"We had an amazing time at Totherside."
The house is beautiful and the views from the floor to ceiling windows are spectacular. Even our teenagers enjoyed sitting by the windows and taking in the view, watching the boats and the steam train. It is comfortable and really spacious. We all want to go back when the weather is warmer so we can enjoy table tennis and sitting outside in one of the many outside seating areas. Our Vauxhall Zafira Tourer was just fitted down the road with the wing mirrors folded in.

"What a fantastic house!"
Looks even better than the photos, views from every living area, including all bedrooms. Always lots to see on the river, amazing view. We had both our cars on the driveway, medium to large cars too. Wood lane is tight, but we just managed to drive down it unscathed. Lots to see an do in the area. Best house we've stayed in.

"Our family had a wonderful week at Totherside which is even more lovely than the pictures online."
We arrived to a lovely welcome pack full of goodies, which was very appreciated! The property is spacious and is well equipped; however the best feature is the unadulterated, ever changing view of the Dart Estuary, Dartmouth and the wonderful steam train that passes by the property. We would come back in a heartbeat!
-
"Our second stay here and it was as before, wonderful."
The house is very well equipped and maintained to a high standard. The position is great for the stunning views, even on a dismal day. The goodies and treats provided made us feel most welcome. Thank you.
-
"Another lovely stay at such a wonderful house."
Great views, a very well equipped, spacious and comfortable property. I can’t fault this gem in Kingswear, the views across the River Dart are amazing day and night and it has everything you need. Can’t wait to return!
-
"A very accurate description of the road and steps was an absolute must."
It was a little hairy getting our Q2 down the lane, but we were forewarned and it wasn’t an issue. And there is also the option of unloading your car and then leaving it on the car park by the railway station (£8 for 24 hrs) And regarding the steps, the view from the lounge window made the climb up inconsequential, I could have sat there all day.

"Lovely property with fantastic views."

"We had a really wonderful break at Totherside, enjoying the magnificent views and facilities."
The welcome pack was the best we’ve ever been given, thank you very much. We found the Lane down to the property extremely narrow, but appreciate it was mentioned in the property information, but hadn’t realised quite how narrow it would be. We would seriously question if two cars could actually get out of the narrow entrance reversing up the steep hill. It wouldn’t stop us wanting to return though.

"Totherside is a lovely house in a beautiful position and is well kitted out."
All the beds were very soft and in my opinion not of sufficient quality for a house of this rental point. Also, the house should not really be marketed as sleeping 8 as the beds in the fourth bedroom were too small and inadequate. Cleanliness overall was good internally but the outside was in need of attention. It didn’t look like any gardening had been done for a long time. Also, the outdoor wooden benches were worn out and in need of replacement. I would consider staying here again if the above issues were rectified but not at the prices being quoted by Sykes for summer 2024 as these are unrealistic.
Thank you for your feedback. We have taken your comments on board, and although the property sleeps 8, the description clearly states 7 adults and one child. As August was a wet month the garden may have appeared a little overgrown, but this is maintained and managed on a regular basis. We have recently upgraded the outdoor furniture and will aim to replace the benches at some point. Property Owner

"Great place really loved the week and the reclining rockers in the window were brilliant."
The road down is very tight and we used the Marina cap park with a weekly ticket
-
"Would really recommend staying at Totherside, the view is amazing and the house was extremely comfortable, well equipped and very clean."
The steep hill and steps are definitely worth it for the view, can’t wait to stay again!

"We had a fantastic stay at Totherside and really enjoyed the property."
The views over to Dartmouth were breath taking, as was the walk up Wood Lane! Thanks so much for sharing your property with us, we would highly recommend. Regards, Luke and Ellen

"Beautiful property and location."
The house was fully equipped with everything we needed and we appreciated the lovely welcome basket.
-
"This is our third stay at Totherside and we could see that there the had been improvements made to the property."
It is a wonderful location and we very much enjoy staying
-
"Excellent Property with fabulous views."
Extremely well fitted out, comfortable and well designed. Lovely welcome pack on arrival which always makes a nice touch and start to your holiday. We will no doubt return.
-
"A beautiful house with an amazing view of the River Dart across to Dartmouth."
The house was clean, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed and more. A wonderful place to spend a week!
-
"What can I say apart from we had an amazing time, to the point we didn't want to leave at all."
The view was beyond amazing and quiet a few evening meals were shared on the decking taking it all in. The children loved watching the steam train come in each day. The house was lovely and clean and loved our welcome pack. The only thing that made me uneasy was the road down to the house as stated it is narrow. However other family member was fine with using it and I was more than happy to pay to park our car in the car park at the marina each night. I walked back up the road instead which was steep but ment that I worked off our evening meal

"It is a stunning property."
The accommodation was well equipped and comfortable. The steam train that runs below is wonderful to watch and the sound of the toot as it goes past is enchanting. It was a superb holiday.

