"We had a wonderful stay at the cabin."
..could not ask for more , there was everything to hand we needed , very comfortable bed and really clean.... the owners were very helpful through a powercut and supplied logs , beautiful surroundings and very tranquil...highly recommend this wonderful cabin stay .

"The property was in a good location."
However the property itself did not end up being what we hoped. The property was not very clean at all, there were dead bugs by the kitchen sink, and we even found one in our bedroom drawer. It was very dusty, one of us is asthmatic and was coughing and sneezing throughout the stay. As we arrived, we noticed that the property smelt of cigarettes and wet dog. We appreciate that it is a dog friendly property, but as people who have grown up with dogs, we know this smell can be controlled. We had half a toilet roll to last the week, and this inevitably run out, we had to buy our own, along with our own hand soap. The hot water ran out and resulted in cold showers. There were no curtains in the kitchen/living room area; we felt very exposed and as we were staying on someone’s property and there were people walking around the land. This was very uncomfortable for us.

"Lovely cabin, really enjoyed our stay - the only thing I would note is that there is no curtains / blinds in the kitchen area which would have been nice, although on saying that we barely saw anyone at all (which is exactly as we wanted it)."
Lovely fire and a peaceful getaway.

"Very basic."
No hanging space no coffee table. Kitchen utensils sparce. Great location.

"Lovely relaxing break with nothing but nature around you."
Cabin had everything we needed and the log burner was perfect for the chilly evenings and the dog loved it too. Saw many birds, foxes, bats and even a deer one morning. The perfect week for pure chilling out and even had a go at fly fishing however didn't catch anything will try again one day. Great hosts who work very hard to keep the grounds perfect.

"Very peaceful stay."
Beautiful surroundings.

"This cabin is in the most peaceful and tranquil rural setting and is teeming with wildlife so bring your binoculars and download the free app Merlin ID for all the bird calls you will hear!"
We ended up sometimes abandoning plans to go out just to sit on the porch with the dogs and soak up the atmosphere. In the evening, the wood burner was always on the go, creating such a cosy cabin. The cabin is well stocked with kitchen equipment, which has all the basics. The shower is good as well. The host gave us a fly fishing lesson as well (tackle kindly supplied by the host). This cabin is the most perfect place to get away from it all and ‘switch off’ for a bit, in fact we cannot recall ever having had a more restful holiday.

"We found the Log Cabin very spacious, clean, comfortable and very well equipped."
We were there in May but with the Log Burner and electric radiators it was very cosy and warm. The surroundings are lovely and well maintained. The fishing was very productive on wet and dry flies and although as usual for some periods the fish were quiet in the main changing flies and trying to keep an eye on the hatch paid dividends. If youre flexible on dates, definately use the search by property number at the top left of the Sykes website to look at availability as its a lot easier. Rob the owner was very helpful in all matters and accomodating to any requests. We will be going there again i'm sure. :-)

