  • "We had the most amazing stay , Raleigh house was perfect ."

Plenty of space, nice and cosy . Only parking for 2 cars, which was fine for us . Walking distance to the main centre . We will be coming back . Thank you, for making our stay one to remember.

  • "I marked maintenance down solely because the lights over the kitchen did not seem to work."

However it might have been us as we may have not found the switch or something similar. One of the bulbs in a bedside light blew while we were there and we reported that to the cleaner. That was no one’s fault. Otherwise excellent

...leave the property as we have found it" I replied to that email saying that I had to smile when reading that particular phrase - the reason ? - I think we left the property in a BETTER state than we found it. On two separate occasions during our stay I made contact with the "local" agents - Coastal and Something cottages - complaining on several cleanliness and hygiene issues - I am sure they will provide you with the details of the specific points I raised

  • "House was lovely and in a great location, however it was not clean when we arrived - dirty floors in the main house (my 10 month old daughter had black legs within minutes whilst crawling), dirty sinks and baths from what looked like suncream, dirty pans and microwave, dog poo in the garden."

There were no special touches either - having come from a much cheaper Airbnb we had expected the same touches like tea bags, sugar, coffee, oil, milk in the fridge etc. Given the cost of the stay, this would have been a really nice touch to have some sort of welcome hamper. Feels like because of the location and high season, the house is let out at a high cost just because people will pay it which is a shame. Gardeners arrived without warning - would have been nice to have a heads up as our daughter was sleeping and woken by them. Received a courtesy call from coast and country last thing on Friday as they were closing for the weekend which felt a bit lack lustre.

  • "Great property."

Our guests were impressed with the size of the rooms and each one having an ensuite. Also having a boot room was a bonus for all the boots and coats. Parking was good for four cars. Looking forward to the council installing a ski lift from the harbour......

  • "Lovely house and beautifully decorated."

Some basic facilities were missing though - some oven shelves were missing and the grill was not working. This made cooking for 2 families difficult, not really acceptable for the money we paid. House could also have been cleaner, whilst the bathrooms were clean the kitchen drawers, floors and sofas were all grubby and in need of a deep clean . Also , kids were disappointed that the trampoline was missing so it would be fair to future families if you updated the garden photo.

  • "This is our second time at Raleigh house and probably not our last!"

It is perfect for large groups. The bedrooms are all a really good size and there’s plenty of bathrooms! The utility room/garage is really useful for storing all the beach stuff. My only constructive feedback is that the house is beginning to look a bit tired in places, paint peeling off around doors, windows etc. Other than that it was a perfect stay!

To follow. The instruction motifs on the front are nearly worn away and the inside was very discoulered, the first impression at the front of the house was disappointing as it needs a clean around the door. Lots of bird muck on the windows which I appreciate you get at the seaside but it looks as if it had been there quite a while..

  • "As a family group we really enjoyed our stay over New Year."

The house is very contemporary and comfortable. The view from the back is lovely. The walk down into Salcombe is OK but the walk back up was too difficult for most of our group.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. How wonderful to spend New Year here with these beautiful views! We were sorry you had some difficulty with navigating the hill. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the town, a number of our properties are located at the top of these hills. We hope that aside from this, you visit was lovely and we hope to welcome you back soon. Coast and Country Cottages on behalf of, Property Owner

  • "Though this property was overall very good it would benefit from a safety assessment, please see below."

Point 1: on the upstairs landing there is an open plan balcony that drops to the ground floor just inside the front door with a large chair situated adjacent to it. We were so concerned one of our grandchildren could climb on the chair and fall over the balcony we removed the chair to the adjacent bedroom. Point 2: when entering the property via the side gate there are flagged steps down to the lower level with a 4 foot wall adjacent to the steps which allows adventerous children to get onto the wall, this would definitely benefit from a barrier to prevent access to the wall. Our 3 yr old grandson climbed along it and fell off, fortunately landing on his hip then banging his head badly.....could have ended so much worse! Point 3: the trampoline entrance was situated adjacent to the flagged steps stepping down to the garden. The same adventerous child whilst climbing up the steps to the trampoline on one occasion fell backward, fortunately twisting but face planting onto the flagged steps causing facial damage. Had he landed backwards with his head it could have been so much worse. I subsequently cut the ties securing the trampoline in position and rotated the entrance to the grassed lawn. Point 4: the hot water from the taps is exessively hot and could easily scald if not careful. Point 5: the wooden steps down from the outside balcony to the lower garden level would benefit with a small gate to reduce the risk of young children falling down. Also sone of the risers at the back of some steps were missing. Photographs of the injuries are available on request.

  • "Overall experience very good."

But no instructions for end of stay in Raleigh House. Had to ring help line, they were very good and told me to put linens in red bags. Also black bins were totally full from guests before us. So again help line sent someone to empty bins to enable our rubbish to go out. Would have liked recycling bins for cardboard and glass. Raleigh House was very spacious. Tumble dryer and travel cot in utility room. Beautifully appointed. Great to have a large trampoline for young children. Lower bunk mattress on lower floor a bit old. Child was uncomfortable on it. Lower floor bathroom not as luxurious as upper floors. We would definitely go again. Very friendly neighbours. Easy walk to Salcombe town. Uphill coming back but with children easy to break journey by a great park half way down. Spar for groceries less than a minute away. Thank you for our lovely stay.

Loved the decor and layout. Travel cot is there but needed to ring up to clarify, might have been better on the listing itself. Although there was plenty of space for the cot it would be wonderful to have better blinds (or blackout curtains as well?) as it got very light in the mornings, and there were a lot of windows.

My niece and her 2 small children were absolutely thrilled to be given the Master Suite and they loved the trampoline too. It was a bit of a downhill walk into Salcombe so we got a taxi coming back up when it was raining. The weather wasnt brilliant so on the good day we opted to go on the steam train at Buckfastleigh which was a huge success. We didnt have time for an estuary walk so we will definitely be back !!

The property

This tasteful property is located in the ever-popular Salcombe, in the heart of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A three-storey house that’s stylishly appointed throughout, it’s perfect for larger groups looking to spend some quality time together. From the driveway, the property’s entrance opens up into a small hallway, off which you’ll find the large, open-plan living area.

Oozing with charm and boasting views out over both Dartmoor and the estuary, this room includes a modern kitchen with all the mod cons you could ask for, a comfortable seating area and a dining table large enough to accommodate all ten guests.

And that’s not even mentioning the double doors leading out to the large balcony!

Also on this floor is a twin room with a pair of single beds and a shower room complete with rain-head shower. Downstairs, you’ll find the lower ground floor, which houses two additional bedrooms.

The first of these is another twin room, again with two single beds, whilst the second comes with bunk beds and a small sofa, making it the perfect spot for any younger guests to call home.

This lower level also comes with another family shower room. On the top floor of the property you’ll find the master suite – a luxurious bedroom with a super king-size bed, en-suite bathroom with a shower and a bath and even a separate dressing area.

There’s also a second en-suite bedroom upstairs, this time with a double bed and bath.

Both of these rooms come with stunning views out over the neighbouring countryside. Outside you’ll find the enclosed garden with its furnished terrace area, BBQ and a large lawn complete with trampoline.

With its enviable position in Salcombe, Raleigh House is just a short trip from the town’s countless pubs, beaches and shops, not to mention the stunning South West Coast Path.

Or you could always head down to the estuary and try your hand at some water sports with sailing, kayaking, surfing and paddle-boarding, all on offer. Raleigh House is the perfect place for your party to call home.
