"We had a great stay at The Cottage, the property was well equipped and had everything that was needed."
The welcome pack was also a lovely extra! We thoroughly enjoyed the views and the use of the swimming pool. A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.

We really liked the property and location of it. Quiet and relaxing. The pool was great too. Thanks again Alan Ros and family

"We really enjoyed our stay at The Cottage."
Sue, the host was very friendly and welcoming as were her two dogs Poppy and Belle. The accommodation was very clean and perfect for our needs. The listing of the cottage on the Sykes website made no mention of some of the items that were provided so we ended up bringing tea towels, bath towels, and various other bits and pieces, so in that sense the property over delivered. The location of the property down a half-mile track was difficult to travel if you do not own an SUV. my sister's car struggled and scraped the underneath of the car trying to carefuly navigate the tracks. The listing should make this clearer. The cottage furniture inside and out was tired and is perhaps overdue replacement. The decking had loose boards and the reclining seats had rusted to breaking point. The tight wooden stairs down to the bedrooms were diificult to navigate and handrail was not present at the top. We requested a Stairway gate as our dog is not used to stairs but one was not provided/fitted. Our dog would have fallen down the stairs trying to follow us at bedtime so this was a big worry for us. The pool was excellent, warm and larger than we expected. Wer think with a few tweaks to the driveway lane to the cottage and to the furniture and stairs this would be 5 stars.

"Lovely cottage with everything you could need."

"Well where do I start?"
We didn't have the best of weather, but the cottage, the farm and Jon, Sue and family more than made up for it. We spent a wonderful week, walking the family farm dogs, Belle and Poppy, enjoyed the 6 farm cats making visits, my granddaughter was thrilled to be allowed to groom the horses, and we were just made to feel really welcome. Oh and I nearly forgot to mention the lovely indoor pool, perfect for our rainy days, and the generous welcome pack from Jon and Sue. We'd like to say a huge thank you to the whole family and hope to return again.

"We have just returned from a two week stay at The Cottage."
Sue and Jon were perfect hosts, being on hand if we needed them but also allowing us to really enjoy the peace and quiet that this location brings. We were able to totally relax which was just what we needed. The surrounding countryside provides numerous walks - both moorland, woods and rivers. Highly recommended is The Tors Inn at Belstone after a walk. We definitely plan to return to the Cottage - a wonderful holiday home.

"Fantastic cottage, just fantastic - thank you!"

"We can’t wait to come back!"
We had THE best week for our Easter break. We had shocking weather but that didn’t matter. The pool is fabulous and kept the boys entertained for hours. The cottage is beautiful and it felt very homely. The bed was a dream, like sleeping in a cloud! The farm is perfectly located and easy reach for all attractions and very easy to find. The most polite lovely young man Tom showed my boys around the farm and the horses etc. Belle and poppy are totally amazing and we even had tears that the holiday had come to an end and Belle wouldn’t be waiting on the step for them in the morning! Cannot recommend enough. Thank you!!

"We wanted a holiday with good facilities and in a remote location."
The Cottage more than ticked all the boxes. The icing on our cake was the exceptionally good weather we enjoyed during our week here. Relaxing and enjoying the cottage and farm was a holiday in itself, but the central location of Sampford Courtenay and nearby Okehampton, make it ideal to access many of Devon and Cornwall’s attractions. Belle the dog was lovely, as were Sue and Jon.

"Had a lovely holiday in The Cottage."
It was very clean and comfortable. It had all the kitchen equipment you would need to produce any kind of meal. It’s situated in a perfect position to explore both north and south Devon. We didn’t have very dry weather but the decking area is perfect for family Bar B Qs. Bell the farmers dog is gorgeous. Very friendly and visited us all the time. The long drive down to the cottage can be a problem if someone is coming up at the same time. There isn’t anywhere to pull in so practice your reversing. I would definitely recommend this holiday home to friends and family.

"The cottage was situated within a farm, which was peaceful and tranquil, the owners were very accommodating, helpful and very pleasant."
The cottage was full equipped from the kitchen to games for all to play. Loved the swimming pool. I would highly recommend a stay here.

