"We had a fantastic stay at Westland and wouldn't hesitate to return."
The location is excellent – just a short walk into Salcombe, yet in a peaceful position with the huge bonus of private parking, which is a real luxury in the town. The outside terrace is a real sun trap and was perfect for relaxing in the afternoon and enjoying a BBQ after a day at the beach.
The house was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking family meals, and there was plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The bedrooms were comfortable, and our children loved the top-floor room. It's a great property for families.
Being opposite the park was another unexpected bonus for the children, and having two parking spaces meant we could leave the car behind and enjoy walking into Salcombe each day.
Overall, this is a lovely holiday home in a superb location that offers excellent value for money. We'd happily recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed family base in Salcombe and look forward to staying again.

"This property is in an awful state."
If we had not had a 7.5 hr journey to get there I would have gone straight home upon walking into a filthy house with health and safety risks. The decoration (which is in a very tired state) was not important to us but general cleanliness, power sockets that actually work, curtains that are not falling down and mattresses that are not ancient with springs coming up are very important issues for a comfortable stay in any holiday accommodation.
The house itself is really lovely and I’m sure was once a perfect holiday home but sadly it has been allowed to deteriorate significantly.

"Great outside space."
Well equipped kitchen.
Unfortunately the extractor and lights were not working and made the kitchen quiet dark.

"Positives, good to have parking, and have an easy walk into town, good outside area which caught the sun most of the day."
Kitchen is well equipped.
Negatives, the house is very tired. The vent in the sitting room needs a good clean as do the front windows. There were lots of ants in the kitchen and shower room, I did find and sprinkle some ant powder. It would be useful to have the instructions on what to do with bedding/towels, in the info folder left on sitting room table.

"A few minor niggles and suggestions:
1) A handrail on the steps from the road would be a good idea - it was difficult for my 93-year-old mother."
2) There were no spare toilet rolls and no kitchen roll. We had to nick a toilet roll from our friend in town to make sure we had enough. We were only four people, but if there had been seven it would not have been good!
3) Several bulbs were not working in the kitchen/dining area and the downstairs bathroom.
4) The fridge door is wonky and the fridge topples over if heavy things are stored in the door shelves.
5) The bathroom taps are wonky and difficult to turn, escpecially for a 93-year-old with arthritic fingers.
6) The downstairs bathroom fan in very noisy.
Thank you for your feedback on your short break over February half term. We will pass on your suggestion to the owners for their consideration regarding of a handrail on the steps leading up to the house. We are sorry there wasn't enough toilet roll, there should have been one full one per toilet, we have passed this onto the housekeeper to ensure enough is left going forwards. We will also ensure the lights are replaced where needed and have the fridge door attended to. We hope you had an enjoyable stay and hope to welcome you back to the area again soon.

"Our second year in this property."
A great location, with the bonus of terrace and parking. Sadly none of the issues have been addressed, the wet room is still pretty basic and it is frustrating that the bathroom has no shower. The master double is soft/ uncomfortable. The fridge is too small for a house this size. The issue with the drains was resolved very quickly, once the awful Sykes 'phone system had been negotiated.

"It is impossible for adults to sleep in the attic bedroom."
It would be useful to know anyone taller than 1.20m will struggle to get under the eaves. We had to bring the mattresses down to the sitting room. Great to have 2 parking spaces so near to the centre of town by using the garage.

"The property is well situated close to the town centre with the advantage of 2 off street parking spaces which were very useful."
The house has 2 large double rooms and bathroom on the first floor and a great kids room on the top floor which has 3 single bed and is equipped with some kids toys and books to keep them entertained. The ground floor has a large open plan kitchen and dining room with ground floor wet room and laundry with a separate lounge so plenty of space. Although not a large outside area, the outside terrace has plenty of seating and is a sun trap for most of the day and we made good use of the BBQ. It’s positioned opposite the local play area which was ideal for our two young children. The cleanliness off the house was good on arrival and we shall return.

"On arrival at the house, we were met by full waste bins."
The property itself was dirty throughout. There were cracks and damp patches in the ceiling in the kitchen and first floor back bedroom. Old furniture - some completely stained throughout – all in all very very very disappointing. We left two days before our check out as the place was so grotty.
We were very disappointed that you contacted us the morning after your arrival to advise that you were not happy with the standard of the property. We are sorry that Westland was not presented to our usual high standards.
As you know, the rubbish was removed for you as soon as you reported it, the cleaner was sent back to attend to all the points you raised, and our maintenance team also addressed other minor issues you reported.
As advised to you there was some water ingress due to the heavy rain prior to your stay, and the owner has since visited the property again with their builder as it was understood that this had all been rectified over the Winter when they did refurbishment works and upgraded several items in the property.
Despite this, we do hope that you enjoyed your time in Salcombe.

"Could not find the keys to the patio doors in kitchen dining area."
We tried all the keys there but none would open the door. Also thought coat hooks in the hallway would have been useful to hang coats on. Had to leave bed linen in the bath as no black bags to put it in when we stripped the beds x
Many thanks for leaving us your feedback. We were sorry to read that you had some difficulty with locating the patio door keys. We have notified both our housekeeping and maintenance team to have a good search. We are sorry for any inconvenience this caused to your visit. We do hope you were still able to thoroughly enjoy your visit to Salcombe.

"We arrived and collected the keys at 5pm to allow for enhanced cleaning, the house didn’t smell clean, there were areas of grubbiness around the house, we therefore spent 2 hours cleaning worktops and tables and chairs as we didn’t feel it was Covid clean."
We have taken some photo’s of the particularly bad areas and will be sending an email to head office.
We were very disappointed at the furnishings and tiredness of the house.
We are very sorry that you did not find Westland presented to our usual high standards, and disappointed that we were unable to rectify the issues raised during your stay as we were not made aware.
We have passed your comments on to relevant departments, and thank you for taking the time to bring them to our attention.
Once again we do apologise, and hope that despite this you were able to enjoy your stay in Salcombe.
