10 Customer Reviews

  • "We have just come back from The Lodge, 2 adults and 2 boys 9 and 12 and although it is a beautiful house and a has a large and stunning garden/s we didn't completely feel like it was a home from home."

The owners were fantastic, extremely friendly and accommodating, we just wished there had been more basic items in the house, such as salt/pepper, tea, coffee, sugar, a brush for scrubbing potatoes, little things like that. We didn't realise we would have to bring absolutely everything from home as every holiday house we have stayed in has had these already, although this is not always the case as we understand now. It was not a huge problem as we went to Tesco's and bought some but it would have been nice to know this beforehand. The house itself was lovely and clean but the night storage heaters are very warm in the day, so we either turned them off or right down. We visited many places but it is a journey - 40 to 45mins to Exmouth and surrounding area. There are 1 track roads leading to the house and lots of pot holes around in that area of Devon. Some interesting things to do in the area and we enjoyed the gardens. A lovely house and surrounding area, very peaceful.

Thank you for your kind review. We are glad you had an enjoyable stay. I’m sorry you were disappointed that we don’t provide tea and coffee. We took the decision to remove these are they were very often not being used meaning we had to throw items away regularly. This waste felt uncomfortable. We would love to welcome you back for a return stay. Property Owner

Absolutely stunning inside and out we were certainly treated. Everything we ever wanted and more a house we could only dream of owning. We really did not want to leave. Certainly coming back again and hope to stay for longer. Thank you

  • "There was mice in the house."

First night I saw one running and emailed the owner but she reassured us it can't be "resident". We were uncomfortable. The last night we found a dead one in the kitchen cupboard. The owner was very unapologetic. She said the mouse was maybe unwell! It just ruined our holiday and we couldn't even sleep. i couldn't remain downstairs at night. So no, I would not recommend this cottage, as I have never been in a house with mice before and very disappointed by how the owner ignored our discomfort.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Lodge. Regrettably, Sykes was not informed of these circumstances during your stay. Had we been notified, we would have promptly taken measures to rectify the situation and ensure your utmost comfort throughout your stay. It's worth noting that with rural properties such as this, it is not uncommon for various forms of wildlife to enter, especially during this particular season. We understand from the owner that only a single mouse was seen. No other signs of mice are present which indicate this is not an ongoing issue and this was likely due to harvesting ongoing in the fields surrounding the property at the time of your stay. • "We thoroughly enjoyed our week."

Spacious house, well furnished, huge garden. Good location for getting to plenty of non-touristy parts of Devon. There were only 2 of us - if there were 6, I think some of the contents could be on the sparse side. Didn't do a full inventory, but there were probably only 6 knives, 6 plates, 6 bowls etc (8 mugs, but no cups and saucers). But from our point of view, it was great.

Thank you for your feedback and glad you had an enjoyable stay at The Lodge. Having taken on board your comments we have increased the amount of crockery and glassware available at the house. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay at this lovely spacious, quiet and cosy house set in the lovely Devon countryside."

The position was good for day trips around Devon and it was a bonus to be walking distance from The Exe Valley Farm shop and cafe which meant not having to find a supermarket! The owners were friendly and helpful and we would certainly stay again.

  • "We enjoyed our stay in The Lodge, a spacious property with a very large garden, including a large pond."

The owners were very helpful, especially when a fuse tripped and they made a special journey (they don't live nearby) to come and fix it. The cream tea on arrival was also very welcome! Plenty to do in the area, although it's a good hour's drive to get to Dartmoor and North Devon, but Exeter and the south coast is only 20-40 minutes away. The Aga takes a little getting used to but works fine and the property is reasonably well equipped, although a few more basics such as dishwasher and washing machine tablets, washing-up liquid, etc would be useful as it's a nuisance having to go out and buy them. Overall one of the best holiday properties we've stayed in.

Thank you for such kind feedback, we are so glad you had a nice stay. I do apologise for the lack of washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets- this was an oversight as we do usually leave a supply of both. Property Owner