"6 adults all family members stayed for a get together, fantastic time, peaceful and tranquil just what busy working folk need, jon and sue on hand if we needed them or had a question, the cottage was central to any area we wanted to travel to, brilliant time wished i had booked for two weeks."
absolute bonus was the very friendly dog and cats as well as the horses. truey a lovely holiday

"We had a great stay and absolutely loved having the pool every day!"
We would definitely reccomend to anyone :). Lovely cottage, really pretty and well equiped and even though the owners lived on the farm we very rarely saw them at all and when we did they were really friendly :) thank you

"Very comfortable cottage in nice situation."
A few ‘end of season’ issues for example bulbs gone in lounge and broken shower handle. The heating was a bit random in that some rads worked whilst others didn’t - especially downstairs. The wood burner however was excellent and to be able to buy logs direct from the owners was a plus. Being a working farm we didn’t want to trouble the owners with minor issues and on the whole a good stay. Especially loved seeing the farm cats and Belle the dog. Although we had booked to take a dog sadly our Lily had to be put to sleep before her holiday, (she was 14yrs) so we were happy to invite the farm pets in. Would recommend this cottage though a 4x4 (we have a Land Rover) is preferable due to the rough lane down to the farm. The pool was not ideal for a November stay being that it is located a short distance from the cottage with a cold shed in which to dress - this is not made clear in the details. Not to end on a negative though, the kitchen is extremely well equipped both in cooking utensils and crockery which made the self catering aspect very easy. On the whole I would recommend The Cottage for a good R&R break.
Thank you for your feedback, we have passed your comments to the owner who will look into having those minor points addressed. Property Owner

"Wonderful property."
Couldn’t fault a thing. The house itself was very cosy and well laid out. The Kids enjoyed the pool regularly and the dog had the time of his life! Being able to bring him was bonus enough but the driveway/garden area for the cottage to be so well secured was perfect to be able to let him out when needed! Location provide ability to get to wherever you like, north Devon coast (we went to westward ho!) in 40 mins or so and in 10 mins you can visit Belstone, a lovely village accessing great walks on Dartmoor National park. Post code only gets you so far so read the owners directions before hand and you’ll be fine. Will recommend this place to anyone.

"A beautiful home in a tranquil location - we had a great time being in the midst of the countryside yet it is also close to beaches and many fun things to do with the kids outside of this."
Our hosts couldn’t have been more friendly but also very discrete - none of our family time was disturbed but they were on hand for any questions. It really is a cosy retreat away from city life.

"Everything we expected from a farm cottage."
Peaceful, comfortable, and each room with en-suite bathroom. Lovely cats to come visiting and very friendly, a lovely funny young dog and fab horses. Within reach of many nice places and the lovely beaches of north Cornwall. Friendly and helpful owners Sue, Jon and family were all so lovely. Very good access to land around the farm within reason - we asked first. Lovely swimming pool to cool off in after a hot day. Lots of wildlife. Relaxing rural retreat with everything we needed.

"Very warm welcome & chat with Jon when I arrived, provided all info & stated thier door was always open if I needed anything or just to call."
Although the cottage is on an arable farm with the owners house below the cottage, which you walk past to access the lovely indoor pool, I rarely saw or heard them, the majority of the time the only sound was the birds I wanted a peaceful retreat & that was exactly what I had, I wasn't disturb in any way. It was 6days before I saw Sue as she rode past the top garden with a very cheerie & friendly salute. Both Jon & Sue couldn't have been nicer & although very happy to chat with their guests they are equally happy to leave you alone. The Cottage is very well equipped, maintained & homely. The large terrace with its immaculately clean gas bbq & lounge chairs along with table & chairs is the perfect place to relax & with no obstruction it catches the sun all day. The cottage had everything I needed including washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, all towels etc etc & most importantly after a long drive, tea, coffee, sugar & milk. The open WiFi reached all parts of the house & for those days when the weather isnt favourable there is an abundance of books, videos & some games both in the cottage & the utility area. Sky TV is provided with the opportunity to sign into your Netflixs account etc I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the cottage not only for summer months but out of season as well, it would make a very cosy & comfortable winter holiday home & one I very much hope to return too. Thank you Jon & Sue for a perfect stay.

