  • "We really enjoyed our stay in this clean, comfortable and warm property."

Within easy walking distance to Lynton it’s an ideal place to stay if you want to explore the area. As we arrived in the dark the clear, detailed directions sent via email by the owners were very much appreciated.

  • "We had a lovely stay, pity it wasn't longer."

Plenty to do and see in the area and the owners were lovely. And the Thai meal we had, literally just down the hill at the Cottage Inn was superb. We would definitely recommend staying here and will visit again ourselves too.

  • "Quiet and good location."

Shower and washroom not ideal, especially exiting shower was awkward. There was nowhere to place things in the wash area, steps in both shower and wash room were not ideal, especially during the night.

  • "Very clean and tidy apartment."

The living area and bedroom are very spacious which is a big plus point. So much to do and see locally with Lynton a real treat with its quaint shops, cafes and restaurants. Our favourite restaurant was The Old Bank. Further afield the West Somerset Railway at Minehead and Dunster are well worth a visit. TV was internet only so we could not get UK stations, BBC etc. but that was not a big issue.

Paul and Wendy have provided just about everything you could wish for including a wonderfully comfortable bed! The location is also perfect being just a 10 minute walk from a wide selection of pubs and restaurants. We will definitely return for another stay!

  • "A very fine, spacious, comfortable, well furnished ground floor apartment in a spectacular location."

Absolutely quiet - no traffic, human or vehicular, no aircraft. Dark sky, clean sea air, a heaven for walkers. Decidedly one of the very best places we’ve stayed in many years of travel, here and overseas.

  • "Ferndale has everything you need for your stay."

It is spacious, comfortable, clean and warm and has a very welcome parking space. The interior is tastefully decorated and well equipped with quality furnishings, a very nice bathroom and all you need in the kitchen. The TV has no ariel but streaming services are available so remember to bring your login details with you. Ferndale is in a quiet location but Lynton is only a 10 minute walk away along a pleasant footpath (with a steep but short hill as you enter the village) where there are cafes and the not to be missed Lyn Valley Art & Craft Centre which is a cut above many other so-called craft centres. Charlie Fridays Coffee Shop serves an excellent breakfast and good coffee too. Lynmouth can be accessed by the funicular railway and a very nice Sunday lunch can be enjoyed at the The Ancient Mariner pub. Wendy and Paul are excellent hosts, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Ferndale.

We will definately be back (assuming the property maintains its no pet stance - we like dogs but one of us is allergic). Nicely decorated, super clean, well equiped, comfy bed and decent shower. Couldn't ask for more. Thanks.

The accommodation is warm and comfortable, with all the facilities you need after a day’s walking or cycling. The area has lots to offer without needing to use the car and being able to walk into Lynton is a real bonus. Wendy and Paul are very welcoming hosts and we would definitely consider a return visit.

  • "I visited in autumn, looking out to the colourful trees."

A gorgeous property, well decorated, with a large comfortable bed. A beautiful area, lovely walks, places for coffee and food, particularly The Moorland Pantry, which is also a deli and shop, and Charlie Fridays. Glorious bus ride to Minehead, and also Barnstaple. Great to visit Lynton/Lynmouth without the crowds, even with some places closed, including cliff railway, was not a detraction. Great fish and chips at The Esplanade in Lynmouth. The owners of the property are delightful.

  • "Ferndale is a perfect bolthole in a beautiful area."

The apartment is clean, comfortable and well equipped and the owners Paul and Wendy, next door, are welcoming and helpful. We only used the car once during the week to visit Dunster Castle (well worth a visit). Otherwise the immediate area is full of stunning walks both coastal and along the rivers - but be prepared for some steep climbs! We made good use of the cliff railway. Thank you Paul and Wendy for a lovely break.

  • "Ferndale is a self-contained holiday home, adjacent to LynBridge House."

Once parked up (a bonus in the area) you enter Ferndale to be treated by a spacious kitchen/dining/living area. The furnishings are contemporary, the furniture is comfortable, and the kitchen has large work surfaces with all the appliances, etc you need. The bedroom is spacious with a large comfortable bed. The bathroom is acceptable. Top tips are: The Olde Cottage Inn - Thai Food, Pizzas, Microbrewery - loved it. Charlie Fridays cafe is great. Get the Cliff Railway down to Lynmouth, The Ancient Mariner is recommended - watch the times for the return trip on the Cliff Railway. We can tell you the walk back is not for the fainthearted! The Valley of the Rocks is a great coastal walk with many photo opportunities and nearby Combe Martin has a nice beach (when the tide is out). Overall, we loved our time at Ferndale; it's a great base for a splendid part of Devon.

It was beautifully decorated and very comfortable to sleep and spend time relaxing. We had planned to explore the surrounding area by car, but there were so many fabulous walks that we stayed local and didn't use the car all week. The (very) local pub was also a Thai restaurant with its own microbrewery and was excellent. We were lucky in having very good weather, but would recommend both the property and the area, as long as you're prepared for a few hills!

Avid walkers can join the South West Coast Path atop the dramatic cliffs towards the Valley of Rocks, a craggy dry valley formed overtime by coastal erosion, boasting panoramic views across the marvellous sea and homing quirky mountain goats that wander the rock faces.

Board the highest and steepest water-powered funicular railway and visit the twin village of Lynmouth, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the scenic harbour, or along the shingle seafront at Blacklands Beach, stopping at The Ancient Mariner for a delicious home-cooked meal on your return.

Lace up your walking boots and explore the delights of Exmoor National Park, a charming landscape of moorland, woodland, hills and tumbling rivers, hosting a plethora of scenic routes to discover, suitable for a range of abilities.

Further afield is the picturesque seaside resort of Ilfracombe, where the coastline is beautifully decorated with golden sand, including the private and secluded waters of the world-renowned Tunnel Beaches, aptly named after the tunnels that were hand carved in the 19th century to gain access to the unique tidal pools.

If you'd prefer to stay on land, test your swing at Ilfracombe golf club, perfectly positioned on top of the rugged cliffs, offering panoramic views of the dramatic coastline, or tour the 11th century Chambercombe Manor, thought to be haunted by the ghost of a ship wreck victim.
