  • "The cabin is very clean and comfortable, well equipped with everything you need."

Lovely spacious rooms, with a high standard of furnishings. The cream tea is a lovely gesture, and the treats for dogs are very thoughtful. We have stayed a few times and will always keep coming back.

  • "La Bella Vista is a fabulous place to stay."

Very clean and comfortable, spacious and a well equipped kitchen. The cream tea is a great touch, also all of the extras to accommodate dogs. The decking is a great area to relax and take in the views. We have already booked for another stay.

  • "Property is very well equipped It is clean Showers are an issue, although the electric showers work well."

Beds are a little soft but acceptable Flooring through out is lovely Site is dated Amnesties stating 30acres of land to roam in and swimming pool access are false. Not pleased about this!! Overall a pleasant stay but I think over priced for what it is.

  • "First impressions are great."

The layout of the living area works really well for a family - the sofas are comfy, the kitchen is a good size and very well equipped and there's plenty of space for eating. The decor throughout is very pleasant and there are nice touches like a selection of books and a treasure box with some children's cards games. The wifi was fairly reliable and fast enough to watch Netflix (which we did a lot because we weren't lucky with the weather) and use our phones. However, as other reviews have mentioned, there were a couple of things that really let the place down and had a big impact on our holiday overall. The bed in the master bedroom creaked so loudly that when one of us got out of bed, the other woke up - not great when one is a much earlier riser than the other or if you need to use the toilet through the night! This meant we started every day tired, which is not what you want for what is intended to be a restful holiday. The en suite shower room needs completely ripping out and re fitting. At first glance, it is a little dated, grubby and smells damp. We realised it was more than damp after we used the shower and, not only had to mop up a huge leak coming from under the skirting board near the toilet, but also noticed mushrooms/fungus growing in the gap between the floor and skirting near the shower. We chose this location specifically because of the on site pool. When we arrived we realised the Manor House is no longer open and no pool is available. We realise this is not part of the Sykes Cottage package, but as it is advertised as part of the on site facilities, an email explaining the change of circumstances would have been appropriate and appreciated. However, despite the issues we had during our stay, we would visit again and, overall, had a lovely holiday.

  • "We stayed in the same property in 2022 and we were all really surprised when we arrived and realised it was the same property."

The new owners have transformed the property beautifully. We loved the colours, the new kitchen and layout. The decking area was great and made the view even better! The quality of the living area furniture was great and made for a very comfortable stay. We all loved the wall unit, the rope lights, plus all of the beach themed bits and pieces. A peaceful site which is ideally located with lots of great places to visit within an hours drive. Sandymouth is a couple of miles up the road and a must to visit in the evening to watch the sunset over the amazing waves. Bude is a 10 minute drive away with 2 gorgeous beaches and the sea pool. Widemouth is 5 minutes outside of Bude, again, with awesome beaches, places to eat, and you can also get your walking boots on and follow the cliff path from Bude!

  • "Lovely base to explore Cornwall and great value for money."

The hot tap in bathroom doesn't work - did raise this when there and the gentleman came to fix it but still no hot water came through unfortunately. Bathrooms look a bit tired - grout / sealant wise. As previously mentioned the mattress in main bedroom creaked awfully - simply turning over woke you up and the other person. We relocated to the double bedroom which was better. But it was a fab space - lovely decorated - had everything you needed as a family. We enjoyed our trip. Thank you.

  • "The property was lovely to look at, however the floors were filthy, we had a 10 month old with us who is crawling, whenever we put him on the floor he would get dirty, our socks would get filthy just from walking on the floors, despite hoovering and mopping with not very effective cleaning products on the first day."

The hot tap in the bath also didn’t work. The listing states that there is a leisure centre with swimming pool, bar, take away and entertainment available from May, and you could buy a pass to use these facilities… NOTHING was open! After speaking to a local they told us that it had been permanently closed for a while and this should have been mentioned to us before booking. The leisure centre should not be included in the description of the property, we actually chose this stay over other properties to ensure the whole party had something to do everyday. There was one pub open within walking distance of our stay. We traveled 9 hours from the north and didn’t want to be stuck in the car everyday looking for things to do (which we spent a fortune on) this was very, very disappointing. Over all the stay was fine and we made the most of it, but wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient, relaxing, family friendly get away.

