  • "This is a well equipped cottage, situated in a quiet village."

The cottage felt warm and cosy, and appeared in good order. It's location is excellent for exploring, suitable for both young and old, the many attractions which are located within a 30 mile radius. The only downside, which obviously the owners have no control over, is the access by car. The cottage is on a lane which is very narrow and twisty, and provides a challenging drive, especially if you have a large car.

Not great. Grubby in places (cutlery, chopping boards dirty/smelly, dirty shower screen, taps, blinds). Only one of the two singles was made up, yet advertised sleeping for four. Lack of privacy in lounge - no curtain/blind over glass door looking in. Broadband feed is shared by ethernet with neighbouring property, causing speed issues and security concerns. Advertised as with garden/patio but is shared access with another property, tiny so unusable. Parking tight, but fine for our small Fabia. Double bed is metal-framed both ends, felt hemmed-in. Both bumped our heads going into the kitchen. Had to replace batteries in two remote controls. Batteries dead in two out of the three clock. Chard and Tamworth are a good base for exploring south Somerset, Dorset and Devon.

We were disappointed to hear your feedback 3 weeks after your stay as we encourage our guests to provide feedback during their stay by prodviding mobile numbers and emails so any issues can be rectified at the time. We also inform our guests before their stay that they should let us know if any additional peope are staying as we only make up enough beds for the people staying, but we do make another bed up in case people do not share the same room, this is our bit to save the planet. The garden is small but large enough to include a large picnic table that will easily fit 4 people, it is exactly as shown in the photos. The access in the garden from another property is rarely used and shouldn't ruin guests enjoyment of the garden. There are blinds on the window in the lounge and the door with no blind cannot be viewed from outside as it is the interconnecting door from a porch with a solid door. The bed in the main bedroom is as shown in the photo too. St Margaret's Cottage is an old period property and as such has its own quirks such as a low entrance to the kitchen but guests should see the warning sign above it. If there are problems with the internet please let us know but I have done a speedtest and it is currently 24Mbps so by no means slow. Property Owner

  • "Really looking forward to our long awaited holiday."

At first glance were impressed. We went into the Kitchen then the Bathroom and so shocked at the very poor cleanliness of both rooms. We did not expect to come away on holiday to clean our holiday let to a standard to which you claim to make in this covid era. some of the appliances in the Kitchen ie the fridgefreezer, had mould and food debris around the door seals and also the microwave is rusty inside the cooking compartment. We did not cook in the kitchen as it is not my place to completly clean the kitchen. We could go on but there isnt enough space. We had to completely clean the Bathroom, the shower door was so dirty you couldnt see through it due soap scum and lime stains. It looked as though it hadnt been cleaned for a long while. On top of this 3 of the venetian blinds where broken, the one in the main bedroom could not be closed properly so no privacy. Wardrobe in main Bedroom smelled very unpleasent so did not use it. also not safe as my husband went to open it, it fell on him. The doublebed in the main bedroom was awful

We take the cleanliness and maintenance of St Margaret’s Cottage very seriously and actively encourage our guests to report any issues as they occur by providing mobile numbers and email address. We did not hear from the guests at all during her stay and therefore were shocked to get this review. If she had complained at the time, we would of course have visited ourselves or sent our cleaners and caretaker to sort out any issues. When our cleaners arrived after the guests completed her stay there was no evidence of any cleanliness issue. The blinds have since been repaired, which is something we would have done at the time, if we had been made aware. Since receiving the review we have checked and there is no unpleasant smell in the wardrobe and the wardrobe is fixed to the wall. The double bed is very comfortable, as we often stay there ourselves, Guests who stayed afterwards have made none of these complaints. Property Owner

  • "Cottage was great apart from a few niggles: 1)."

Lack of a full-size bath. I appreciate the bathroom has been made out of the original master, which restricts the space available but placing the toilet next to the sink (i.e. ditch the cupboard between) would have allowed room for a corner bath. 2). As explained in a phone conversation to the owners, the mixer tap on the bath / shower was stuck on very hot and the plastic release switch doesn't work. 3). The cottage description hints that access / parking is tight but it really is VERY tight. I was just about okay with my Vauxhall Insignia but, should anyone book the cottage with a slightly wider vehicle, they are going to have real problems getting in and out. I think this could be made clearer in the description, because I don't think clients with large vehicles are going to be very pleased if they have to park in a nearby road and haul all of their stuff round there by hand. 4). The large cooker extractor hood - I banged my head on it several times, it is too big and sticks out too far into the kitchen. Apart from that all was great, thanks.

