  • "We both enjoyed our stay at 13 Oxford Street."

It’s in a fabulous location, within easy walking distance of the city centre and great shops, bars and restaurants. The house itself was clean, warm, comfortable, and well-equipped—as a previous reviewer mentioned, a hair dryer would be handy in a holiday let as these are quite bulky to pack. Parking is quite tricky; Oxford Street is mainly for residents with permits, with the rest of the street for stays of two hours maximum. Information about nearby areas with free on-street parking was kindly provided upon booking, but unfortunately all of these spaces were full when we arrived (a late afternoon weekday). However, we were subsequently able to book a parking space using an app around ten minutes’ walk from the property for the duration of the holiday quite easily, so it worked out in the end.

Thank you so much for the positive feedback, so pleased you enjoyed your stay! A hairdryer is usually available for guests, but we have been made aware that it has gone missing so will be replaced. Property Owner

  • "Ideally situated for train station, shops and historic sites of Exeter."

Accommodation adequate but a bit of a squeeze for 4 adults. A microwave, kitchen scissors and most importantly access to either a mop, broom or vacuum cleaner would have been helpful. An information folder regarding nearest shops, restaurants, doctors etc and instructions for cooker, tv and other appliances would definitely be useful.

Thank you for the positive feedback! We provide information about local amenities in the pre-stay email, however, a couple of people have mentioned that I microwave would be useful so we will be providing one in due course. Property Owner

  • "The house was tastefully decorated and very comfortable."

The area was nice and quiet and easy to walk into the city centre. We were staying for a dance festival at the corn exchange so only a 15 min walk, avoiding the cities extortionate car parking fees! (£18 a day currently) The only annoying thing was not being provided with the correct key code and being stuck in the pouring rain unable to get into the house. Fortunately when I finally found a number to contact Sykes they were able to give me an alternative code to try which worked. Also a microwave would have been really useful.

We are sorry about your experience accessing the key safe, we have liaised with Sykes regarding this following your stay. Thank you for your positive review of the house, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "I would highly recommend this property for anyone visiting Exeter."

The house was very comfortable and all the facilities were in very good condition. It is just a short walk to some really good independent bakeries and other shops on the main road and also to M&S food! Easy walk into the city centre.

  • "We had an amazing stay at 13 Oxford Street."

As non drivers the cottage is perfectly positioned near St Thomas Rail way station and a main bustop on Cowick Street. Its also a pleasant 20 min walk into town, either up the hill on fore Street or via the Quays using steps. There is also a flatter route along the river. The cottage was warm and cosy with relaxing decor. It was spotless and our beds were comfy. Great shower and large bathroom and a little courtyard outside. There is also a selection of books on the bookshelves. The TV has loads of options but we couldn't find the traditionsl terrestrial channels but it was easy enough to figure out how to select programmes and you can watch live TV if its the bbc or ITV. It also had Netflix and Amazon Prime which was fab. The kitchen is very modern and had every thing we needed bar a large frying pan and scissors. The fridge had milk, bread and butter but I reccomend to bring tea and coffee with you. Our only feedback would be printing out a little information folder with Oven and Hob instructions. I used Google and found the PDFs but not everyone can do this. There is free WiFi. We would have happily swept the floors or hoovered but there are little cleaning products so it might be worth leaving a few more bits and bobs out. These are all minor things and we would definitely stay again. The owners are also quick to respond over messaging which was fab too so we felt looked after, we also had a lovely welcome hamper.

Thank you for your lovely review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner

  • "Nicely furnished property with good access to train stations and the lovely quayside."

I believe it’s fairly new to the rental market so perhaps I could share some observations to make a nice property even better. A microwave would be a bonus as using the oven must be more expensive. A bath slip mat and a hairdryer are things most people expect in any rental. The second bedroom has a double or king bed in it, but it is impossible to get around the bed as it butts right up to the fireplace. Not good if you need to use the downstairs toilet during the night. A set of drawers in one of the rooms would be nice. All in all, this is a very nice house for two or three people and just needs a few tweaks. Owner was very receptive to enquires as were cleaning company.

About the location

EXETER

Shillingford Abbot 2.4 miles; Exminster 4 miles; Topsham 4.4 miles.

Exeter is a lively city in south Devon with a magnificent cathedral, historic quayside area with artisan shops and cafes, guided tours of the maze of underground passages and a wealth of bars, shops and restaurants. There is a good choice of excellent museums tracing the city’s lengthy history including an interesting medieval building The Tucker’s Hall, built for the Company of Weavers, Tuckers and Shearman which houses exceptional carved panelling, rare silver and a 4 feet long pair of fulling shears. Nearby Parliament Street claims to be the world’s narrowest street – less than 25 inches at its narrowest. The gatehouse and tower of Rougemont castle still stand in the city, surrounded by Rougemont gardens with a backdrop of Roman wall ruins - a tranquil haven. Exeter’s one time importance as a port is reflected in the Custom House, now the centrepiece of the Quayside, a fascinating complex of antique shops and cafes. Within a 15 minute drive of the city, there are some fabulous beaches at Sidmouth and Exmouth, and the start of the 95 mile stretch of Jurassic Coast, all of which provide ample opportunities for relaxation, sport and exploration. Exeter is an ideal south Devon base from which to explore pretty countryside and Heritage Coast.
