"A delightfully peaceful location in a glorious part of Somerset."
An unique thatched property which could have come from a picture postcard. Only one query what is the breed of the five chickens that wander around the front lawn in the morning?
-
"From arriving we were both blown away by how perfect the exterior of the cottage looked, and were as equally thrilled when we went inside."
Lots of space and loads of storage in the kitchen, bedrooms and living room. The weather turned colder, we were concerned that previous reviews had said that the cottage was cold, this wasn’t our experience at all, we were toasty warm throughout the cottage. Fred checked with us to see if we were warm enough and if we needed the heating turning up more, which we didn’t. The hot tub, under a very starry sky, was wonderful after a busy day. Being close to the Devon boarder, it was great for us visiting family in Devon plus exploring Somerset coast and attractions (including the West Somerset Railway). We’re already planning our return to such idyllic surroundings.

"The cottage is the most amazing getaway you could wish for."
everything is provided and it's in excellent condition Loved the hot tub in the beautiful private gardens This house is really dog friendly and the fantastic owners made us so welcome. The nearest pub is a five minute drive away . All in all a wonderful break .

"This is a beautiful house in a very peaceful part of the world."
If you want to switch off and have a complete rest this is the place for you. The hot tub was lovely and the seating area outside was very relaxing. The host introduced herself and was very friendly and helpful. You can however drive to different places quite easily from this property. Would recommend and would love to stay again .
-
"Lovely place, the only thing what was wrong was the door frame were low and my parent is tall and hit his head couple of times, was nothing said on advert about this and nothing warning you to mind your head."
You can also hear people above you, altho this didnt bothered us. It's a gorgeous cottage tho and owners are lovely, welcoming and do go that Extra mile. We enjoyed are stay x

"Garden view is a beautiful and extremely comfortable cottage."
It is an ideal base for seeing the Dorset coast and north Devon coast with all of the countryside of Somerset in between. Plenty of places to eat just a short drive away but the cottage has a full size kitchen if you want to stay in and cook with a lovely farm shop about 10 minutes drive away. Fred the owner is welcoming and gave us lots of ideas for places to visit.

"Our fourth visit and plan to return."

"We loved this cottage so much."
It was absolutely perfect!

"We just returned from our holiday at this cottage and would definitely stay here again."
It was so peaceful and comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We used the hot tub in the evenings and what a view from the hot tub a beautiful garden full of flowers. Fresh flowers were in every rooms and the smell was lovely. We met Fred (the host) on the first day of our holiday and explained that we had forgotten our dogs heart tablets and asked if he knew of a vet that he could recommend and with his help we managed to get them supplied through the vets that he used after obtaining a prescription from our vet - this is over and beyond every day service. I would feel happy to recommend this cottage to friends and family.
-
"Absolute magical place."
We stayed 3 nights, with 2 kids and our dog. Place is clean and beautifully done. Owners are friendly and helpful. Will recommend this place to all people we know as we really enjoyed every minute there.

"We were very happy overall with this stay."
I would like to offer some ideas: 1, Was very difficult to find initially. No google. Might be useful to place a ping as a QR code on the internet site. 2, Should highlight the keybox code in the intro email. 3, A clothes dryer would be great. 4, Some maintenance issues were attended to very promptly both in direct call to Skys and later in person with owners. 5, You may wish to trim the apple tree branches within the driveway as these impede damage free parking for all cars needing this at the site. Otherwise really enjoyed the stay. Sorry about the glass. We will be coming back. Thank you.

"The heating is controlled by the owners and is not on all day."
Our week was cold and wet and we chose to stay in a lot, but we felt very cold. Yes, there is a hot air heater in the lounge, but it was noisy and didn't offer the warmth we required. There were a couple of problems with the showers which were sorted out promptly and apologetically. As stated in the blurb, the owners live upstairs. Quite a bit of noise could be heard. For some reason, the master bedroom, with the ensuite and heated wet room, had the smaller bed. We chose to use the bedroom with the king size bed. The ensuite shower room for this bedroom was unheated. The hot tub was wonderful and the garden is beautiful.

