  • "May Blossom Barn is an extremely well appointed and comfortable holiday cottage and we had a very enjoyable stay there."

We've stayed on Dartmoor dozens of times and usually go for more remote locations but the benefit of the location of this property is the easy access to many parts of the moor without 'squeezing' and reversing down lots of narrow lanes (which we don't mind but it can get wearing). The lounge and bedrooms were very comfortable; the log burner was easy and efficient to use. The kitchen was very well appointed and we got used to the Rayburn (we had one years ago in our first house) which does take longer to heat up than a conventional oven and the top shelf is slightly hotter than the bottom one (obviously, with no fan). It was part of slowing down for the week. A bit of care is needed entering and leaving the drive because it's near a bend but the road isn't particularly busy. All in all it is an excellent property and we wouldn't hesitate to book it again.

  • "This was our third stay at the gorgeous May Blossom Barn and we're already planning our fourth visit!"

The quality of everything in this cottage is first class - from the tasteful decor to the high-quality fixtures and fittings. It is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into making this cottage as comfortable as possible. The rooms are large - the kitchen is enormous! It's cosy, with amazing views across one of Dartmoor's most beautiful valleys. It is also incredibly convenient for this part of Dartmoor with Bovey Tracey and Lustleigh just down the road and Moretonhampstead just up the road. Really, you have everything you could possibly want here for a holiday on east Dartmoor. There is also an EV charger now beside the parking space. While we were there, the area was hit by storms (thankfully on just one day). However it affected the Rayburn which heats the cottage and also doubles as a stove. The owners responded immediately when I messaged them to say that we had no heat or cooking facilities, and talked me through how to reset the Rayburn so everything was working again. The owners are friendly and obviously really care about their guests' comfort. So five stars there as well.

  • "Great week at May Blossom Barn."

Good location. Fabulous interior, lovely bedrooms/bathrooms and luxurious well-fitted kitchen with a full range of appliances. Small front garden with high hedging and immediately adjacent to 'A' road which is busy and noisy during the day (but not at night). Excellent pre-arrival instructions from hosts who were also very responsive when we encountered initial challenges with the Rayburn oven/hob (which takes some getting used-to). Would stay again and happy to recommend

  • "Lovely cottage."

Very clean and despite being near a busy road, quiet at night. My only problem would be the Rayburn. I am used to gas/electric ovens and found this a little difficult to understand. Anyway for anyone used to these cooking facilities, I guess it’s not a problem. Otherwise all great.

Absolutely wonderful. Very clean, comfortable, with tasteful furnishings, bedding, towels, etc. The kitchen was just perfect and with everything you would need to self-cater. The Rayburn a delight and surprisingly easy to use. Plenty of hot water, and such a comfy bed. Slept so well. Easy access to all our favourites on Dartmoor and further afield. We holiday in the West Country every year and know the area well. The only issue was a slight problem with the lock to the front door. We made Louise, the owner, aware and she was quick to respond and get a locksmith organised. An absolute gem of a property. We certainly hope to return! Thank you.

Everything from the towels to pillows were top quality, no expensive has been spared. The kitchen had everything you wanted & was spotless. The beds were comfy & rooms spacious. The owner has many great books for local walks & we did some with stunning scenery over the moors. Some wonderful local restaurants serving great food were only minutes away. We visited, Torquay, Exeter, Plymouth, Totnes amongst other places, all within a short car journey away. We’re definitely going to return as we couldn’t fit everything into our week. Thoroughly recommend this lovely barn

May Blossom Barn is a spacious and extremely well appointed and equipped property. We felt at home as soon as we walked in. We had read some excellent reviews and in our experience it more than lived up to our expectations. It is set in a beautiful location and is an excellent centre for travelling further afield if guests want to visit other areas of Devon or even Cornwall. The owners provided us with some excellent information prior to our arrival and in the property. We would very much like to return.

There wasn’t any sugar for that first cup of tea although there was milk biscuits tea bags and fizz - thank you - I should have packed it !! Maybe a little bit more kindling wood

We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay! We do provide bath mats. They look almost identical to the hand towels, so it’s possible you’ve been drying your hands on them! There’s a pretty endless supply of both logs and kindling in the storage containers on the driveway, as described in the guest handbook. Hope to see you again! Property Owner

  • "This is the second time we've stayed at May Blossom Barn this year!"

We loved it so much after the first visit! Please check back on my previous review as there's no point in repeating what I wrote there. We just love this cottage - light and airy with lovely views across the valley. It's also warm in cooler months - and the Rayburn is very simple to use (I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get the hang of it, but it's easier to use than a conventional oven & hob). Everything you need is supplied - all top-quality: towels, crockery, cutlery, etc. Plus, the barn is beautifully, carefully and thoughtfully decorated and furnished. Look for the hare symbols - even the hook on the back of the shower room door is a small iron hare's head with the ears acting as a hook. The barn is also equipped with locally-made items such as the glass coasters in the bedrooms and other glass ornaments. Having stayed in another cottage this summer which comprised cheap chain-store furnishings and equipment throughout (not through Helpful Holidays or Sykes, I hasten to add, but another cottage company), May Blossom Barn with its superior fixtures, fittings and equipment is an absolute dream and a delight to arrive at after a long drive. We will definitely be returning - hopefully this will become our bolt-hole for future Devon & Dartmoor holidays.

Really comfy beds and a great night sleep. The Rayburn was a new experience for cooking and there was a combination oven/microwave to use as well. The views from the window seats over Dartmoor are stunning and we were all a little sad to leave. Well positioned to enjoy the area- to be honest we ran out of days to do all we wanted- visited Salcombe, Babbacombe, Totnes, swam in the open air pool at Chagford, hired bikes at Dawlish Warren for cycling along River Exe, canoeing and a fantastic day out at the local Lustleigh show. Complimentary milk, tea, coffee and biscuits and a bottle of fizz in the fridge were much appreciated. We all loved it so much and would definalty book again.