"Lovely peaceful setting and very helpful owner"
-
"We expected rustic in a log cabin but would of liked comfort as well."
The 2 single mattresses were very lumpy and uncomfortable. The settees were so low it was difficult to get out of them. There is no lock on the toilet door. The wood burner took a lot of effort to light with no kindling wood supplied. Then when we did get it going there was no glove or anything there to open the very hot door with to make it up!!. A description of the cabin would be "tired and in need of some TLC"
-
"Nice, peacefull and quiet place to chill out."
Plenty of walking opportunities. As it is Trout farm you can order fresh fish which tastes delicious. Owner very friendly and helpfull.
-
"We have stayed here before and were so happy to come back again."
The log cabin is in such a beautiful location and while there was no Internet or phone signal, for us it gave us a greater sense of escape! We had everything we needed and the owner was very attentive when we needed him but otherwise let us enjoy our time. A great place to rest and enjoy a break
-
"Beautiful cabin with a beautiful view."
Fully equipped with all needed in kitchen. Owners were friendly and left you alone to enjoy your holiday. Would definitely return again.
-
"Generally great stay, the place was lovely set aside a woodland and plenty of walks for the dogs."
The single mattresses' need to be replaced, and the pictures need to be dusted, apart from this the place was ideal for a quiet weekend away in a log cabin with open fire.
-
"We really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and the continuous sound of nature."
We didn’t go for the fishing, just a bit of seclusion and the cabin certainly provided some peace and quiet. It is back to basics and tech free but that’s what we wanted. Comfort, the log burner, and of course bringing our dogs was a real treat. Don’t expect “Boutique hotel decor” it’s a log cabin, (dogs holiday there too) but do expect beautiful views, near by days out, chocolate box walks, followed by comfort, warmth from a roaring log burner, everything you need in the kitchen, cleanliness and our friendly host Rob was really welcoming. Thank you for having us. We will be back!
-
"Mr Snaith was very welcoming and helpful."
The cabin has superb views , a pleasure to wash up and cook, in the well equipped kitchen. It was January so the woodburing stove was lovely and made the lounge area very cosy.
-
"Had a great time very peaceful and wonderful surroundings"
-
"Property was in peaceful location."
It's was clean and tidy. Best shower easy to work plenty of pressure and hot water. Only problem we had with damp weather the last 2 days of holiday. We occurred having more flies, and insects in place. After I give kitchen and bath area good bleach down day before we left the flies etc stayed outside not in. Water pressure on kitchen taps not very good.
-
"Fabulous, quiet location."
Sitting outside listening to the birds and the water was beautiful. Not having the Internet is a real plus. My dogs had a fabulous time snuffling around in the bushes and the trees. Yes the Lodge is a bit basic but you have everything you need and the heating system is excellent. Lovely stay.
-
"Great place to stay , very beautiful and calming."
location is fantastic for visiting nearby beaches
-
"Location was lovely if a little challenging to get to."
It was all good except the lower bunk bed mattress which you could feel the springs in your back (way past its sell by date) otherwise only omissions were hairdryer and kitchen scissors.
-
"What a lovely couple of days surrounded by nature, just what we needed."
The cabin is simple but full of charm. And the best thing, there is no signal or internet! It is surrounded with amazing walks and many sites to see a short drive away. The owner Rob was lovely and gave us many tips to explore. The only downside was there were no basic condoments like salt, pepper, oil but a village shop only 5 mins away so wasn't a problem really. For sure would recomend this to anyone who is looking for a truly relaxing break. Thank you :) Aiste and Jason
-
"Whole family loved the stay, one of the most peaceful places I have ever stayed would highly recommend and Rob is more than happy to help out any way he can."
5stars all the way.
-
"Fabulous little gem of a place!"
Lovely for a few days away, quiet, relaxing and just what I was looking for. Would highly recommend and can't wait to get back but for longer this time.
-
"Just returned from a week's stay, had a wonderful time, our dog loved the freedom, a thoroughly relaxing time , can't recommend enough , will definitely return."
-
"Property was very dirty and smells of damp, a lot small than expected and needs a complete restoration to bring it up to suitable standards, outside was also very different to the photos, no real space and shared with everyone, no walks from the door which was the main reason for booking, we only managed three nights before leaving, owner was very rude too as we arrived 15 minutes early and he told us to go away and come back later, no firewood and the property was freezing as only had two electric radiators in the property."
-
"Me, my partner and our dog had the perfect long weekend here."
Place is picturesque and even if you’re not keen fishers like us. There’s so much to do and explore in the area. The no mobile signal is true and creates a much better atmosphere, would definitely come back again.
-
"This is the most perfect location for an escape from the rat race of life."
The lack of mobile reception and internet meant no interruptions from people who don't understand I am on holiday. The living room was spacious with two two seater sofas and the kitchen whilst basic had everything you need to be able to cook anything from a roast dinner to baking a cake. The dog loved the outside space so he could play catch with his ball.
-
"Just spent a week at the cabin with my 2 labradors, it was a fantastic base for exploring the beautiful coast and countryside of Devon and Somerset."
The cabin was perfect and very clean and the surroundings are so relaxing, it really is a lovely place. The owner is a really lovely man and very helpful, every evening I lite the wood burner (you can buy wood from the owner) it was so cosy and a real delight to have in the cabin. I would definitely stay again and maybe next time try a bit of Trout fishing. Thank you for a perfect stay.
-
"The cabin was the perfect rural retreat."
We are a family of four (2 adults 2 young boys) and used the cabin a base to explore the area. The fishery and grounds are a really lovely place to be to get away from everything. The owners are really friendly and accommodating to. The cabin was clean and well stocked with bedding and towels. The beds are comfy,The kitchen was also well stocked with all utensils you could need. Dogs welcome which is a bonus! Overall I would return and recommend. There isn't any phone signal or WiFi but that's not a problem if you wany to get away from tech. My boys were a bit fed up with that aspect by the end however it was great to get the board games out and have some quality family Time. (We took our own boardgames) there are quite a few dvds and books supplied to if you,re stuck for entertainment,