"Fantastic quiet location, lovely cottage, warm and cosy."
Very comfy beds, we had fantstic break with our dog. We will come back.Thank you ❤️
-
"A beautiful cottage in tranquil surroundings."
Gorgeous walks (for our four legged family member), and loads of days out only a short drive away including Steam Trains, harbours, the beautiful Jurassic coastline and some gorgeous towns too (and all very dog and child friendly!). Our little one loved it so much he’s not stopped asking when we will be going back and if we can ‘pop to see the horses again tomorrow’. We can’t recommend this place highly enough. It really was the perfect family break.

If you want peace, quiet and a place to sit back, relax and unwind, this will be the place for you. Close to some good pubs with nice food (short drive), and brilliantly located for exploring Somerset, Devon, Dorset and North Cornwall (longish drive). Thanks to Fred and Margo for making our stay so welcoming.

"It was a beautiful cottage with a lovely garden."
We liked to take the breakfast or the dinner in the garden smelling the pleasant smell of lavender. The cottage is ideal situated for discovering Devon an the south Somerset. The owners Margo and Fred were so friendly and had all ways good advices for things to do or for good pubs and restaurants!

"We found our holiday very relaxing if you want a quiet get away this is the place to go,its a great base point for exploring Somerset attractions."
Both Fred and Margo were very welcoming and helpful.
-
"A lovely cottage with a beautiful garden to relax in, nice cool cottage in the very warm weather we had."
Very peaceful location considering its nice and close to the M5 for convenience, the owners are very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The soundproofing is not completely quiet so you can hear upstairs a little and in their garden if that bothers you, we were OK with it. Nothing much in the kitchen so take any cooking ingredients you may want. Lots of attractions close by and lovely walks through woods from the cottage, nice to have the private hot tub. We had a lovely time and the dog enjoyed the garden, we would definitely return.
-
"We had a wonderful experience at this beautiful cottage."
Fred and Margo were really welcoming and went out of there way to make sure we had a pleasant stay. We will definitely be back.

"We have just returned from a wonderful, tranquil weeks holiday."
Garden View Cottage is beautifully presented in gorgeous, peaceful countryside. The cottage itself is exactly what you would expect a country cottage to feel like with all the mod-cons, uniqueness and an added bonus of the wow factor. The garden offers great space for relaxation or a good run around for the dog or children. The garden is enclosed, although it does have a low brick wall at the end of it, so if your dog is an escape artist I would recommend tethering it. The cottage's location is fantastic for getting out and about. It's close enough to the M5, so you can whip up and down it to explore Somerset and North Devon. Thank you Fred and Margo for a lovely stay, we will be back soon.
Thanks Karen for the feedback. We are glad you had such a super stay with your lovely dog. We were pleased you found so many great places to explore and look forward to welcoming you again soon! Best wishes Fred and Margo Property Owner

"Loved our stay at garden view, the cottage was gorgeous with its thatched roof and we had lambs in the field at the back of our garden and a friendly horse and foal opposite."
. so cute! The hot tub overlooking the countryside was great to relax in after a long dog walk! The garden isn’t enclosed though so we had to make sure our dog was attached to a long lead any time she went outside but she loved it. She spent most of her time sat in the doorway watching the world go by.
Thanks Joanne, We are pleased you had such a lovely stay and that your cute dog had a great time too… Best wishes Fred and Margo Property Owner

"We had a lovely week in this property."
Ideally situated for our purposes. Dog walking and visiting family and friends in local area and further afield in Exeter and Bristol. Charming rural location and very peaceful. Our personal preference is for a bigger bed (we chose the twins made up as a king) and would have preferred a top quality mattress. Would certainly revisit. A welcoming and helpful host.
Thanks Frances for the honest feedback. With the second bedroom, we wanted flexibility which is why we have that configuration. We will buy a comfort mattress topper to help with this issue. Best wishes Fred and margo Property Owner

"We were generally very happy with our stay ."
The property itself is beautiful ! We had a very relaxing week, the owners were friendly ,polite and welcoming . We had small issues in that the property is listed as having super king size bed when the main bed is a double 54” , being that Im 6’7 and not far off 20 stone this was a bit of a squeeze so we actually ended up putting the single beds together in the second room to gain some extra space ! This in turn caused an issue as the ceilings are really low I kept banging my head ha ha so if you’re tall be very careful
Hi Christopher, Thanks for the review. We appreciate the advice about the beds and have adjusted the description to describe it as king.. best wishes Fred and Margo Property Owner

"We loved our stay at Garden View."
Gorgeous property inside and out. Everything was clean and in working order. Very cosy, warm and relaxing. Hot tub was modern and luxurious. The owners were perfect. Extremely welcoming, friendly and assuring of our comfort there away from home. 100% book to stay here. Matt, Lauren, Siobhan and Gideon.

