  • "This is a really nice holiday property."

It's ideal for the larger family or for those who have members of their party that have limited mobility, due to the downstairs toilet and shower room, as well as 2 bedrooms on each floor. The property was generally clean and fairly well maintained. The size is suitable for up to 8 people and is very comfortable inside (apart from the issues outlined below). Due to the time of year, we had the heating on, however it was nice and warm all week. The bathrooms and kitchen were also perfect for our needs. The location is good, with most places we wanted to travel to being 30 to 60 minutes away. Our stay was only tarred by 2 issues. On the night of arrival, there was an infestation of flies in the upstairs, originating from the bathroom window skylight window. On calling the emergency contact number (daughter) and having sent videos of it, it was passed onto her mother (owner?) who called us back telling us that her daughter was in "fits of giggles" over it. This really angered us as it was a serious health concern and we were even contemplating having to go stay in a hotel due to the risk to health, however her daughter had clearly found it humorous! I spent 2 hours after getting there having to vacuum up over 200 live flies from the ceiling, dead ones on the floor, etc. I stopped counting them at 200. We could only presume that something had died on the roof. Despite advising that site services would be called in the morning, we never had anyone visit or any further calls. We were just told to get some fly spray! I ended up cleaning the lock mechanism of the window out in the morning, where the remaining couple of dozen flies remained. On the first morning, the bed slats all then fell out on the left side of the king sized bed as I was getting up, resulting in me twinging my back (painful all day). It appears to possibly be a new bed and there was no brace across the middle to keep the sides from moving apart. It needs either a wooden brace or cable to keep the sides from moving. Despite my best efforts, it happened 2 further times during the week. My wife ended up having to sleep in one of the single beds in one of the empty rooms because of this and the otherwise uncomfortable and thin mattress. I could easily have given a lower review, but feel that the property will be much better for other visitors if these issues are resolved and, hopefully, no further fly infestations occur. There were apparently some flies present 2 days earlier, when the mother visited the property and left the skylight open, so it clearly should have been investigated then. We also didn't buy the response that "everyone has problems with flies down here at this time of year". Nobody else on site that we spoke to had ever heard of this happening and were shocked by the response that we had. We also visit Cornwall every October to holiday and see relatives, as we've done for 25 years or so, and have never experienced this.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we are happy you found our property really nice and spacious; we are sorry to hear you experienced a couple of issues. As with houses close to open spaces and fields it is quite common in the autumn for these flies to congregate on the outside of buildings, especially on sunny, south-east facing, walls and windows, but also quite transitionary. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We have found that one of the slats from the bed was missing, and we would have gladly replaced this for you had you reported this during your stay. As mentioned to you earlier, we were only 15 minutes away. The bed has a metal frame, and each side of the slats are independent on a central metal frame has since been replaced. The other beds in the property are fairly new with 10" mattresses, and in good condition. Guest have reported how comfortable they were during their stay. Property Owner
