  • "We have just returned from a weekend at this beautiful farmhouse, where we were celebrating our granddaughter's 21st birthday ."

There was plenty of space for all 14 of us to be comfortable. Immaculately clean throughout, large white fluffy towels provided , a kitchen so well equipped with everything and more that we needed . Dave, the owner popped across to see that we had everything we were happy with everything and then left us alone. A lovely seating area outdoors, table tennis and a badminton court in the barn gave the younger ones some exercise . The log burner was nice to sit with in the evening , before heading off to sleep in a really comfortable bed surrounded by the silence of the countryside, only interrupted by the sound of the owls . Would we go there again ? Most certainly !

  • "We had such a wonderful stay at Haye Barton, with 10 adults, 3 children and 3 dogs all enjoying this fantastic and peaceful space."

The house is well equipped, the beds so comfortable, and the views amazing. We made good use of the barns, the outdoor seating areas, and the large kitchen table, as well as the fields that we could walk in. Peering down the old well in the kitchen was fascinating, and we loved having the cows come to look at us in the evening! David was really friendly, and easily contactable if we needed him. There are so many good memories for us to look back on from our stay at Haye Barton, and I think we would all love to come back again one day.

  • "Idyllic and peaceful location."

Lovely comfortable large house ideal for our family party of nine and four dogs, and scope for a few more. Lots of things to do locally and would highly recommend Trevallick’s Farm Shop. Great breakfasts and feeding the pigs was a popular activity with the youngest of our party. Only improvements I would suggest would be a bit more grass in the outside area and somewhere to hang coats.

We were greeted by the owner David on arrival who was also nearby if we needed him for anything. The farmhouse was fully equipped with everything that we needed. Plenty of space and so peaceful! The cows visited in the evening which our granddaughters enjoyed very much. Our 2 dogs enjoyed the freedom of the nearby fields. The outside seating area with BBQ and a table tennis table was just perfect! No one wanted to leave so we will be returning for 2 weeks the next time we holiday in Cornwall!

  • "Our stay at Haye Barton Farm was a very enjoyable week."

There were 14 adults and 3 dogs, but not all at the same time, celebrating two 60th and one 90th birthday. It is set in a very peaceful, safe environment and we enjoyed our daily evening visits from the resident cows. The dogs were completely unfazed and even though they had free rein, never wandered off. The house is amazing, very spacious and comfortable as described. David was on hand if needed, but left us to our own resources. There is lots to do in the surrounding areas, but you do need to drive as the farm is quite remote. But that said, we were more than happy to stay put most days. My only little gripe is that dogs are not allowed upstairs. It would be useful to put this on the description as we only found this out once we had paid up fully and given the key collection/directions. Not good if you have anxious pets.

  • "The holiday cottage itself is as described."

The internal photos are accurate. Plenty of space over three floors. The sitting room was our favourite room - very warm with comfy sofas. The utility room has a freestanding, large larder fridge and larder freezer so a wonderful amount of fridge/freezer space. Very useful for large groups. However, the outside (for us) was very disappointing. We had four active dogs with us (Golden Retriever, Labradors) and we were very much looking forward to walking them over the promised 115 acres "all yours to roam free, with care", then have afternoons relaxing with board games/movies etc whilst the dogs slept after their adventures. But, regrettably, during our stay it was not possible to walk any of the fields - (even with dogs on leads) as the fields now had sheep with their lambs, cows with calves (and a Bull) and the other fields had been treated with slurry. However, if you did not want to use the 115 acres of fields (and I guess in a few weeks the slurried fields would be available?), then this holiday cottage is located in a very accessible part of Cornwall. Fowey was a lovely harbour village to walk around, Perranporth beach (1-hour's drive away) is superb with 3-miles of sandy beach (dog friendly). Bodmin moor was glorious and Jamaica Inn served delicious food (just a 30 minutes drive away). So in summary - a lovely, large farmhouse to stay in. Beautiful vistas and in a good location. It just didn't come with the promised and advertised 115 acres for our stay, which was a HUGE negative for us and our four dogs and made for a very different holiday to the one we had planned (hence the 1-star rating). Dogs aren't allowed upstairs either, which again, was not ideal. Therefore, had the fields been available as promised and dogs allowed upstairs, the rating would have been 5-stars.

  • "** FANTASTIC FAMILY HOLIDAY IN A BEAUTIFUL BIG HOUSE ** We have just returned from a week at Haye Barton Farm and I can honestly say we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

There were 11 of us plus 2 dogs and we all had ample room. The house and the surrounding areas are superb. We met Dave and his family during our stay and they were lovely down to earth people. Dave came round and told us about places to visit and eat and we found some hidden gems. These included the Wheal Tor Hotel and let me tell you the views from this place are spectacular and the staff were very friendly aswell. Another hidden gem was Golitha Falls, this was great to let the dogs off and have a lovely walk through the woods to find the waterfall and the dogs can have a paddle too. If you think this house is too far from the main attractions in Cornwall then you’re wrong. During our stay we visited Lands End, Penzance, Newquay, Truro, Looe and St Ives and the car journey’s didn’t feel long at all. There is a family BBQ on site which we used during our stay and a lovely outdoor seating area to socialise in the nice weather. The 2 log burners are fantastic in the house and are great if it gets a bit chilly on a night. Dave was always on hand checking we had enough logs. The dogs can have as much freedom as possible as there are lots of fields around the house. If you are looking for a big house which is dog friendly and out in the sticks away from the outside world this is the place to stay. We will definitely return and would recommend to anyone. Thanks.

The property

Haye Barton Farm is a huge, detached, completely private, south-facing farmhouse on three levels, looking over 115 acres of farmland and bluebell woods which are all yours to roam and explore with care; there is a river - great for older children but small children should be supervised.

The village of St.Ive is 1½ miles away and the house is approached over its own track.

Step inside a huge farmhouse kitchen with dining table and chairs one end with wood-burning stove and flagstone floor, with the added novelty of a glass-topped original well by the sink!

Walk through to an equally large living room with inglenook and wood-burning stove.

At this level there is a big utility room and toilet.

Head up the stairs to five bedrooms, three king-size and one romantic super king-size four-poster and two twin.

Family bathroom and shower-room.

Take a few more stairs up to a second living room-cum-den with double sofa bed and a super-king double bedroom with en suite shower-room - in this room there are some sloping beams.

Immediately in front, there is a small, enclosed walled garden.

Once all was thriving with a variety of farming activities, now the surrounding barns are mostly vacant.

An open-ended barn contains table tennis and badminton and the rest provide sanctuary for swallows.

This is a great central spot from which to explore the county, but once here you might not want to leave!

This is a terrific family house offering freedom for children.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £300.

About the location

ST IVE

Liskeard 5 miles; Looe 15 miles

Close to the southern edge of Bodmin Moor, the pretty village of St Ive (there are three parts) is characterised by rolling green fields, stone circles, rocky tors and a labyrinth of paths winding through the countryside. Though the community covers a large area, its lovely old church and superb country pub act as the main focal points. There is much to do and see in this fascinating area, with the old market town of Liskeard just 5 miles away and the beaches and harbour of the quaint fishing port of Looe a mere 15 miles through the winding country lanes. In-between there’s fishing and watersports at nearby Siblyback Lake, the Donkey Sanctuary at St Annes Chapel, Cotehele House (NT) and gardens, and the championship golf course at St Mellion Country Club. For superb days out with the children try Dobwalls Theme Park (4 miles from Liskeard) or the world famous Eden Project. Even the maritime city of Plymouth with its historic Barbican docks area, outstanding shops, theatres and restaurants and the National Maritime Museum is only 40 minutes by car.
