  • "This is a very well located lodge on a good site offering additional facilities which can sometimes be hard to come by, such as gym/swimming pool, restuarant/bar, shop and games room."

The lodge itself is a fair size and well laid out, with a very nice feature of a first floor balcony which gets a good bit of sunshine throughout the day. Three double bedrooms, so good for larger parties or if you have guests. The kitchen has all the things you need for cooking, washing and cleaning. The owners are very friendly and we received a useful whatsapp message from them before the stay with the immediate bits of information we needed. The only negative we have, and I'm guessing this applies to all of these lodges as I think it's a building issue rather than a maintenance issue is that the air in the ground floor space is quite damp and you are greeted when you first enter with a fusty smell. This then transferred itself to our clothes over the course of the stay. Clearly this single issue wasn't a massive problem for us though. We liked the lodge and the site that much that we have booked again for next April!

Hi Paul Thankyou for your positive feedback and enjoyed your stay at running waters. As you say a great position on site close to the amenities. And great for visiting Devon and Cornwall. Sorry you thought downstairs was damp. The downstairs is all dry lined so not damp but I think as it's set in the woodland area the mornings this time of year sometimes are wet and cold and the lodges are colder downstairs because of this but soon warm up with the heating on. so glad you enjoyed and look forward to welcoming you back next April kind regards julie and steve Property Owner

22 Valley Lodge being close to the centre of the site was a definite advantage as the site itself is situated in a valley and therefore has some steep inclines. The property itself was extremely well-equipped and we found we had everything we needed to make our stay a memorable one.

The holiday village itself is 10 minutes drive to the Devon/Cornwall border. The property itself was clean and comfortable. We did encounter an issue however after messaging the owner, she put our minds at ease and assured us that the problem would be fixed. The property has everything you need for a great stay. Will definitely go back.

Hi Sarah Thank you for your positive feedback. As you say the lodge is in a great location for visiting Devon and Cornwall. And also the site location close to the facilities and overlooking the pond. We have sorted the issue that you brought to our attention so thank you for that. • "The setting and location was lovely."

The lodge could do with some investment as looking a little tired. Understand this is a holiday lodge but the table and chairs and settees and double bed were not the best. It was perfectly functionable though and did not ruin our stay. The lodge did smell damp downstairs, I believe this is to do with the area as mornings outside would be damp but if heating not turned on even for an hour to dry your bath towels etc then downstairs did not really warm through enough to dry out and I believe this also added to the dampness. Once turned on the space dried out and the smell disappeared. Might be worth noting this to potential guest to help combat this issue in the future. There was black mould on some of the windows and back of the curtains (although clean) you could see where this had been an issue. The decking outside also needed some maintenance. We had a wonderful stay and none of this effected our holiday but I think this might be helpful to future guests and the owner if not stayed at the property recently. The space and size of the property was ideal for us.

hi Collette glad you enjoyed your stay at running waters. sorry you felt downstairs was damp. the downstairs is always colder as the sun shines through on the first floor all day. sorry you found the table old fashioned .this is a sturdy table and unfortunately we have found that some people do not treat the holiday lodge with respect and put hot pans on the table, hence the notes. we had new flooring in the hallway and this was ruined within the first week.. we love the lodge and check it weekly. as for the decking bbqs are not allowed but a guest had gone and burnt the decking boards so these had to be replaced . Thank you for your feedback regards julie and steve Property Owner

No complaints. We had horrendous weather and terrible storms. Added the flood barrier to the gate weather was so bad. Could barely see the road driving on, never mind the stunning views. Also had tree blown down destroying the tennis court so unfortunately spent most of the time in the Cottage or at the pool. The site itself has lots of quite steep hills so not so easy to walk the dog especially with kids and no enclosed garden so lead walking. However, great proximity to a local pub, big tesco and feul station whilst still feeling tucked away from the world.

The site was easily found on our journey and was situated in a beautiful part of the countryside. If there are any constructive criticisms it's with the site and not the lodge owner. The roads were a bit under maintained and the signage to each lodge was lacking. It did take 2 trips around to find it in the end. I think that if the site were to expand facilities to include the option of holiday goers to purchase wifi in the lodges at their own expense it would make a difference as signal was spotty. Overall very happy with the booking and would definitely return.

