  • "Hello we have stayed at this site many times over the years and have nearly tried all the cottages due to their perfect location and the lovely swimming pool."

It was a little sad this time to see that the cottage was not as homely as our last visit and felt it should not be listed as a four star any longer as looking dated with need of some TLC replacements required ie fridge, sofa and flooring. Our only other comment/question which we would like to address to Sykes is now that covid is over why is the time entering the cottages getting pushed out ?? But the leaving time still remains the same … when we first used Sykes arrival was 12pm onwards now it is 5pm !!! Please can you confirm why this is ?

Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased to share with you our plans for the cottage, Columbine will be decorated in December, with flooring being re placed. There will be a change to furnishings, and soft furnishings. With replacement of white goods. We are hoping the cottage will be homely and beautiful after the changes. I am sorry you were disappointed this visit. All pillows quilts and bedding has been replaced recently. Knowing the cottage was going to be revamped at the end of the season. • "We have stayed at this site lots of times but first time in Columbine cottage."

The cottage inside was tired looking. The fridge freezer had rust patches on the front of it. Storage heater in main bedroom was hanging off the wall. Carpet was heavily stained and dirty. Had to hoover as soon as we got there. Moved the settee and found rubbish underneath it. Moved one of the single beds and found chewed gum stuck to the wall. Outside there were cigarette butts littered around. Toilet smell in main bathroom was overwhelming. The whole place needs revamping and was not worth the money we paid. Would not use this cottage again.

  • "The cottage was 'tired' and some of the kitchen equipment dirty."

All the cottages give the external impression of neglect which creates a poor first impression. Garden furniture was scruffy and the built in barbecue unusable. I had to phone to find the parasol - under the bed! The beds were uncomfortable, duvet cover torn and electric heaters old and poorly secured (safety?). Even the welcome pack was tatty and outdated, again giving a poor first impression. The swimming pool is excellent and the main redeeming feature.

Hello I was shocked and very disappointed by your review, as you can see from our previous revies the issues you experienced have never been noted before other than one review last year that the cottage was a little tired. I take all feedback back seriously and try to address it. The cottage gets decorated for the season. The cottage has a planned overhaul this autumn with decoration and new flooring etc.. The cottage has never been found to be unclean before with no reviews over the past three years highlighting this and all bedding is replaced yearly. I will take your comments up with the house keeping team and I will be visiting the site personally to review the cottage and discuss with the house keeping team. The cottage has only just been inspected by both electricians and fire brigade with new fire safety system and lights. I know the week you were with us it rained and you probably didn’t see the cottages at their best. Our gardener is planting consistently to keep the grounds nice. I am sorry that you feel this was your experience of the cottage and it didn’t meet your requirements. Kindest Regards Mrs Brock Property Owner

The cottage was very clean and having the use of the swimming pool on site was great. Good location and was quiet during our stay. We will definitely be returning soon.

. last year was great, however although the cottage was clean and well stocked with equipment etc. it had an overwhelming smell of ‘wet dog’ when we arrived. I think it had been shut up for a couple of days. We do not have a dog so probably noticed it more. The febreze had run out so we purchased our own.

Thank you for your feedback. It was lovely to have you stay again. I am surprised and disappointed that you found it not as you previously experienced. I have spoken with the house manager who informed me that because she had agreed to early access the cottage had not been aired and refreshed as it normally would have been after wet weather occupancy with dogs. I apologise for this and do hope to see you again. Kindest Regards Mrs Brock Property Owner

  • "We stayed in Columbine Cottage with 2 dogs and 2 young children."

The cottage was really lovely and as described although it didn’t have an enclosed garden so we had to take the dogs out to the toilet on lead. The decor is a little dated but was all very clean & there was everything we needed (including a cafetière for coffee as I always bring my own) the kitchen has everything you might need. The smart Tv allowed us to login to Netflix for the kids. We enjoyed using the pool and the kids swimming came on really well with swimming daily (they are only 4 & 5) - the pool was cleaned daily & well maintained with really nice changing rooms too. The park area was also really good - it’s a shame we couldn’t take the dogs in there while the kids were playing though as it’s a large enclosed area of grass so we could have exercised the dogs and the children together. (I will also say I do understand why they are not allowed although I think if nobody else was using it at the same time & dogs were cleaned up after it would have been nice) Overall though a really nice area - close to Bude & the beaches (only a 5 minute drive)

Hello, Thank you so much for your feed back, we will be organising a fully fenced area soon, as we appreciate people with dogs may need it closed in. I hope you also fo7nd the dog area across from the cottage where they can be off. So pleased you enjoyed the cottage and we will be redecorating shortly. Kindest Regards Joan Property Owner

Really well equipped, comfortable and well located cottage. Great surfing/body boarding and coastal walks in area. The swimming pool was a real bonus - a good size, warm and for us rarely busy. Separate note to owners not to be published: There are no longer superb views as trees have grown up. You should perhaps also mention there is an additional charge for laundry facilities. Otherwise thank you for a great cottage.

Thank you so much for your feedback we do take on board all comments and suggestions. The trees we have arranged for them to have them a hair cut, so hopefully that might help. In relation to the laundry service, we have had an honesty box which has not really worked and unfortunately we will be putting a debit card charger on the machines as some people have previously just left the driers running. However I will have this altered in the Boucher information. Thank you again for staying with us and we hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "Great location, loved Bude!"

Inaccurate description about cottage. Garden was definitely not enclosed, we had to put our well behaved whippett on a lead every time she needed to go out in garden, in case she spotted a cat, which she would of course chase. Misleading info about washing machine and tumble dryer. Not in the property. This was not a problem as very nearby. However the welcome from the lady, who I assume works on site, was less then welcoming. Not very helpful and started by telling me, Tuesdays were not a good day for washing as the machines are normally full, but allowed me to use a machine as not that busy! Generally unhelpful and not very friendly at all! Finally the shower in the cottage was pathetic! I knew it was going to be unreasonable to expect a power shower as states, hand held, but it was like an intermittent drizzle, which went from burning hot to cold. Reported this on the Tuesday, to the contact provided, advised they would arrange a plumber to check the pressure as not the only property with issues, never heard anymore again from anyone? No communication. The only saving grace were the showers at pool, but that all shut at 6pm, so if out later, no access to shower. All in all dissatisfied and would be jubious about any of your holiday cottage descriptions in the future! They say it's the little things and on this trip the little things really added up and made the cottage experience very disappointing.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for us. We do not advertise the garden as being enclosed, but the owner is looking to make this change soon. The description has now been amended to make information about the laundry facilities clearer. The housekeeper did not feel she had been rude and we can only apologise for how this was construed. The shower is the result of an ongoing problem with the local water provider, and is being investigated. Property Owner

Just a few items caused minor problems. There were notices in the accommodation that related to the covid restrictions period and contradict the current opening times, etc. of the pool and laundry, caused some confusion. The details rather gave the impression that the washing machine and tumble dryer were in the accommodation.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us, and we are pleased you enjoyed your break. I understand the management team had been given instructions to remove the previous information and signage, apologies that this hadn’t been done. we will ensure this is rectified.
