"We’ve been coming to Salcombe each year for nearly 40 years and 1 Orchard Cottages had everything we needed and more."
We had a pleasant welcome visit from owners Clive and Jackie who were also able to quickly resolve a couple of minor issues, plus they gave us a nice bottle of bubbly, which was a lovely touch. The rooms were spacious, and beds were very comfy. The outside space was also a perfect sun trap all day, right up until after 7pm. I’m already missing my morning coffee on the balcony overlooking Island Street. A perfect all round property for our small family. We’d love to return next year but sadly it’s currently not yet available. Please let us know if we can book!

A great location. We had everything we needed and more. Comfortable furniture and a great outdoor space. We were lucky with the weather. Bumped into the owner a couple of times during the week. Very attentive and pleasant. Came to check everything was ok which was really appreciated. We would love to return again next year.

2 parking spaces is a real plus point for Salcombe and accessibility to shops/restaurants and the Co-op exceptional. Every bedroom with its own en-suite is also a big positive.

"Everything about the property was wonderful."
Only thing that could have I.proved our stay was to have been able to park both cars in the parking area.
I m sorry thought there was a problem with that because there is plenty of parking for 2 cars . We only reserve a space behind the fence by the dustbin for ourselves for when we may need it otherwise we are very happy for 2 cars (& occasionally 3) to park there. The property is advertised as having 2 parking spaces. Always best though to back in as makes going out so much easier! Property Owner

"No 1 Orchard Cottages is comfortable, stylish and well-equipped."
It is well-situated being a level walk to the Co-op and all the facilities in Salcombe. What it lacks in a view, though pleasant enough, is compensated by the delightful courtyard. It was a luxury to have three en-suite shower rooms, an upstairs bathroom and a downstairs shower room! Also, the owner kindly left a bottle of bubbly which put us straight into holiday mood and was very helpful over the calor gas - thank you! We would book again next year but there are likely to be too many of us.

"Fabulous house, perfect for large families."
We had a wonderful week in Salcombe staying in this beautiful property. Ideal for larger families with young adult children as there is plenty of space for people to do their own thing as well as coming together. The only slight negative was no kerbside recycling and the lack of ability to self recycle anything other than glass and paper but this is probably a council thing - we didn't see many recycling points in the town either. The house's outside spaces are perfectly positioned to capture the sun - we were lucky with the weather!
Yes I m afraid the commercial waste contract that we have does not give any options for recycling. There is a bottle bank near end the creek carpark but that is it. But so glad the you liked the actual cottage. Property Owner

"We’ve been coming to Salcombe for over 35 years and this property was by far the best we’ve ever stayed in."
The house was immaculate, spotless, plenty of room and bathrooms for us all, a great patio and terrace area that was a real sun trap. And two parking spaces ( a rarity in salcombe). We had all the amenities that we needed and everything was top quality. Clive left us a lovely bottle of fizzy on our arrival and checked with us a couple of times whilst we were there to ensure we had everything we needed. We will definitely book this house again. Great downstairs space, lots of bathrooms, generous sized bath, and everything you need in the kitchen. We were very impressed with the wine fridge too!! Owners were lovely and very accommodating- thank you Clive and Jacky. We will definitely be back xx

Everything you need and more. We love Salcombe and visit at least 2 or 3 times a year and we think this is one of the best houses. Lovely Owners. Great walks, Batson Creek, North Sands, South Sands, always something new and different to see.

The information pack was useless, we left a brochure on Salcombe in the pack for future holiday makers. WiFi did not work for a couple of days and more instruction on how to use the fireplace remote control would have been helpful.
I m very sorry you were unhappy with our property. We , unfortunately, were away for a few days while you had issues with the Wi-Fi and remotes for the fires as we are usually around to help with these things. I can’t explain the lack of Wi-Fi but the remotes can be tricky - we will review our instructions. I also presume you mean an information pack regarding Salcombe. Kind regards Property Owner

"The owners kindly allowed us to stay with our two dogs and we had a great week at this holiday home."
The location was fantastic, so close to shops and pubs etc and no slog back uphill after being in town like many other holiday properties in Salcombe. It was so spacious too - bigger than we had realised from the listing pictures. Everything we needed was provided, really well equipped. Can't really fault this property and look forward to coming again hopefully!