The cottage was lovely all I wud say is it cud do with a little up lift as in decor however the place was beautiful and the scenery was beautiful if your type of holiday is remote and just relaxing this is for you and I would deffo go bk

"Lovely comfortable property in an amazing setting - so peaceful, lots of wildlife , host very friendly but descrete , went above and beyond to help us after we had a car crash, made my sons day by letting him feed the fish and even hold one."
Thank you
-
"Beautiful rural retreat in a picture perfect setting."
Owner was helpful and discreet. Facilities were basic but functional and this was part of the appeal. A couple of points for future guests to help get the best from their stay: bring everything you think you will need including toilet paper and hand soap. Note for dog owners - make sure your dogs are up to date on their tick treatment as due to the woodland and grassland ticks are rife in the area. Also be conscious of the electric fences round some of the pools.
-
"Lovely log cabin, well equipped, clean and so peaceful"
-
"Exactly what we wanted."
Log cabin as described. Room to move and relax.. Warm. Quite. Teaming with wildlife, fox owls buzzard, heron, squirrels etc didn't see the otter though. . Beautiful picturesque. Friendly host. Thanks for the 1st night logs. Easy access from M5 Near to friends we were visiting. And only 1/2 hour from the coast.
-
"Basic but clean, shower was fantastic, plenty of logs provided for log burner and very peaceful setting."
Disappointed that there was no view from inside the cabin, but wrapped up warm and sat on veranda to enjoy the surroundings. My fault for coming in March, if I come again I'd do it later in the year.
-
"Great little spot and walks."
Good to get "off grid". The owner was super helpful!
-
"Great place to stay Lovely surroundings peaceful."
Only problem was Devon power company not set up to sort out after the storm, so had to cut short the stay due to no power !! This is not a reflection of the owners they done all they could.Maybe next time in the summer would be better .
-
"This is a great get away for anyone wanting to relax in a authentic log cabin, to get away with no reception."
The log cabin is just that, don’t expect to go to a log cabin and a completely modern tech experience, it is a very back to basics stay but that’s exactly what we were after so we could spend the days exploring and the evenings in reading by the fire. a lovely big wood burner and can pick up more wood if needed. The bed is very comfy, the sofas are a little warm but do the trick. It was cold when we stayed but we brought blankets and walking boots and water proofs ready for the weather. If you do want reception you can get it if you walk slightly down the drive. Sidmouth is a nice seaside town not to far away and Honiton good to go for restaurants.
-
"Both I and my daughter enjoyed our stay at the log cabin as we used it for a base to explore the area of Devon that we hope to move to."
We had to bring our two dogs with us, but we don’t recommend it as a place to bring pets or young children to for a holiday. It’s ideal for a fishing holiday. Regards Maureen and Julie

"Very enjoyable, clean and comfy, will defenitely book again in the future."
-
"The furnishings were very outdated."
They looked and felt like they had been in there for 50 years. The sofa looked like it was second-hand to start with and was not comfortable. The sheet for the duvet was practically threadbare and had poppers missing at the bottom. The bunk bed was very unstable and visibly rocked when climbing to the top. The shower's drain didn't work well and so your feet would be in a constant puddle. We did alert the owner to this who came and did something which helped a little. The windows had not been cleaned for a long time and so obscured the view when looking out of them. The description of the log cabin's location in relation to the trout lake was very misleading. The log cabin does not lead onto the trout lake at all, but two nursery ponds with a high wire fence surrounding them. It also said that you could walk in the woods behind the cabin, however the woods were inaccessible from any place at the location - we looked thoroughly. We expected there to be paths into the woods where you could go for a walk, but to access the woods with safe parking, was quite a drive away and not at all the woods on the location. There were also two other holiday accommodations on site which was very surprising as there was no mention of the other accommodations in the description. One of the other accommodations did face the trout lake and have the woods behind it and felt more like the description for the log cabin, and so was disappointing to feel we had been mislead. The cleanliness was the worst part of the stay. We found previous people's possession's in the drawers and rubbish under the bed. There was a mouldy banana skin in the bread bin. I called to ask the owner if they had bbq tongs, which he assured me he did, however there were none provided and the knives were so blunt their blades were rounded and did not cut through anything.