Beautiful cottage, if anything the pictures don't do it justice, just stunning. Very central location, easy to get to all of Devon and Somerset from here. 7 year old and our dog very much catered for. Would absolutely return! 5 stars!

"One of those occasions when the reality is better than the photos!"
Beautiful cottage with modernised en-suite shower rooms, immaculate kitchen with all appliances and well-maintained garden. Great hot tub, checked and cleaned before every new booking and also during our stay. Very friendly and helpful owners live next door and were there to welcome us on arrival. Great location for local walks - and trips to North Devon (such as Exmoor) or South (such as Lyme Regis) are less than an hour. Wellington and Taunton, with all amenities, are only about 10-15 mins by car. Perfect stay!
Hi Joss, We are pleased you made the most of your stay, by exploring the local area. Best wishes Fred and Margo Property Owner

"A wonderful holiday home with exceptional relaxation powers!"
(The hot tub certainly helps). Fred & Margot are excellent hosts with a wealth of local knowledge. A very private, high quality property with beautiful woodland walks on the doorstep (hilly). Close enough to Lyme Regis for a nice day at the beach or Wells, Cheddar Gorge & Glastonbury. Great food available from local farm shops. Highly recommended.
Thank you Amanda for your kind feedback, It was lovely to meet you all and would agree the location has superb relaxation powers! Best wishes Fred and Margo Property Owner

The property
Garden View has a hot tub and rests in a lovely position surrounded by its own land in the lower slopes of the Blackdown Hills, just moments away from Wellington town centre, in Somerset.
This picture-postcard, thatched cottage provides ground-floor accommodation with extensive beautiful countryside walks from the door of the property.
With private parking on the large driveway and spacious gardens laid to lawn, it is the ideal location for two couples or a family looking to escape to the country.
Dating back to the 15th century, this Grade II listed property can be enjoyed at any time of the year and offers bundles of character to those who admire beamed ceilings and inglenook fireplaces within a charming farmhouse setting.
Allow yourselves to relax in the living room with the toasty electric fire warming your feet as you sip a hot beverage, just what you need after your journey and unpacking of bags.
Once you are settled, use the kitchen to rustle up some delicious meals to be had around the dining table or choose to dine out at one of the restaurants just a car’s ride away in the town.
You can catch your rest at any time during your stay in one of two bedrooms, each as beautifully decorated as the next, one with an en-suite wet room, while the other enjoys a separate shower room.
Perhaps, at the end of an adventuresome day, you may wish to relish the bubbles of the hot tub while you listen to the sounds of nature.
The nearest pub and shop can be found on the outskirts of Wellington town centre, in an area known as Chelston Heath, ideal for when you are staying in this lovely countryside location.
Wellington town however, offers many more things to do including a visit to its local museum or a delightful saunter through its park, which is home to restored Edwardian, landscaped gardens.
You could venture out to see the Wellington Monument of an afternoon or even take a trip to the Cothay Manor and Gardens in Stawley, a grade I listed medieval house built around 1480.
Culmstock Beacon is also a must while you are in the area and if you like taking a journey back through time.
This beehive-shaped structure was once used for lighting fires to warn of any advancing enemies during the Elizabethan era.
It is also a wildlife haven and offers mesmerising views across the English landscape, especially during those late summer months when the bell-heather is in full bloom.
Taunton is another beautiful town nearby with amenities galore as well as its charming Tudor architecture and a 10th century monastery to visit.
Those who love getting outdoors can enjoy the wilderness and tranquillity Quantock Hills can offer as well as walking and riding in the Blackdown Hills, with East Devon AONB also further south waiting to be explored.
There are also some wonderful seaside locations around 20 miles away if you fancy a coastal breeze to blow away the cobwebs and the sounds of waves crashing against sandy beaches.
Garden View is the ideal place to stay for a bit of everything, a fabulous destination to base your next getaway in Somerset.
Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.