As a group of 4 friends we all thought it was perfect. The owner came and said hello, which we've never had before, andwas a lovely gesture. The outdoor terraces are fantastic and a real suntrap, unfortunately the weather wasn't kind enough for us to use the BBQ which was our only disappointment!

"This was our second visit to 1 Orchard Cottages, and it was lovely that it was decorated for Christmas."
Everything was perfect, extremely clean, comfortable and cosy in the evenings. We enjoyed having the extra space and the outdoor area was great for the dog. Lovely homely cottage that we will certainly visit again.

Parking in Salcombe is currently a nightmare, so it was very handy to have our own parking space, but getting a big SUV into it was somewhat testing, reversing was definitely the answer. Somebody came in to change some batteries during our stay, it would have been nice had we be warned in advance, that said it might have been nice had Sykes made some face to face contact at some point during our stay..
Us owners were away but had been made aware that you were having problems so arranged for batteries to be changed and TV s to be checked to help with your stay. Backing into our parking area is THE best way although agree it does take a couple of manoeuvres but once in usually cars tend not to be needed again for holiday Property Owner

gas fire in lounge area did not work. both of the ovens dirty and cobwebs on light shades over dining table and skylights in the kitchen.

A little more attention to cleaning would have given the rating of exceeded expectations. Microwave was not very clean shower had some mould and cobwebs were missed. These are just minor issues but a bit disappointing. Overall a good stay.

We stayed at this accommodation last year and was excellent, this year standards have really dropped, cleanliness very poor, had various issues, that were dealt with when I phoned but should not have happened in the first place, all in all a disappointing second stay and will not be returning to orchard cottage if standards are not improved, as for the price we are charged we would expect better

Loads of space for everyone, five bathrooms for five people and showers that were wonderfully cleansing and refreshing. A safe garden for our small dog to sniff around and play in topped it all off. A beautiful property, but sadly it has now been priced out of our range or we would have jumped at the chance to book again for next year.

"This holiday was fantastic the cottage was everything we expected, Have looked for next year and unfortunately the price doubles therefore it would not be a cottage we would entertain at that price."
The damp in the upstairs bedroom needs attention and the kitchen equipment and a tumble dryer all needs improving for a charge of over 3k however that is feedback as a customer looking for a repeat booking. For this holiday this year and the price we paid it was great and we were very happy.
We are so pleased to read you enjoyed your stay at 1 Orchard Cottages however we were concerned to read that the price has doubled for 2021. We have had a look over the pricing and the same week in 2021 is currently around 5% more than 2020's price however, this is changeable depending on the time of year you wish to visit. Extremely spacious and airy property, well maintained and equipped despite COVID-19 restrictions. Best outdoor space of any Salcombe property we’ve stayed in over 5 years. Island Street can be noisy at night during peak season, but this location is excellent.

.and I must say this is the best house we have stayed in..really missed it when we left..actually it was more spacious than advertised...we always try to choose a house with parking this was advertised for 2 slight discrepancy when we arrived with the office..but there wasnt a problem and we both parked with no problem..would definitely recommend it.

"Despite seven days of rain we had an excellent holiday."
The house is large and well designed. There are five bathrooms all of which are in lovely condition.The beds are very comfortable and storage is very good.Parking in Salcombe is difficult so the fact that two large parking spaces are provided is a great bonus. The outside area in good weather would be another bonus. I would recommend this lovely house to anyone.

We were not expecting that. The cleaning could have been better with long term bird droppings on the upstairs french doors and dust where maybe there shouldn’t be but it didn’t detract from an enjoyable experience by all. There was a small mix up with keys not being available which could have been handled better but overall we are very pleased with everything. It is a great house in a fine position.

Salcombe is a popular destination for walkers and families looking for a holiday by the sea and was once a major port. There are two pretty beaches within a short distance, North Sands and South Sands and further on is the National Trust property Overbeck’s where you can wander through the subtropical gardens. Why not have a more adventurous day and try out the watersports available on the estuary including surfing, kayaking or a more leisurely boat trip?
