"Wonderful location with unbelievable views especially the sunsets."
Plenty of space to move around especially as I have mobility issues.
I am delighted you enjoyed your week, the sunsets can be amazing. Facing west in the evening is a real bonus for the cottage, the views over Burgh Island are great. Please come and stay with us again. All best Chris Property Owner

"We were disappointed on arrival that beds were unmade and cleaning not done."
This is not what you want to find after a long drive from Lincolnshire. The office did sort it eventually. Having got over that we went on to have a lovely holiday. The position is wonderful. The views are superb and Hope is just a short walk away. We greatly enjoyed our coast path walks. We will return despite the bad start.
Dear Glenys I'm really sorry to hear the beds weren't made and the cottage wasn't ready for you. That is inexcusable and Coast & Country are fully to blame. They are paid well to sort this out. I will as the Landlord raise this with them. My sincere applies, please do return and try us again. I'm pleased you had a good holiday All best regards chris Chris Freer-Smith 07850 487 146 Property Owner

"It was quite hard to find."
The seagulls helped, but we went past the first time. The parking was limited. The views were excellent, seeing the beach and sea. It was an easy path down to the beach.
Delighted you enjoyed the Cottage and Hope Cove. Now you know where it is hopefully you will return. All best Chris Property Owner

"We’ve been to the property for the last few years, we love it because you have the view over the cove and easy walking distance of The Cove pub, one of our favourites."
But this time as soon as I opened the door I could tell it was grubby, it smelt damp and was a bit doggy in smell and there was dog hair on sofas. This probably wouldn’t bother those taking pets but both my husband and I are allergic. I would say however that as soon as we told Sykes they sent someone out to redo the living area. Which was great but in general I would say it wasn’t as clean as in previous years.

"I did not raise these issues whilst at the property because I refuse to waste precious holiday time."
Whilst I appreciate that sykes have no control over the cleaning of these properties someone seriously needs to check on the people who clean them because on arrival we looked at the info booklet for rules and regs and it states leaving the place as we found it which would not please the next customer, because we found stale bread in the bread bin, the toast rack was dirty, and there were hairs on one of the double beds, also, the description is not exactly correct because it doesn't state that the garden is shared, this is vital because if one family has dogs and the neighbour doesn't it could cause a problem, the location and views are unquestionably spectacular and it's a shame certain things spoilt the experience, finally two points to consider. 1. At a property costing £2500 For 1 week you should not have to make a phone call to raise heating temperature, that is disgusting. 2. For the same reason (cost) you would expect a small welcome pack, I.e. milk, sugar, bread , because invariably when people arrive at the property with today's traffic problems they will get there late, therefore not be able to purchase, even if the rule is that you replace them on leaving the property, just a suggestion, many thanks, Tony.
Tony I'm sorry to hear the Cottage wasn't clean enough. We lost our regular cleaner earlier this year and although that is no excuse we are working hard to find a good replacement. Apologies about the heating it is difficult to monitor from a distance. I'm sure you will agree to make one phone call is straightforward. We have two dogs and have never had a problem with the shared garden. It has the advantage of doubling the size the dogs can play in. All best Chris Property Owner

"Such a lovely property with an amazing view."
It’s great to sit and watch the surfers and the waves roll in. Perfect for sunsets too. We found the property comfortable and cosy, everything was clean and tidy with ample amenities. Parking is great and the outside patio is perfect to enjoy the views. We will visit again.
Delighted you enjoyed your holiday. The reasons you give for enjoying your stay are the reasons we purchased the property. The view and the sunsets are amazing. Please do come and stay again. Property Owner

"Do not stay here!"
!! (Have they all gone?) good. Because this is by far one of the loveliest cottages I have stayed in. The beds are the comfiest I have slept in, the cottage was clean and welcoming. Obviously the hi-light was watching the waves crash, the surfers surf and the sea in all its stages from the comfort of an arm chair, or with a glass of wine on the patio. This cottage is a family home, with all the comforts that allows; including gadgets, kitchenware and artwork. This just makes it more welcoming. To cover some other points: The cooker is tricky, but because it’s aimed to keep you safe, not faulty. Just keep your finger on the standby button to activate. The Hope and Anchor in the village is lovely, food, drinks, view and service. The staff are lovely. The Cove has a lady who is front of house, she is more aggressive than is necessary in a small restaurant. But the food lovely so duck and cover and enjoy! The Hotel is charming and the cocktails are very nice. Be warned the village shop is basic and expensive, which is a shame as it could be a goldmine, the staff again are lovely. So if you did read past the first line and have uncovered the secret that is Ocean View, I am sure you will have a wonderful time. We certainly did.
What a fantastic review so positive thank you, delighted. Please do come back... Property Owner

