so well designed that you felt you were just part of a small area within it."
The cottage was well designed and finished with everything you need for a holiday. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is in a beautiful part of South Devon, very quiet, but only 5 miles from Dartmouth and a couple of miles from supermarkets and a Park/Ride car park. Be sure to visit the Free Rabbit Farm, there are signs on the lane going down to Hillfield Village, which is not a farm at all but 43 acres of wonderful woodland garden, it's just a 2 mile walk away though country lanes.

"Really good location as a base for Devon day trips."
Very modern cottage which was great with a young baby.

"Although there were instructions for every appliance in the property, there was nothing regarding the supply of hot water."
Following a freezing cold shower on the first night, we found an override switch in the cupboard which fortunately was for hot water. However, after several more cold showers we started pressing this button about 20 mins before showering to ensure we had enough hot water.
Thank you for your review of 4 Keeper’s Cottage. Following your comments the hot water system has been investigated and found to be working as it should. Unfortunately the Keepers Cottages have a small hot water tank that once drained (by having a long shower or bath) do take a while to refill, even after pressing the boost button. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused your party. We hope that despite these issues you enjoyed your time at Hillfield Village. Property Owner

"We arrived a little late about 5."
45 due to traffic problems, we found it extremely difficult to retrieve key from box outside information desk, the padlock did not function very well. The only person on site was Maintenance Person who was most helpful. We never found anyone in the information office until the morning we left. Wi Fi was advertised when we booked. However BT modem was not switched on, we eventually located it in cupboard. Surely this should have been checked before our arrival. Most TV functions did not work at all, rendering playback, replay, Netflix, BBC i player and ITV hub inoperable. Mobile phone service poor. As it was a wet and stormy week it would have been good to be able to access at least one of these. There was only one TV. Apart from this the cottage was as we stayed in Hillfield many times in the past spotlessly clean and well furnished. We were disappointed to discover that other identical properties were let for over £160 per week less than ours.

Totnes 12 miles.
Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth.
