  • "The property was beautiful and so central for the town."

The garden was perfect for the dogs. The only comment I would make would be to have an airer for clothes as not everyone likes to dry all clothes in a tumble drier. We will definitely stay there again

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Mayflower. Great idea for a clothes airer. Thank you! We will put one in. Looking forward to seeing you back again. Property Owner

We had a fantastic week at Mayflower, and the house was very comfortable and perfectly suited the 4 generations that stayed, a perfect garden for playing or sitting in the sun, a perfectly equipped kitchen and the bedrooms were very comfortable, I even got used to the hill

The only thing we felt would have improved our stay would have been if the garden got more sun! But that obviously can’t be changed. We would definitely book again as we loved the house and location!

  • "This is an absolutely beautiful property."

We loved the extended kitchen area and enjoyed sitting with a cuppa looking at the beautiful garden. The lounge is very comfortable and cosy. We found the TV more than adequate. It’s a very homely house with interesting and tasteful decor. Location is perfect. I can’t really fault it. Given the fabulous property I was surprised that there wasn’t a toilet roll in each loo and there wasn’t a sponge and J Cloth. I contacted Coast and Country cottages and we were then given a cloth and sponge. The welcome package was odd 2 tea bags 2 coffee sachets a packet of haribot sweets and no milk. Strangest one I have ever had! All that said I would recommend the place and the advantages far outweigh the little niggles.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are thrilled you loved Mayflower. We can only apologise the items mentioned above were not left in the property for you, we have spoken with the cleaner to ensure they are always left in the future. We are so pleased you have a lovely holiday, we do hope we can welcome you back to the area soon. Property Owner

  • "Property is lovely and spacious, although dark in places."

The only negative I can find is that for a property that size which sleeps 6 people, there is only one small TV in a small snug which would be tight for 6 people. The dining/sitting area is a large space which could do with a large TV as most people would sit out there, especially in the Summer when bi fold doors are open. No TVs again in any of the three bedrooms. This is something the owner could look at to make more comfortable. Also, no lamps in snug, only bright overhead lights.

Thank you for your feedback. We were really pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay at Mayflower. The owner totally agrees that the snug can be a little dark, especially in the winter months so they have added two lamps to this room, thank you for prompting them as this is really helpful feedback. The owners have purposely chosen to have a TV in the snug room only however they do appreciate this is down to individual preference. We hope to welcome you back to the area again soon. • "The property is comfortable and clearly a well loved home with lots of beautiful pictures on the walls."

We found the property a little dark in places (that maybe due to us being used to modern properties) but there are plenty of lamps in all of the rooms except the snug area (front lounge)where an additional reading lamp would be really beneficial. The modern extension at the back of the property is a beautiful light and bright space to sit, there is plenty of seating all of which is very comfortable. This really makes the property and the view of the garden is so lovely. If you have a dog with you the garden is ideal, secure and safe. We really enjoyed our stay, this is a very nice house.

  • "A spacious property, exactly what we needed for the 3 of us, offering us a bedroom each and a good location to walk into town."

The enclosed garden was ideal for our small dog. The area is very hilly and not ideal for those with reduced mobility or nervous drivers!

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are thrilled you loved the property. It really is in a great location, as you say close to the town and the garden is a favourite with guests. Salcombe lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which can sometimes mean narrower roads. The town has a naturally sheltered harbour formed by the estuary, unfortunately hills are unavoidable due to the nature of this remarkable setting. We do hope you had a pleasant holiday and enjoyed all the area has to offer. Property Owner

The location is ideal and fabulous that we could take the dog. Such a beautiful garden love the outside show to keep the sand away from inside. Thank you Angela

  • "A lovely holiday home - it had everything we needed for the week, plenty of kitchen utensils etc."

(maybe too many glasses!) and the whole space was fabulous. The house was very clean when we arrived, the beds were comfortable, some good local information left out... can't really criticise anything. The top-floor shower is quite tight but we could cope with that (I imagine it's difficult for elderly people to use), there is another on the 2nd floor though so not a big deal. The utility room is a useful space, the lounge and garden were perfect for our family to relax in. The parking space is quite tight (this was listed as only suitable for medium cars so that's fair enough) but actually we could just about fit our people carrier in which was a bonus. We loved the week in Salcombe and would absolutely wish to re-book the cottage... ...however that would not be through Sykes directly, they shamefully messed up our original booking meaning Mayflower was a late substitution (which obviously worked out well in the end). I'd recommend going direct to Coast & Country in future (they seem to share cottages across their two websites) - local office, friendly staff - and avoid Sykes.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your lovely feedback. We are thrilled you loved the property and that Salcombe, as a destination worked out well for you. We can only apologise that you had trouble with the cancellation of your original booking. We understand how stressful that must have been. We do hope that you will come back and visit us in Salcombe again soon. Property Owner

  • "We loved the downstairs space especially with the bi fold doors which really bought the outside space in."

We were lucky to stay in June where the weather was roasting and we made the most of the garden in the early evening for a drink before going out to dinner and also in the morning for breakfast. The downstairs lounge and dinning /kitchen area was perfect for us 4 people and 1 dog. The lounge would be a little small for 6 people and the TV is very small. Unfortunately my son ( who is 6ft 3 struggled abit with the height of the shower in the second bathroom and my partner who is 5ft 9 struggled with the even lower shower in the upstairs ensuite. However the bedrooms were perfectly comfortable . The blinds unfortunately did not stop much light streaming in through the windows from 5am but this would not be a problem if you are not light sensitive in the mornings. Overall a great stay with good location to the centre and for all the lovely walks in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Many thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. We are thrilled you loved the property, it is perfect for those balmy summer evenings. Many thanks for your comments on the showers, due to the nature of the house the showers cannot be lifted, we can only apologise that your son struggled slightly and will look to amend the web description. Many thanks for your other comments regarding the property, feedback is always helpful as we can then continue to improve our guests experiences. May we also thank you for leaving Mayflower clean and tidy on your departure, this is the first time the owners have rented their home out and had been nervous about doing so, but you helped to make it a good experience. We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday and we do hope to welcome you back to Salcombe soon. Property Owner

About the location

SALCOMBE

Kingsbridge 7 miles; Dartmouth 21 miles; Plymouth 24 miles; Paignton 26 miles.

Salcombe is a popular destination for walkers and families looking for a holiday by the sea and was once a major port. There are two pretty beaches within a short distance, North Sands and South Sands and further on is the National Trust property Overbeck’s where you can wander through the subtropical gardens. Why not have a more adventurous day and try out the watersports available on the estuary including surfing, kayaking or a more leisurely boat trip? Whilst staying in Salcombe you must take advantage of the locally sourced seafood which is served in many of the restaurants, pubs, cafés and delicatessens. The southern tip of Devon provides some spectacular scenery and picturesque vistas with a number of sandy beaches, lovely villages with thatched cottages and some fantastic opportunities for walking, including the South West Coast path.
For those that love getting active, what better way to explore Slad than on one of the many walkways, one of which is through the Laurie Lee Wood, recently opened by his widow and daughter spreads over three hectares. The Laurie Lee Wildlife Way is a beautiful 5-mile walking route, punctuated with ten poetry posts featuring the works of Lee, whose poems bring the surrounding landscape to life.

Three miles outside of Slad is the market town of Stroud. Labelled as the ‘Covent Garden’ of the Cotswolds, Stroud is a town in which you will find an eclectic mix of shops selling everything from fossils to fairies. As well as the town itself being a hub of culture and interest, a trip to London from Stroud will take just 90 minutes.