"No WiFi at all which didn’t go down with the youngster !"
Very peaceful setting. Lovely walks around the area for the dogs. Garden area could have been fenced in to keep the dogs away from the hens. Sofas were a bit low for our old Knees. We didn’t realise it was so far away from the main road and the access road was very narrow. We enjoyed watching the trout being feed and moved.
-
"Such a beautiful place and the owners were lovely."
Would definitely go again.
-
"This location and cabin was a perfect quiet relaxing location, which was exactly what we were after."
-
"If you want to get away from everyday life, this is perfect ."
Just make sure you stock up on food, as the nearest shop is 3.5 miles or 7 miles away.
-
"The photo's for the cabin or the location do not do this little haven justice."
The drive down is beautiful, you feel like you are leaving the world behind. The dense tree cover is comforting and embracing and once within the cabin, I could have stayed there forever.! If you are after peace and quiet, no phone signal and a place to reset, relax, read and just "be" this is the place to come. The family, where friendly, welcoming and attentive. I did not partake with the fly fishing, but I did sit and admire the gentleman using the beautifully clean lakes. I, with my dog, maximised the walking options from here - breath-taking, both literally and figuratively (you need to be a mountain goat for some of the roads hahah). I will be back :)
-
"It was OK I can’t complain, owners didn’t greet us nor ask if everything was ok."
The place was beautiful and the area was lovely. Nothing local, had to drive to everything but the peace was great It was lovely to watch the fish jump in the ponds Got attacked by a bat on the last night, can’t really moan about it that’s the country isn’t it
-
"After our teenagers had had weeks in lockdown and as myself and my husband are keyworkers we were looking for a break and a change of scenery."
The Log Cabin did not disappoint! A bit off the beaten track, the cabin was in a beautiful location and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The owner and his family could not have been more welcoming. We will definitely look at staying again in the future.
-
"Nice little break away from it all, the log cabin is what it says it is, a log cabin."
That said I have to say that Rob and his wife have the place to a very homely and comfortable standard. Myself my wife and 2 grown up grand daughters spent a week there and would have been happy to stay another week. If there has to be a downside, it is that the very narrow road leading down hill to the fishery can be a little challenging, but that’s not going to change anytime soon so give it a go, but keep an eye out for oncoming traffic and be prepared to reverse. Phil W.