  • "We had a great time at La Bella Vista, would recommend the lodge to anyone."

The bed in main bedroom did have a creek quite a bit although I'm sure it can be sorted easily enough and a little disappointed that the on site facilities were not open due to refurbishment. It was an ideal base to for both Cornwall and Devon.

Thank you for your feedback. We're very sorry that the bar on site was being refurbished, unfortunately as a privately owned business its separate from our own and out of our control. The bed is actually new so we will check it and tighten fixings, thank you for making us aware. Look forward to welcoming you back in the future Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved staying at La Bella Vista."

It’s a lovely property with beautiful views in very peaceful surroundings. Everything was very well thought out and each member of the family had plenty of space and comfort throughout the stay. The property was spotlessly clean, well organised and the cream tea left in the fridge as a treat went down well! The only slight issue was the water supply, with 5 guests to get showered but only one shower can be used at a time, it makes getting out slower. This is the only negative about the property and despite this I’m sure we will be be back. It’s within a short easy drive of a choice of beaches so the kids were very happy. The on-site leisure centre pool and entertainment was great when the weather wasn’t. We would definitely recommend a stay here.

Really pleased you enjoyed your stay and our apologies regarding the water pressure. It is an issue we are continuously trying to improve and have fitted a water pump to ensure good water feed for the showers. We endeavour to further improve and are discussing options with the water authority. Look forward to welcoming you back in the future Property Owner

  • "Lovely setting, well equipped, only issue was water pressure, bit expensive for a half hour swim."

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately the water pressure in the area is poor at the moment and we have installed a pump to ensure the showers work well. As for the swimming pool this is a privately owned business and we have no control over their charges but will pass on your comments. We're glad you enjoyed your stay otherwise and look forward to hosting for you again in the future Property Owner

  • "Loved the property."

..kept well and decor beautiful. Lots of places to visit...weather not good so spent a lot of time in property. Recieved cream tea in fridge...lovely touch..thankyou. The only problem is the patio doors door work..the water feed is not good...if you have a shower there is no water else where in property. We don't have a dog but could smell dog smell all over couch cushions. If you have a dog was well catered for...dog treats and blankets!! Overall enjoyed our stay. thanks

Thank you for your feedback. I can confirm that our maintenance attended the door during your stay and found it to be working. It has been oiled to mitigate further problems. Regarding any dog smells we can only apologise for this. The lodge is thoroughly cleaned before new guests and we would like to think guests keep pets off furnishings. Going forward we will ask that our cleaners pay attention to this problem. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future Property Owner

About the location

KILKHAMPTON

Bude 4 miles.

Kilkhampton is an historic Cornish village, 4 miles from the popular Victorian seaside resort of Bude, one of Cornwall’s premier holiday locations. With its old church, village shops and atmospheric village pubs, Kilkhampton is a lovely place to relax after a hard day exploring the stunning beaches and spectacular coastal scenery for which the area is famous. Bude’s beaches attract surfers from all over the country and when conditions are right you’d be hard pushed to find better surf. When the tide is out, miles of golden sand and hundreds of rock pools keep visitors occupied for hours. The South West Coast Path, and many other rights-of-way winding over the clifftops and through lush green fields looking out over the sea, make this area a haven for walkers and lovers of the open countryside. For those who prefer staying closer to home, a good shopping centre and a selection of pubs, two clubs and restaurants are on offer. Bude canal, a registered nature reserve, passes through the town, and rowing a boat along its calm waters or walking the towpath among the beautiful (and friendly) water fowl that live among the reeds is a great way to spend an hour or two. Within the area there are also 2 golf courses, an indoor swimming pool, bowling alley at the leisure centre. A perfect location for all that North Cornwall has to offer.

Note: Passes to Penstowe Leisure are available at an additional cost for unlimited access to the swimming pools and facilities. There is also the King Arthurs Penstowe within the on-site Manor House which includes takeaway and on-site food and drinks and will fully be open in May 2022.
