  • "Lovely location - I had a very peaceful and enjoyable week with my small dog."

The views were fabulous and the cottage comfortable. Owners were welcoming and friendly and I particularly appreciated the cream tea which had been left for me.

  • "This cottage was extremely comfortable with some wonderful views."

The cooker was easy to use and there was plenty of crockery and cutlery. The towels provided were of good quality and the owners very friendly and helpful. The cream tea and milk that was left was very acceptable.

  • "Well equipped although a little dated and in need of 'some TLC', eg silicon sealer around shower unit, lots of trailing electrical cables, bathroom taps need replacing."

No sharp knives except 1 bread knife and TV remote buttons very worn and so difficult to control the volume etc. Not sure why a large interactive white board is on the lounge wall. Owners very friendly and welcoming. There was a strong smell of cannabis (weed) all day, everyday - possibly from the house next door. Lovely views, location, and base for visiting various places.

It’s location is great not too far from the A39 but far enough away down country lanes to feel away from everything. The owners are very welcoming and their dogs friendly.

  • "Other visitors have mentioned basic facilities need improving but this has not been carried out."

We would not consider this property again until this has been done. The sofa was very worn and each person was made to lean to the centre, due to wear. For a small amount, this could have been helped by using, a throw. The oil cloth on the kitchen table, had several holes in it, and was very worn,; again for a small sum, this could have been simply replaced . There was no fish slice, so to cook and serve a full English was more difficult than need be, as with other dishes. Only a palette knife was available for turning cooked food. Not what I expected!! Location was very good for visiting local towns and beaches. Mrs A Lane August 2021

Thank you for your comments. We have discussed these points with the owner who will address these points. There is now a fish slice in the property, the other one had gone missing over the summer season. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the Bushel."

The location is perfect , the hosts are very friendly, everything in the cottage works and everything you need is there. Our only observation is that fittings and facilities are looking a bit 'tired and could do with a makeover which other reviewers have also noted. However, that didn't spoil our stay in any way so will not stop us returning in the future.

  • "Location of the cottage feels like it is the middle of nowhere, it's so peaceful and dark at night."

Great for stargazing but you're only 10 minutes from shops & the main A39 so driving to the coast or attractions is easy. Welcoming hosts and brilliant unspoilt fishing. If you're expecting luxury, this is not the cottage for you but it's homely and down to earth. It has everything you'll ever need including a hairdryer, wahing machine, pegs, washing basket, iron & ironing board, vacuum cleaner, broom & dustpan and brush for sweeping the pesky leaves off the floor. We really loved it and we'll certainly book again.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay here."

The accommodation is modest, but perfectly comfortable, including the bed, and situated in a working farm with wonderful views over the valley. Robert and Ellen were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and allowed us to fish in their ponds and spend time in their badger hide. The farm is situated in an ideal location for beaches of outstanding natural beauty, and has a feeling of being off the beaten track, yet there are supermarkets only a few minutes drive away, so super-convenient too. I feel really grateful for our time at The Bushel and would definitely come and stay again. Thank you!

  • "Accommodation was lovely, Mr & Mrs Lee greeted us well."

Unfortunately the weather wasn’t at its best but that didn’t detract from the cottage’s beautiful location. Bit tricky to find but when we did it was in a really convenient location. If you are a fisher person, it’s great too. It’s tranquil and a relaxing place to be. We enjoyed our time at this cottage and would recommend it to anyone who loves peace and quiet.

  • "A massive thank you to mr & Mrs Lee, the location of The Bushel was perfect for us."

It was so peaceful and relaxing. The cottage was so well equipped, above and beyond any other self catering place we've been to. The scones and cream were most enjoyable sat on the patio whilst taking in the views. The biggest bonus for us was the fishing, several well stocked lakes, a catch to be had at every cast and a 2 minute walk from the cottage. Although the weather was not as we would have liked The Bushel is not that far from a lot of the main attractions Devon has to offer. This is the ideal place for those who want to get away and forget the hustle and bustle of life. Once again thank you for our relaxing time at The Bushel and we look forward to a return visit. • "Lovely, friendly people, willing to help if necessary."

Cottage sufficient with kitchen and utensils, settee, table and chairs and an en-suite. Not the most comfortable cottage we have stayed in. No wi fi available which was a minus, although I believe there are plans to improve this. The access to the cottage was the biggest problem as there are single track roads ( and a final single track farm road) with overgrown planting on both sides, including brambles (thorns!). You need to be competent at reversing your vehicle, as locals are not willing to do this !!! Also the parking, although technically is ‘off road’, is only available on the verge of the farm track, with tractors and lorries passing close by. Not within view from the cottage. Lovely views from the lounge / kitchen window.

  • "As predicted, the Sat Nav let us down in the final moments and the track to the farm is a little lumpy."

But having got there the hosts were very friendly and helpful, even laying on scones and cream in the fridge as well as a few extras. The accommodation was very clean but quite basic. If you are looking for plush indoor surroundings this may not be for you,but the views are beautiful and the area is very peaceful so if you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday this is the place for you!

Peaceful, rural and the sheep were a little beautiful. The owners were friendly but unobtrusive although their dogs were less so. Not a problem though as they were cute as anything. Great place to chill. Nice base to access the North Devon coast we even went into Cornwall for a day. Daring but necessary

Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. The accommodation had everything you would need. The location was so peaceful, and although we are not into fishing, we can appreciate that some people would have enjoyed catching some really big fish. It was only a very few minutes drive from the major supermarkets, and yet was in the middle of beautiful countryside. It is an ideal location for exploring North Devon. We will certainly recommend this gem of a place, and will not hesitate to return there again.