The owner sent hooid communications. Sykes sent communications in triplicate that were not needed. I know to leave a cpttage clean and tidy and when payments go out and to have money to cover. A simple, your payment received with thanks and have a good journey home at the relevant times would suffice. I understand you didn't consult with the cottage owner about the" end of holiday" e mail and ypurs was totally inaccurate. Goodbye Sykes cottages.

If you have a large wide vehicle not ideal, but a mid size family car you’ll be just fine. It’s well equipped and a fantastic base for exploring the coast. Sykes booking system was very straightforward with lots of communication emails. The owners communication was spot on and detailed. We would be very happy to stay in the future.

The cottage and location was perfect for our family of 4. It was like a home from home, it was so comfortable and had everything we needed. The local shop and park is very convenient and it's an easy drive to all the local attractions. Thank you so much to our hosts who communicated well throughout our booking and stay and we look forward to coming back soon.

  • "We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay for a week away."

The cottage was perfect. And even with the current COVID issues, it was still cosy and welcoming. It has all the standard facilities you would expect, and was very clean. The beds were really comfy, But could have done with thicker duvet covers, but we took blankets in case we got chilly. It’s within driving distance to most popular places, such as Lyme Regis, Bridport and west bay, which were all within a half hour drive away. The only small downside to it is the access. I have a Toyota CHR, and I had to drive extremely carefully down the lane, even with my wing mirrors in I had very little room for manœuvre. Anyone with a 4x4, i.e evoke or bigger, would have difficulty gaining access to the property. Having said that, once your used to the width of the lane, it becomes easier! All in all, we had a brilliant stay, and would recommend anyone to visit this quaint cottage and village. Thank you to Mrs Dawson, for making it as homely as possible given the current situation. We will definitely return

  • "The cottage was generally as described and a great location for visiting local towns etc."

Given the current C19 pandemic and the extra cleaning that we were expecting to have been done we were disappointed with what we found, there were issues relating to the property that should be addressed: Lounge - the central heating radiator didn't work at all, there was a small oil filled radiator at the other end of the room not sure if this was supposed to be in addition to the CH system or extra. We propped open the dining room door and this allowed the heat from there to circulate into the lounge. There weren't cables from each of the TV boxes to the TV and no instructions. A small bin would have been useful. Dining room - very comfortable and homely. Kitchen - when we arrived all the crockery, glasses, cutlery etc. had a dusty/gritty residue as the dishwasher didn't seem to be able to rinse properly - probably needs a good clean. Some of the cupboard door were dirty with grease and finger marks. The non-stick cooking trays has burned on residue from previous use which was easy enough to wash off but should not be for us to do on arrival. Bedrooms - the double bed made us roll toward the middle, it wasn't until the last morning we discovered that the longitudinal bar underneath supporting the middle was in fact toward one side. As a result of this one of us slept in the twin room where the bed was in fact very comfortable, but not what we had wanted. Bathroom - the shower screen was very dirty with limescale and has obviously not been cleaned for many months.

  • "Nice cottage ."

Plenty to do nearby. But it was a little disappointment: first we did not enjoy the garden which was very small and you could access only from the kitchen, there was steps and a big wooden self closing door so you could not see the garden from the house and so could not see the ones outside from the inside. The other bad point is that the door between the dining room and the kitchen does not have the standard height and so both of the adults bumped our head at a time or an other and quite strongly for my part which was not pleasant at all as you can imagine. We found the cottage smaller than expected. Nevertheless it was not expensive for the area so it is worth the price. A welcome pack would have been appreciated.

We were there during the Lyme Regis Carnival week which was an added bonus! The villiages of Beer and Branscombe were very picturesque leading to lovely beaches, more to do in Beer if you have children, definitely worth a visit. Local pub 'YE OLDE POPPE INN' very friendly and lovely food. Cheddar Gorge an hour away with outstanding scenery. Overall had a fab holiday and would definitely recommend. The cottage was very well furnished, clean, warm, and comfortable and with everything we needed on hand. Lots of thoughtful comforts. I even got used to the creaky springs in the double bed! The owner had advised us of the easiest way to drive in and out of the lane, but we did have issues parking and manoeuvring with the Freelander and had to park on the road. Outside, there's a small private sitting area at the front and a private courtyard at the rear of the cottage, beside the little lane.

When the sun is shining, you can sit out here with a book, or enjoy refreshments whilst you discuss your day’s activities.