Hi Jamie ,Thank you for your Thank you for your Positive feedback and glad you enjoyed running waters and will hopefully return. The roads around the site should be dealt with in October. The Wi-Fi is not sustainable in the lodges as it's only a mobile signal for Wi-Fi and because of the area as you know the signal is poor . Site staff were friendly. Tv aerial either faulty or needing better aerial, as tv required was required when raining and signal was playing up, connector seemed loose. Beds were comfy, bedding was clean. Trees could do with lopping back a bit to protect lodges. Games room was good fun. Pool times were awkward, and no availability outside when rain forecast, even though it didn’t rain. Also, pool shut early outside when plenty of sun and light would have allowed a swim. Never got to use outside pool due to restrictions. Inner pool said to book online but we were allowed in as it was almost empty and allowed to stay over booked time slot. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends. Welcome pack of drinks and biscuits was a nice touch! Restaurant made good food and was dog friendly which was nice to see. Meals were large! Internet was weak, being in a valley, I guess. Thanks for a nice holiday!! Went to Eden project, Rock, Fowey, Padstow, Jamaica inn, camel train, Polperro, Poole, Tavistock ( Friday market). All great places. A visitors' book would be a nice add on to the lodge.

Well maintained, clean, well equipped (including a washing machine) and two bathrooms being a godsend for a family of 5! Very dog ready / friendly property and the site feels very dog friendly itself (well behaved) with the bar/restaurant accepting dogs as well making the whole family welcome. Couldn’t have asked for more for a family friendly stay. This home includes pool access - we realised that some don’t so this is another big positive for this property above some others. We (the kids downstairs) did struggle a little with 3/4G connection but managed (I was happy not to be in touch regularly for a few days!). All our contact with Julie was really friendly and helpful - any questions quickly answered and really pleasant and positive. Couldn’t recommend more highly other than the fear this review may make it more difficult for us to book again!

Hi Adam .Thank you for your positive feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay at Running Waters. It is such a lovely area and classed as AONB The 4g is getting better but Wi-Fi in the lodges will never be sustainable unless fibre is installed on site. And that will never happen. Once we were in we found the house to be very clean apart from a stain on the hall floor. The kitchen was amply stocked with crockery etc although a better tin opener would be good. The lounge had plenty of comfy seating with a large dining table that accommodated us easily. Luckily the balcony faced the sun for most of the day and it was lovely to relax there with a glass of wine. The TV remote didn't work properly but it wasn't a huge problem. We did find that the downstairs bedroom area was very cold and we had to put the heating on late afternoon to warm it up. The radiator in the 2nd bedroom needs bleeding I think. Food at pub was good too. Pool area clean. Sadly the games room was shut due to Covid, and most of the local attractions also (spent a fair few hours following brown tourist signs to find them not open). The accommodation itself was tired and could have done with a deep clean (found crumbs on the dining chairs), and the main bathroom smelt really damp. The beds were surprisingly comfy, despite feeling the springs (could have done with a mattress topper, but miles better than a sweaty, saggy foam mattress), but the bottom of the beds were a bit grubby. We do normally go for no-pets allowed accommodation for this reason. Would have been nice to have WiFi as phone signal really poor.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are very surprised to hear your comments on the cleaning of the lodge. You only have to look at the previous feedback and We have excellent reports on how clean the lodge is. Also when we text you to see if everything thing was ok. You replied lovely thanks. We are still in talks with the mobile Wi-Fi company trying to get a sustainable speed. Because of the location this is proving very difficult and often the 4g signal is better than the mobile wifi. Although it looks small from the outside it's deceptively large inside. A good sized living and dining room, a well equipped kitchen and 3 very good sized bedrooms make this a very comfortable place to stay. We thought the inclusion of a vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board, travel cot and sun lounger makes the house feel homely. The facilities on site were excellent, the park is clean and tidy and everyone we met were friendly, and is ideally situated with Plymouth 20 mins away and tavistock and Launceston close by too. I think the only thing that would have made our holiday perfect is if we had WiFi in the cottage. This would be especially helpful for booking attractions online as the 4G signal was poor at best.

Thank you for your positive feedback . We are talks at the moment with the Broadband supplier but because of the rural location the broadband is not sustainable and speed is so slow. About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