"The property was not as clean as we expected, food and materials on the floor behind 5he couch we moved to watch tv."
The drain in the shower was blocked, which I had to clean and clear. Complimentary basket, whilst nice would have been better if some nespresso pods and bread had been provided. The IT was a bit out of date, no netflix or amazon prime on the tv, no bluetooth speakers for music, no USB charging points. View spectacular, balconies great, facilities first class. Road challenging to drive and a hard walk including 50 steps up to the house. That shoukd be emphasised, as not suitable for disabled or those without good mobility. Finally, the information pack was not easy to find on arrival. much better to have it out ready on the table. It also needs to be updated. Not what we expected in a property this expensive.
Thank you for providing feedback following your stay at Totherside. We are sorry you did not find the property to be as clean as expected, we would have been more than happy to have asked our cleaners to return to rectify these issues had you notified us. The property description does mention the 40 step access to the property and the difficulties this may cause for the infirm, we have also mentioned the narrowness of the approach road, apologies if you missed this. "Totherside is a wonderful house with spectacular views over the river Dart."
The house is very clean and very well equipped. The only slight niggle is that we found the master bed a bit too soft for our liking. Would definitely recommend this house.
-
"The house was beautiful in every way."
The extra touches such as milk, biscuits, Prosecco etc were very much appreciated. The view from the lounge beat the tv any day and we spent our evenings just watching the river, it was breathtaking. Beds were very comfortable snd the showers amazing.
-
"Fabulous setting and very comfortable house"
-
"Totherside is beautiful - the views are mesmerising whatever the weather and the pictures just don’t do it justice."
The property is brilliantly equipped with some beautiful finishing touches. One word of warning about the access road - the sign at the top now says it narrows to 5ft 8inches - we navigated it in a Discovery 2 but it was a very tight squeeze! We’ll definitely look to go back (just in a smaller car!
-
"Lives up to expectations for a special occasion."
Good quality fittings as well. Improved ventilation in the double bedroom ensuite and living room would reduce musty smell when windows shut all day.
-
"We had an amazing stay at Totherside."
The views are breath-taking and the property itself has everything you could ever want. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. We were fine with mid-sized cars, but it's worth warning people with big SUVs that they would have trouble accessing the property, but that didn't affect our fabulous holiday.
-
"Great house in a lovely location."
The views from the living room and balconies are incredible and the house is very well proportioned and well equipped internally. We felt the garden was quite overgrown and the outside furniture was lacking. As a premium property we were also a little disappointed with balcony doors and velux windows which were "not in use" restricting ventilation; and conflicting information about rubbish / recycling services. However these were quite minor issues and we had a fabulous week and the weather was amazing. We wouldn't hesitate to return to this lovely property.
-
"The property was really beautiful and exceeded our expectations."
The access to the property is quite difficult, and if you have a good sized car you cannot park on the drive. There are a lot of stairs required to access the property so it is not suitable for everybody. However, the size and standard of accommodation is excellent.
-
"Absolutely gorgeous property and stunning view!"
I would recommend to everyone I know. Not just a beautiful house but fantastic service, extremely helpful on our needs and we were very grateful! Thank you for such a wonderful holiday
-
"The cottage was beautiful it exceeded our expectations."
Disappointed with sykes as we had to change our holiday due to coronavirus to out of season. We were declined the difference in price refund.
-
"Very enjoyable, stunning views and a lovely very well equipped house."
-
"Totherside in Kingswear Devon was amazing."
It looked very good on the website but the actual property and location exceeded all our expectations. It's a fantastic very clean and well equipped spacious house which feels like a home as soon you walk in. The views from the lounge and balcony are absolutely stunning as is the surrounding area. We had three generations of our family together there and we all agreed it's one of the best properties we have ever stayed in. We wished we could have stayed longer and will most definitely return. We would all highly recommend it.
-
"An excellent property with stunning views and very well equipped."
We would happily return. The driveway is challenging even with a small car and sensible to know that the road in is one way The welcome pack was well received but again it would be sensible to tell people what will be provided so they don't duplicate and helpful to let guests know where all the instruction manuals are on arrival just in case of problems (induction hobs are not intuitive!) It really is a lovely property - one of the best we have stayed in.
-
"Totherside is a fantastic place to stay."
It is just as good as it appears on the listing.
-
"Totherside is a fabulous house with amazing views."
It is very well equipped and beautifully furnished. We had a brilliant week and will be back again. Thanks!