Sadly the weather wasn't good but the cottage is equipped with lots of games, which we enjoyed playing with our 2 grand children. It's also ideally located for all the local attractions, such as Byegones, Paignton Zoo, South Devon Railway and Kents Caverns - all recommended for a day out. • "This is a fabulous property, beautifully & tastefully decorated and really well equipped, especially the large kitchen which has everything you could ever need on holiday."

Don't be put off by the Rayburn (there's no conventional hob / oven, but there is a combi-microwave) - my adult son mastered it in minutes and cooked some amazing meals for us on it during our stay. The beds were super-comfy and the bathroom & the shower room were stunning. Some people have commented on the garden being rather small - actually we thought it was perfect, and the fact the property has other properties around it (another barn next door and a couple more barns at the back plus the white B&B house opposite on the driveway) wasn't an issue at all. We didn't see another soul during our stay! Other people have mentioned the road noise. Yes, it is directly on the A road from Bovey Tracey to Moretonhampstead, but the traffic was very light, especially during the day. Even sleeping with the windows open, we weren't bothered by any road noise, or when we were in the garden. The bonus, of course, is that there's no lengthy farm track to negotiate before you're on a proper road, so getting around the area was fast and easy. Other people have commented on the entrance being tricky to drive into because the property is on a blind bend, but we didn't find this to be a problem at all. Turning left out of the driveway is fine as any traffic (and there wasn't much traffic, really) tends to be slower due to the bend being where the road narrows to single-track). To avoid the worry of turning right out of the drive on a blind bend, we simply turned left, then turned round in the B&B driveway literally seconds down the road. Problem sorted! Driving TO the property from the Bovey end is really easy - after the B&B sign, just look for the big white house which is where you turn into the driveway. Parking for one car wasn't a problem at all - very easy. Driving TO the property from the Moreton end wasn't a problem, despite the bend, we just indicated early, then turned into the driveway. Again, very straightforward. The views from the property across the valley are simply incredible and it's very close to Lustleigh village with its pub, tearoom, post office / farm shop / dairy (lovely local produce!) and an intriguing gallery where you can buy prints and greetings cards (not always open). The only issue we had was with the recycling as the recycling boxes hadn't been sorted properly by previous guests. I emailed Louise, the owner (I don't think they live locally), who responded immediately and was really friendly and helpful. We'd definitely come back to this property in the future - a very pleasant stay with everything we needed at hand.

The owners were very quick to respond when we had a question about the Wifi upon arrival. The cottage is in a very good location for those wishing to walk and cycle. We went on some lovely walks around the nearby reservoirs, around Castle Drogo and on Dartmoor. It is close to a cycle route but our favourites were the Granite Way and Exemouth estuary routes. The nearby village of Lustleigh is outstandingly beautiful with lots of thatched cottages. We enjoyed The Cleave pub and the tea rooms and the staff in both were particularly friendly.

  • "We enjoyed every moment of our 4 night stay at May Blossom Cottage."

Lustleigh is a beautiful village on the south side of Dartmoor. The property was finished to a very high standard in every respect and although the front garden was small and the A road alongside was busy during early morning and late afternoon it didn't detract from the relaxing atmosphere and comfort of the property. We were able to visit the pub in the village for lunch on our first day. This was excellent as were the Primrose Tea Rooms who packed up our lunch on the last day as we drove on to Tintagel and Padstow for a further week of hot sunshine. We explored Haytor and another Tor. I hadn't realised there were so many and took the ferry from Dartmouth to explore Greenaway and Coloton Fishacre, both stunning and fascinating NT properties. We enjoyed relaxing back at May Blossom Barn in the late afternoon and early evening and watching Wimbledon. We hope to be able to return as it was such a beautiful part of Devon to explore.

  • "Had updated Sykes with a fourth person prior to holiday commencing."

This person was staying two nights, one either end of our confirmed one week stay. This also told to Sykes. The property owner was just finishing preparing beds when we arrived about 15:45. Entry was from 16:00. When he left he telephoned Sykes to inform them we had a young child with us and suspected there were five people staying (4 person property). Not pleasant to be assumed dishonest. Young child was my early twenties grandaughter who had been put on the list as the fourth person. Sykes called with accusary tone and questioning which felt very unnecessary. Owner could have asked us himself at the time of our introducing ourselves prior to him leaving. Owner assumed grandaughter younger (because of her looks/dress?) and two people yet to arrive regardless of our telling him fourth person was still travelling from south east to join us. Sykes key pad number was not updated on their information supplied to us and had difficulty entering the property. Had to trouble the owner (wife) who gave correct key code. Property situated on bend of main road, not good for walking but excellent for exploring area by car. Required extra vigilance when entering/leaving driveway especially for right hand turn. Two car parking next to sloping area with bins. Very tight and fought with hedging to get around car to enter/exit gate. We had one medium and one small car. Property was nicely done, clean, comfortable with everything well thought through. Personally we found ticking clocks irritating when trying to relax although others may find it quaint.

Thank you for your feedback. We have discussed your comments with the owner and we wish to inform you that we are carrying out thorough cleaning throughout all our properties due to COVID-19. We hope you can understand the importance of this. The property was made available to you at the scheduled time of 4pm. We are sorry if the key code information was missed, the key code is sent out both by us and in this instance, by the owner too. Unfortunately, there is little we can do about the bends of the road and this is the nature and charm of Devon. It is a pity that you were unable to explore the area around the cottage, as there are some great walks directly from the doorstep. We have had several guests stay at the property with two cars who have comfortably parked. We are glad to hear of your positive comments and hope the negatives did not impact your stay too much.
