  • "Great location in Salcombe and overall the property was good and we enjoyed our stay despite some problems with the facilities i."

    E. both the hob and the clothes drier were broken when we arrived, although the hob was replaced during the week we were there and we received a small reimbursement for the inconvenience it caused. The general maintenance of the property was poor. For example, the front door hinges were rusty making the door stiff to open and noisy (we oiled the hinges); the gate at the top of the steps wouldn't open because of overgrown ivy making it dangerous to carry bags and receive food deliveries down the steps (we cut back the ivy); the fridge bulb was broken (we replaced it) and the fridge portion froze at the rear affecting the food; the benches for the dining table had loose and missing bolts making them rock and squeak when you sat on them and would have eventually collapsed (we tightened the bolts that were there). We also found that the property wasn't suitable for seven adults for two main reasons (i) the upper twin room had no storage for clothes and very limited room for suitcases and (ii) the fridge was too small to accommodate the fresh food required when eating evening meals in the property. We hope this constructive feedback helps and please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

  • "The property hadn't been cleaned on our arrival at 3pm."

It proved impossible to get through to Coast and Country or Sykes via telephone so we walked to the Island Street office. Staff were very apologetic and the property was cleaned by 6pm. We were however, pleasantly surprised by the decor and upstairs bathroom on arrival as it appears the on line photos have not been updated for several years. We were however disappointed with the level of equipment in the property. The glasses and crockery selection was poor for 7 people and there was no coffee machine, cafetière, microwave or even a hairdryer in any of the 4 bedrooms. We were also disappointed with the lack of a smart tv or bluetooth speaker. It didn't meet our expectations of a Sykes/C&C 5 star property that we have stayed in previously

  • "Absolutely loved this holiday home - the location is perfect!"

Clean, spacious, warm and welcoming, so we had a lovey blend of walks, meals out and then all on the couch for movies at the cottage. We were so lucky to have glorious weather mid Sept and the only thing we did miss was an outside space to sit and have a coffee in the morning (though there are plenty around the harbour). Many reviews mention the hill to the cottage and also the steps down the the main door. We agree that for people with small children, or anyone with walking difficulties this could be an issue. But we loved it - it was amazing for us!

Ticked every box for adults and kids. Great living space above bedrooms . We will be back thank you

  • "No microwave."

Modern world- why not. Also worried about not being able to open downstairs windows. In case of a fire this is a serious problem. On a warm night just uncomfortable.

  • "Great place to stay - felt as if we were one of the first."

Big, light, airy living room, beautifully finished to high standard, as are bedrooms and bathroom. Utility and WC/shower at front entrance very handy, too. No real view to speak of but so close in the centre (30 secs to Fore St!) that's not surprising. More than made up for by homely, clean, smart maisonette. There's even a good supply of loo roll and towels. Strangely no broom or dustpan and brush, too. Had to use vacuum cleaner. Sofa could be more comfortable and the electric hob has a mind of its own - like others we've encountered, it turned itself off when too 'hot' and wouldn't return which made cooking tricky! Great value by Salcombe standards and would definitely return.

For the size of the property the fridge is small . The downstairs windows would not open .