"Firstly ! I DONT want to take anything away from this beautiful house and our enjoyment of it BUT sadly I do have to start with a bit of the not so good stuff !"
. I had noticed on an review from SEPT 18 that a guest had encountered some issues on arrival with the key safe and contact numbers for the given caretaker company - so enough time you would have thought to sort that ? HOWEVER it took us over an hour to get into the house - the key safe is now redundant yet we were advised it housed the keys - entry is now gained from a KEY PAD which is located behind you when you arrive and look for a KEY SAFE !!. NO mention of a KEY PAD at all or its location which once you find it and understand what it maybe it is obvious BUT keep in mind you are directed to a KEY SAFE ? . Then we were also left with our car blocking the lane because we hadn't been given the gate code for entry - so we automatically became unpopular to neighbours who couldn't pass and we couldn't get off the lane - no mention anywhere of a gate release inside the grounds !! WORST OF ALL was the phone call to the caretaker who abruptly said we aren't the caretakers and haven't been for months and that they were fed up of being called - they couldn't or didn't want to help - we then had to call Sykes who even at 17.30hrs on a dark Saturday night thankfully answered and tried to assist but couldn't really offer anymore information other than now offer a gate code so we could move the car off the lane THANK YOU for Sykes for at least being there and ringing me back several times until after a process of elimination and head scratching we worked out it WASN'T a KEY SAFE we needed but a KEY PAD approx. 3in x 3in on an opposite wall ALL of this is important to mention regardless of what has been paid BUT even more annoying when you have paid for the DEAREST WEEK of the year XMAS and paid double what you can expect to pay in the height of Summer - VERY DISAPPOINTING REALLY HOWEVER - we SIMPLY love the place it is truly fantastic and we felt as if we belonged there DISPITE ALL of the above we had a FANTASTIC time in this beautiful home in a beautiful area - EVERYTHING we expected to enjoy from this house we did and the owners should be proud to own such a lovely home that they are prepared to share with paying guests SO - PLEASE PLEASE sort out these arrival issues and provide the correct details inc current caretakers etc to avoid this We arrived in the dark on a Winters evening having travelled for 6 hours we didn't need that !! We hope to re-visit in the Summer and again make the most of this GEM I deliberated about this review and how NOT to record a POOR review and I hope I have done that but our initial arrival issues had to be mentioned because it DID cause some level of stress I really thought we were going to have to find a hotel that night BEAUTIFUL HOME though !! FIVE STARS -- HONESTLY Hammond Family - GLOSSOP DERBYSHIRE
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us your feedback. Firstly, we are delighted you liked Totherside and very pleased to hear that you overall enjoyed your stay. We would like to apologise profusely for the inconvenience on arrival at gaining access to the property. We would like to reassure all future guests that we have now fully updated all information surrounding access information and there should be no further issues encountered by guests. Thank you again for your compliments, despite the trouble on arrival we're glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you again soon! Property Owner

"You emailed us the wrong key safe number and quoted a phone number for a company called WHK services in case of any problems."
When we called this company to ask what was the correct key safe number they said they had stopped all responsibility for Totherside several months ago and could not help us. We could have done without this stress on arrival. Otherwise, the property was perfect.

"Great holiday had by all, house was amazing and couldn’t ask for a better view of the river."
Everything was of a high standard and lovely welcome gift left by hosts! Would recommend to anyone!
-
"Second time here."
Fabulous. A superb holiday home with views to die for.
-
"Fabulous property."
Superb views over the estuary and marina, hence 2nd time of staying here! Nice touch to get the essentials on arrival. Tea, coffee, milk, bottles of wine! Had a few issues with hot water running cold before everyone had showers even though pressing the extension dial. Room stats set up for wrong time of day. Didn't seem to be provision for recycling glass. (took down to marina) These minor issues certainly would not put me off returning to this amazing property. Despite the rain, had a great time in this picturesque part of the world. Lots of walks with the family and many challenging steep slopes and steps, including up to the property! Lovely places to drink and eat, especially Rockfish. Catered full menu for gluten free. Thankyou