"We had a wonderful few days at the log cabin despite the weather."
The kids and the dog enjoyed exploring and the grounds were absolutely stunning. Mr. Snaith was a fantastic host and made us feel very welcome indeed. We will definitely be returning.
-
"Previous reviewers were right, the photos don't do it justice."
It was a lovely log cabin that was well laid out... The fire is amazing and makes the place so cosy. There is no interenet or phone signal so is a real retreat from the world, but the cabin has everything you need. I loved sitting on the deck watching nature even in the rain The road in and out is very steep but you soon get used to it and is worth it for the tranquillity of the place. The owners were lovely and on hand if you need anything. Would definitely stay again
-
"The cottage was in a beautiful, peaceful setting and comfortable & well-appointed."
The owners were really friendly & helpful and made us feel very welcome, with freshly-baked scones and flowers on arrival. We also really enjoyed having great trout fishing on our doorstep, with on-hand advice from the owner when needed and he also kindly lent us a rod for the kids to try. We had a great stay and would love to return again.
-
"The Log cabin was very difficult to find following owners' directions."
It was in a very nice setting and there were fresh flowers and a cream tea as described in other reviews. The inside of the cabin was very dark and gloomy compared with the sunshine outside. The sofas were old and saggy and not at all restful, and all the bed linen was very tired and pilled. I slept in the double bed which was fine, but my friend slept in the tiny claustrophobic room with the bunk bed which was extremely hard and uncomfortable. Utensils were adequate but basic (no spare loo roll!). The TV was small and lost reception regularly. The cabin might be an 'adventure' for a young family but was a disappointment for two active pensioners! We never saw our hosts, but left a day early putting the key and note in their letter box. Our two dogs were quite content with the break, even if we were disappointed.
-
"Lovely location."
Cottage has everything you need. Owners leave you to enjoy your holiday without interference. A lovely welcome of scones, cream and Jam in the fridge.
-
"Lovely peaceful location and friendly host."
Just the ticket for a 'get away from it all' sort of break. Highly recommended.
-
"We stayed there as a family and it's a pitty there weren't more pics as the cabin is a perfect get away if you want to get away from it all."
We loved it there so we're booking it again as can't wait to see everything in bloom. You can even sit and watch the fish jumping in the ponds from the veranda which is also lovely on an evening. The cabin has a real rustic feeling which was lovely with old wooden doors, the owners are lovely but we were really made to feel welcome with fresh flowers and proper Devon scones with jam and cream waiting for us. Roll on next time we're too as can't wait.
-
"This is the 6th time we’ve been to stay at the Log Cabin."
My boys love it.
-
"The photos on the website do not do this accommodation justice."
The log cabin was gorgeous and the beautiful surroundings even better. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.
-
"The Log Cabin was lovely."
A great base for exploring Devon. Host was available but not intrusive and very helpful. Fresh flowers and cream tea on arrival was a nice touch.
-
"Log cabin had everything we needed for a great holiday."
Clotted cream scones and jam on arrival were great. Even had a pot of fresh flowers on table which was a nice touch. Kitchen is well equipped with every thing you need. Wood burner means you could visit out of season. Being a log cabin holds heat well. We loved the log cabin and will definitely return, watching the wildlife outside was great. We saw herons, an owl, a dear , an otter, a fox and a mixture of wild birds. Looking out onto the lake was great. Photos on website does not do it justice, really cosy inside. Would recommend.
-
"The cabin itself was nice although the fire needed a good clean."
it is set on the owners property but we didn’t see them much at all. the main downside was we were or certainly seemed to be miles from anything else, we drove everywhere and the road surrounding are very narrow. if you like quite and secluded this is perfect for you it was just a bit to rural for us.
-
"Really relaxing, peaceful area by trout lakes and a forestry area."
Could see myself living there the. I had a virus 2 days before our getaway so i did spend tge first couple days nursing that so I didnt get the full potential out of our break but the kids and our 2 dogs did. Would love to return to the same cabin in the near future.
-
"It was exactly how we expected the cabin to be , set in a beautiful valley surrounded by the forest , owner was there when we arrived and was friendly and helpful, they had left us some delicious scones to enjoy which was a lovely gesture, we enjoyed the peace and quiet and even saw a baby deer outside the cabin on several mornings, our dog loved the freedom to explore outside ."
All in all a lovely place and we had an amazing weeks holiday , so thank you x
-
"Very good value accommodation."
Internal space larger than expected from picture. Good if you want to get away from phone, WiFi or 4g communications. Cream tea on arrival very thoughtful and welcome.
-
"The Log Cabin provided a quiet and peaceful base set on this attractive trout farm."
You really felt at one with nature here. Deer and Kingfishers shared our surroundings as well as the fly fishers patiently hunting that elusive trout.
-
"It was very nice solitary we werent bothered at all"
-
"We had a lovely time with the feeling of privacy within nature listening to the birds all day long which was lovely."
It is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. We felt totally relaxed and it is a great place if you are taking dogs. The cabin had everything you required and had all the space you needed. Definitely a great holiday destination.
-
"I thoroughly enjoyed my recent stay at the log cabin."
The suroundings were very peaceful and quiet. The Cabin itself is far enough away from the other buildings that you have your own sense of seclusion and privacy. It has a covered veranda so you can sit out when the weather is good, and if the weather is bad then there's the ideal opportunity to have a log fire (logs etc provided). The kitchen has everything you would need - the owners even supplied me with fresh scones on arrival! I enjoyed walking around the grounds and fishing lake. Would definitely go again.
-
"Really lovely place to stay."
... the owners were there if you needed anything but left us to enjoy our stay ... very nice people. Would recommend... very relaxing... our dogs had a great time too.
-
"Beautiful surroundings around a beautiful cabin."
The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating. I would definitely consider booking the cabin again.
-
"We love it at the log cabin we’ve been back 5 times now and just booked for the 6th time our boys love it."
-
"Beautifully rural location."
Great area for walking and relaxing.
-
"Great place to holiday with dogs and perfect location for a rest."
The owners are really helpful but at the same time respectful of your holiday time. Have been before and will definitely return.
-
"Really enjoyed our stay in the log cabin."
Stunning scenery, very friendly owners. Would recommend it to anyone.
-
"Second time staying here."
Perfect for a relaxing holiday. Great woods to walk the dog. Very spacious cabin with friendly owners.
-
"The log cabin was an 'away from technology' dream."
No Wi-fi, no mobile signal, barely any television reception. So, if you're happy to read, walk, have squirrels, buzzards, bats and owls share your space, this is the holiday for you. We loved it, the dogs loved it and it's close to lovely Honiton, Beer, Lyme Regis and Sidmouth. The only downside is that the cabin was constantly in the shade, which is probably great in hot weather, but we missed out on the autumn sunshine,. No matter though, the wood burner was bright and cosy in the evening.
-
"This was our second time staying at the Log Cabin and we will definitely be returning next year."