"The Cottage had everything we could need."
Tea, coffee, sugar, and fresh flowers for our arrival was kind and thoughtful. Towels and toilet roll, another thoughtful touch. Kitchen is more than well-equipped for cooking and baking. Use of the owners pool and a small summer house for changing purposes, was fantastic. The peace and tranquillity was beautiful. I was lucky enough to see deer, and the friendly farm cats and dog who came to see us each day. The owners are welcoming and respectful of privacy. This truly is a gem in the countryside and we would be extremely happy to return.

"Such a delightful place to stay."
My thirteen-year-old grandson commented that it must be a wonderful place to grown up. I have to agree. If it's 'getting away from it all' that you're looking for, then look no further. I've just recommended it to my friend in Switzerland, who often comes over for hideaway holidays. The facilities are excellent and of course, the heated indoor pool is the jewel in the crown. Sitting out on the sun terrace, all you can hear are the birds. Also, plenty of local small businesses worth a visit for cider and ice cream, plus a very welcoming pub in the village serving super food.

"The property was fully up to expectations, although clearly subject to Covid-19 conditions necessitating minor changes."
There was a warm welcome from the hosts ( and their pets). The standards of accommodation were high throughout and any reported faults or problems were quickly dealt with. It should be clearly borne in mind that this is a working farm and care must be taken when moving around the site. The half mile long driveway was a bit rough unless driving a 4x4.

"We had a lovely stay at the cottage, it was very well equipped and comfortable , a very lovely cottage which could not be faulted."
The only disappointing thing was the swimming pool, it was perfect for young children but not deep enough for adults.
-
"We had a lovely week at the cottage."
It was spacious and well equipped. The owners and their family were very friendly and helpful.
-
"The location is idyllic, very peaceful."
The owners live nearby and are very friendly and at the same time allow their guests their privacy.
-
"The cottage was cosy and would go back."

"This is a lovely cottage in a private and exceptionally quiet and peaceful location."
Everything was very clean and the accommodation was perfect for our family of four - 1 adult and 3 teenagers. We are big home cooks and the cottage was amazingly equipped with everything we needed to cook all our meals in the cottage. We visited Lydford Gorge (amazing), Becky Falls and went riding on the moors from Cholwell Riding Stables. We were also able to visit Okehampton Show which was perfect for our farm/horse mad teenager. We wanted to have a cottage with its own pool and it did not disappoint - lovely and warm and much used by us all. I think it should be made clear that the swimming pool is not attached to the cottage but in a separate building. It should also say that the pool cover needs to be taken off and on - if the children had been little - like they used to be - I would have struggled to do this. I'm not complaining !! The pool was lovely but I was relieved they were old enough to help. The cottage had a lovely welcome package which was very much appreciated after a long drive. Thank you for having us, we loved it.

"Very comfortable cottage with lots of pots and pans, great crockery and cutlery."
Swimming pool perfect temperature. Lovely countryside and an excellent location to explore Dartmoor. Bluebells near Meldon Quarry exceptional at the end of April when we visited.
-
"A fantastic cottage - very well equipped and a lovely home-from-home for the week."
It was an extremely peaceful and enjoyable stay! Highly recommend :)
-
"A very nice cottage, the drive is long and a little rough, but well worth it for the views of Dartmoor from the patio, The pool is in a barn across the yard but is warm, and a great swim in late October, Beds are great, lounge large, kitchen has everything you could need, champagne and pint glasses!"
An hour from Port Isac, an hour from Croyd, an hour from Beer, so very central!! Great star viewing as it is full dark!! at night. Great bird life from Wrens-Buzzards. A great break away from the bustle of modern life.

"The information about an enclosed terrace garden is a bit misleading."
With two dogs, we had thought it would be a bit more than the terrace from the living area for them to use.
-
"Totally relaxing and very peaceful."
Cottage was very comfortable and clean. A very informative booklet, great walks with lots of nature including deer. The swimming pool was a great added bonus.
-
"Fab peaceful cottage with lovely verandah and relaxing pool."