"We arrived to ocean view and yes the views are incredible."
However we were a little disappointed by the cleanliness of the property for the money we had paid. Firstly, all carpets need a deep clean. We have a baby and allowing her to crawl about wasn't hygienic in the bedrooms. The lock on the bathroom door doesn’t work. The tap in the kitchen leaks. The patio hadn't been cleaned or swept in years and we had to clean broken glass and cigarette ends up before we could use it. After we stripped the beds on Friday, our leaving day we were shocked to see the state of the beds. Staining was evident everywhere. I have taken a picture of one bed as it had a used incontinence pad under the sheet and my mother had been sleeping on it all week unaware. The fact that this was still on the bed from a previous guest means that the sheets clearly were not changed once they had left, or the cleaner had made a conscious decision to leave a used incontinence pad on the bed. There was years worth of dust and cobwebs behind the head boards in all bedrooms which became apartment when trying to retrieve a baby’s toy. The seat cushions around the table need a good clean as they are all dirty. Mould was prevalent in the grout and non-slip mats in the en-suite and main bathroom. In general the entire house could do with a proper deep clean or the owners should seriously consider lowering the price of staying here. We have stayed in hopecove many times before (Every year for the last 16 years) and thus have stayed in many rental properties and can safely say that despite being one of the most expensive properties to rent in Hope Cove it certainly does not provide value for money in its current state. We have always had an information book in every property we have stayed in, however we didn’t have one specific to this property this time so therefore had no idea what to do with rubbish and how to separate the recycling etc. The patio furniture is dated and broken with the cushions to practically all the furniture dirty and covered in dog hair. A dangerously rusty parasol base was provided but no parasol? We were very lucky with the weather so spent most days outside of the property and overall we did have a nice time. Its definitely one of the best properties in hope cove for parking, location and views, the whole house just needs a really deep clean and a little updating. Either that or the owners really should consider reducing the price to bring the expectations of visitors in-line with the reality of the property.
I'm so sorry the property wasn't clean. Our normal cleaner, who is excellent, I understand was away and there was a stand in. This wont happen again. The cleanliness of the terrace does rely on guests being responsible. If a glass is broken we would ask guests to clear up. We do clean the terrace regularly . The headboards and non slip matts were replaced 18 months ago, so should all be clean behind. The kitchen tap has only recently starred dripping and we have asked a plumber to replace it. The carpets are deep cleaned annually. If any mattresses are stained they will be replaced. We ask guests to keep their dogs off all furniture but this is very difficult t o police. I hope you will try us again. I would add that the pricing is set by Coast and Country, and not us.. Property Owner

"Lovely bungalow with great sea views."
Used outside seating area every day. It was an added room on warm days. Kitchen ok but fan oven didn't seem to work. Everything lovely and clean apart from one dish in cupboard put away very dirty. These are very small gripes. We would certainly book again.
Delighted you enjoyed your stay. We have had the engineer look at the fan oven. It does work I think it just doesn't make any noise. We are working hard to keep it clean. Property Owner

"We loved the kitchen , lounge , bathrooms ( very clean)and view!"
! There are lots of soft furnishings and personal items which made it difficult to clean well in some parts of the property, in the time cleaners had. This is a dog friendly property and there was lots of evidence of this on the outside cushions. The bedroom furniture, carpets and curtains would benefit from updating to fit with the spec of the rest of the property …BUT our whole family loved it here, we would definitely stay again and these would just make it better! We stay in Hope Cove every year and this property is on our return visit list- The owner was extremely helpful when the Wi-Fi went down. Very much appreciated . Thankyou.
Delighted you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your positive comments. We do have plans to upgrade the bedrooms and will make sure the cleaners work hard to keep it clean. Property Owner

"Was a nice place to stay - could do with removing the key box by the garage?"
And possibly fitting a safe for possessions, hand rail down the steps to walkway for the older generation, but all in all good time had by all
Delighted you enjoyed your stay. Good idea to remove the key box by the garage we will look into that. Property Owner

About the location
HOPE COVE
Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles
The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
