  • "Although overall the property is very nice, there are some small issues which could make the overall experience an even better one."

i read some previous reviews and people had made a comment of the stiffness of one of the doors to the balcony area, this should have been fixed after the first remark about it.the right window in the kitchen area could not be opened for some reason. this need to be fixed and not a label saying not working.the wooden table on the balcony needs to be cleaned it looked a mess, the glass shelter panel by the back door needs cleaning, and all the hedges need to be cut back,if your not one of the lucky ones to have a parking spot then its a gruesome walk for some people up that hill to the overflow parking. don't get me wrong the lodge is really nice.but it could have been awesome if the little things were taken care of.

  • "Very clean, warm, comfortable holiday home, beautifully decorated with everything that you require and more."

Welcome gifts were a nice touch. Comfortable beds. Good WIFI connection, and Netflix was a great bonus. Breakfast on the balcony was so nice and peaceful. Great place to return to after your day out. The hosts Paul and Rita are very helpful. Good stocked shop on site and the pub serves great food. Book early for the Sunday lunch.

  • "This is not the first time we have stayed here and won't be the last."

An ideal location for accessing tourist attractions on both the north and south coast without too much travelling or equally ideal for relaxing without going out. The accommodation is of a high standard and feels like home from home.

  • "A little gem of a place!"

This was the perfect spot to enjoy Devon and Cornwall although we mostly stuck to Cornwall. Our hosts, Paul and Rita couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome....from offering early arrival, to giving us lots of information before we arrived, to the generous welcome gifts left out for us. Their kindness and help was much appreciated. The lodge is beautifully decorated with a beachy vibe, the beds are comfortable and we had everything we needed to make us feel at home, including a basket of blankets for the rare occasions when the temperature dipped and we wanted to stay outside. I enjoyed coffee in the sun on the balcony every morning and even had a little squirrel come and say hello one day!! I would urge future renters to read all the information you are given for this property so that the quirks (including the steps on arrival, low water pressure etc) are not an issue and you can enjoy this beautiful haven in the trees! We would definitely rent this property again if we were visiting this area in the future. Thank you once again to Paul and Rita

  • "The only potential problem was the number of steps up to the property which was not made clear in the briefing, which could have been a problem for some users, as well as the steepness of the site."

Being older we noticed it whereas many potential users would not have found it to be an issue. Otherwise well equipped and every comfort considered.

Hi there, we do mention that access to the entrance is up 14 steps in the listing for this purpose. Thank you for your booking and we hope you may wish to stay again. The Cornish Cottage Holidays Team. Property Owner

  • "We were extremely impressed with all aspects of the property, it was very clean and so well equipped, really felt like home from home."

The welcome pack of milk, juice ,fizz etc etc was so unexpected but very much appreciated, thank you. We visited the site bar on several occasions and found the staff so friendly and the food very good and reasonably priced, all in all we would definitely be back and hopefully staying in number 56.

  • "We were a little disappointed that the park facilities were not available including the pool, which may have been an oversight on our part when we booked, however, we were also unable to pay for this separately which left us with an upset 3 year old."

The house was beautifully located and had everything we needed and the host Paul and Rita were fantastic at keeping us updated and also allowed for an earlier check in which was really helpful. The local pub is lovely, however, if you want to get a table for dinner or takeaway you need to book quite early as it gets very busy once guests arrive. Overall we had a perfectly wonderful holiday and will return, however we may return to another lodge in order to use the facilities, especially as we have children and the on site amenities were not available to us. A perfect holiday location, near lots of attractions, beaches and shops, with some great recommendations from the hosts for places to visit.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Valley Lodge 56. It does state on the summary section of the listing for the property: "Regretfully the on-site leisure facilities and swimming pools are not available to guests at this property." Property Owner

Beautifully furnished throughout with everything there you could want. The Honicombe Arms pub is a 150 yard walk away. Serves good food and the beer is reasonably priced. Lots to see and do not far away. The local railway station to Plymouth is a couple of miles away and parking there is free.

About the location

CALLINGTON

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
