  • "We enjoyed returning to Wimple Cottage again this November."

The cottage is in a great location to visit Devon. It is very comfortable and has everything you need for a good break. Having purchased a EV car since we last stayed a couple of years ago, we had no problems charging it at the fast EV chargers at Exeter Services or Ikea each day. (Just a couple of miles from the cottage). We will plan a return visit.

Very well appointed, good WiFi reception. Outside space with choice of chairs and table. Large field for dog walking. Swimming pool not in use only available in Summer. Quiet and peaceful location, ideal for a relaxing break or visiting the local area.

  • "Slight confusion upon arrival (unfortunately, in the dark) as the second signpost up to the cottages had been dislodged in the recent bad weather but one phone call put us right!"

Lovely friendly welcome from Angela who very kindly popped straight out to welcome us, get the key from the safe, open the front door and turn on the lights. Once inside the cotttage was warm, cosy, comfortable and extremely clean. Everything we could possibly have needed, and more, was there for us. The online photos and previous reviews were spot on! Our little dog was with us and all the facilities for him were absolutely fine too and we must agree with other reviewers that there was no sign of any previous canine visitors! Note to other dog owners: We had some dreadful weather during our weekend away and would like to advise about nearby Cranbrook Park. It's less than 10 minutes drive away, easy parking in the local streets, loads of open grassy space, meandering gravel paths and doggy bins. Perfect!

  • "Lovely cottage had everything we needed and more."

Very comfortable and warm. Plenty to do close by but a good location to go to other places. We managed Cornwall, South/North Devon, and Stonehenge. Highly recommended and would be great for larger parties to book both cottages. Also local Parkrun is minutes away.

  • "Just got back after 2 fabulous weeks holiday at Whimple Cottage."

This is our second holiday here and I really would recommend it. I always feel completely relaxed here and it's perfect for the dog too as there is a large field where she can run around. Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. It is very peaceful and relaxing in the perfect location for a chilled out break. Lots of places to visit in near by villages/ towns. On arrival, Angela had some scones and cream waiting for us to give us a warm welcome and is on hand for if you need anything. The cottage is well equipped with all you will need on a self-catering holiday. On the sunny days there is a lovely pool where you can relax and enjoy the day or many beaches you can travel to.

  • "We stayed at Whimple Cottage last week and it was one of the best holidays we have had in a long time."

The cottage is in a lovely location and is exceptionally well equipped . We have two daughters aged 10 and 13 who loved the pool and were in it every day, they did not want to go home. The location is great as it is not far from Exmouth and Sidmouth, indeed 40 minutes will get you to Lyme Regis also. We are definitely going back next year. Thank you to Angela for being so welcoming, friendly and helpful.

The cottage is beautifully clean and well equipped and warm too. The extra touches like milk, scones and jam and cream - and a lovely real Christmas tree - made the stay even better. The cottage is only 15 to 20 minutes from Exeter which was great. We loved the view out to the field from the living room. The directions were good and access was clearly explained too.

The fresh flowers and cream tea on our arrival was a bonus after a four hour journey. A good base for Sidmouth, Exeter, Dartmoor. The bunk beds in the second bedroom would be a squeeze unless you had young children. Perfect for a couple and certainly will stay again.

  • "What a perfect holiday!"

From looking and booking, to arrival and departure all instructions were easy to follow and communications were excellent. Even a local road closure and re-route for easy travel were sent to us prior to arrival. There are covid - care measures in place and the cottage and grounds are immaculately kept. There was a lovely afternoon tea welcome pack with homemade Devon scones and clotted cream and milk in the fridge. Angela and Stuart are wonderful hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them and they have thought of everything and more to ensure a relaxing and stress-less stay. The cottage is really well equipped with high quality furnishings & home wares - basically everything you'll need. Even surprised and relieved to find some scales as being diabetic, I have to weigh out my food and I'd forgotten to take some. Eco-friendly cleaning materials are provided as are Fairy liquid and Fairy non-bio washing pods to use as the properties utilise non mains water and waste treatment. There is also recycling facilities and waste bags supplied. There's a smart TV which you can use Netflix etc from your own account and good wifi signals. Also have laundry / ironing facilities etc. Honestly they've thought of everything. Everything is scrupulously clean, the beds are really comfortable and everything looks new. The cottage is in really pretty grounds, beautiful hanging baskets and flowers and own private patio and small garden, but you are welcome to use the field at the rear for sport (we played petanque & badminton - but it was too hot to do much more during our wonderful heat-wave week!) The electrically heated pool is well maintained, cleaned and serviced daily and is a great size for families. There is a covid- care rota system in place currently for the cottages to ensure safe and equally use of the pool. If you are going out for the day - ask the neighbouring cottage to swap or change times with you. We did and lazed around for a few days - so basically had the pool area to ourselves - heaven ! The cottages are also dog friendly and there's a big dog walking field just to the rear of the cottages as well as good walks nearby and although dog friendly, there's not one hair or doggy smell to be found anywhere. It's really, really clean. Its in a beautiful spot within easy access of Ottery-St-Mary, Exeter and beautiful beaches of Sidmouth, Exmouth, Sandy Bay and a little further the gorgeous Jurassic Coast. We're already planning to return...... if you're in any doubt about booking here - don't be - its gorgeous and you wont be disappointed. Thank you Angela and Stuart and Helpful Holidays - can't wait to visit again !

  • "We had a great break and Whimple Cottage was very warm and comfortable."

We appreciated the delicious scones that were left for us and the fresh flowers in the cottage. When I booked the cottage, the swimming pool was a factor in my decision to book. Fortunately, I asked the owner a question about it and was told it was closed for the winter. This was disappointing and to be fair to the owner, she did offer to cancel the booking free of charge. We declined this offer and obviously did stay at the cottage. I think it should be very clear to anyone considering booking that the pool is closed during the winter. If I hadn't mentioned it, we would have arrived expecting it be to open and we would have been very disappointed. It was a shame because it annoyed me before we arrived and in fact the cottage was great.

Thank you very much for your feedback, we're really pleased to hear how much you liked Whimple Cottage and we're happy you had such a good time. The shared outdoor pool is available between May to September (the warmer months!) and although we've tried hard to make this obvious in the description for the property, we're sorry you missed this and were left disappointed. We're delighted that despite this, you still had a fantastic stay and we will look forward to seeing you again soon! Property Owner
