  • "Unfortunately on arrival we where greeted by dog poo on the balcony and no cot or stair gate, ordered through Sykes at least 1 week prior to staying!"

This property could be a little gold mine but it needs a complete refurbishment...we had to clean stuff off the wall, there is decking dumped at the back of the building, the bath is cracked and badly fitting front panel which could cause an injury and the draws in the bedrooms where unusable because you couldn't open the draws. There is still no information on how to work the heating or hot water, no contact number if there is a problem and no leaflets for people to browse. Unfortunately when we stayed the electric kept tripping out! By then we had been to reception and managed to get hold of Tom who was looking after the place, he did offer us another place but we had already unpacked and with 6 lots of luggage etc to move we stayed where we where so where offered a meal free of charge. The meal was superb and Tom was very helpful supplying the gate and cot for us, Sykes hadn't informed him of our request! All in all this place has potential, at the moment it's a bit like faulty towers, needs work and updating, information on how heating and water works, a full check of cutlery, plates etc and electrics the pat test on toaster are out of date by 3 months, and the fake grass is black with mould.

  • "Tom looked after us well."

Sadly the previous guests had broken a couple of bed frames so guests had to sleep on a mattress on the floor. However Tom made sure we were comfortable and bought us a meal at the local pub, which was delicious. Thank you Tom for making our stay a lovely one. The Stockers.

A welcome / instruction pack would be useful.

  • "None of the bedroom doors fit their frames and they dont have door handles either."

The bathroom door hadca handle but could nit close because it was also too big for the frame. There was no hot water or heating. No manuals to enable me to turn hot water on. The house was six person but there were not enough cups or glasses. There were lots of lamps but no sockets for many to be plugged in and used. It was all very bizarre. I have no idea how the owners think no door handles are acceptable. Our documents said check in was from 3pm but the cleaners thought it was 4pm and had only just arrived as we did. This is not acceptable.

We are sorry to hear about this, we would have liked to have helped you during the stay, but unfortunately we were not contacted, and neither was Sykes, so we had no opportunity to assist you or recitify any issues raised. The Wifi was available during the stay. Property Owner

About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
