  • "We’ve stayed in many places but none with so much heart & soul as The Woodshed."

What an absolutely gem. The tranquility peace space & homely feel the Woodshed gives is beyond our words. The host Bob made us feel so welcome and even our dog had a bit of a holiday romance with he’s dog. This place was so clean & had absolutely everything you need for a great break & it’s so comfortable. The Woodshed is a huge credit to Bob it’s pretty amazing and we can’t wait to get back there. Thank you Bob we had the best time. R K C & little Bobbie.

  • "The property was very clean and well maintained."

Would suggest small seat in bedroom near power point for drying your hair. Lovely location and use of garden a bonus especially in summer months. Our week was very wet and the entrance to parking space was very muddy in the corner of farmers field. Would recommend this holiday property to family and friends.

Perfect base to relax in the evenings. Managed a long walk along the beach in Exemouth and a train journey to Dawlish between childcare duties. Very much enjoyed watching the birds feeding!

  • "A beautiful place to stay - thank you."

The kitchen was very well equipped and we had everything we needed for our stay. The bed was really comfortable and I’ve now even ordered the same bedding to have at home!!! Our little boy slept well in the travel cot provided and it was really helpful to have the stair gate and highchair, too. The location is so peaceful but we were able to drive out to access lots of great days out. Would definitely recommend.

  • "The Wood shed was wonderful!"

Perfect for our 3 night stay for a wedding nearby. It would be fab for a week too! The views are beautiful, overlooking fields of barley and rolling hills, with the only sound being birds. So relaxing and calm. The woodshed has everything you need in the kitchen/dining area with a good music system too. Upstairs is relaxing and comfy...and binoculars to see the pigs enjoying life in the far field!! Bedrooms are good and perfect for a family. The whole place was spotless!! Thankyou to Bob for the friendly approach and gifts..wine eggs, milk, tea, coffee!!

Very well appointed, clean and comfortable. Host could not have been nicer or more welcoming. We took our lively cocker spaniel and she was also made very welcome. However, we needed to be careful about taking her out because, although garden was lovely, it was not entirely pet secure.

The cottage was kitted out with everything you need and quality of utensils / crockery etc... was superb. The whole place was spotless. Lovely, quiet location with a nice pub circa 1 mile away. Very peaceful with no passing traffic, so a good retreat at the end of days out. The Woodshed overlooked owners’ garden (which you can use too - benches, washing line, bbq area) and countryside. Easy access with car to East Devon area and more. Friendly owners on hand to help with places to go.

  • "The woodshed is an amazing place, so peaceful and tranquil with heavenly views across the rolling Devonshire hills and patchwork fields ."

The property is small but incredibly well equipped, very comfortable beds, cosy lounge and all beautifully handcrafted. The only problem we had seems to be a little misunderstanding with the garden which I was told was dog friendly and fully enclosed, not quite the case if you have a dog with a tendency to squeeze through hedges after rabbits or likes to chase chickens!! A fabulous place for a couple, not much in the village but Exeter only a few miles away. Second bedroom very small but probably well suited to younger children. Local pub was closed when we visited but looked beautiful, and Bob and Issy have put together a fantastic and comprehensive guide to Devon, pubs, beaches, attractions for walkers, children etc. Absolutely idyllic.

The property

This cottage has been converted from the end of the owner's oak-framed barn at the end of a no through lane on the edge of Upton Pyne.

With lovely views over the Exe Valley as far as the Killerton estate, this is a great base for anyone in need of some rest and relaxation in beautiful surroundings.

Take a couple of steps up into the spacious kitchen, well equipped with a dining area, then head on upstairs to your fabulous airy sitting room under the eaves with its elm floor and cosy wood burning stove.

On a sunny day, open the French windows to the balcony where you can admire those views over Devon countryside.

A couple of steps take you down to the two bedrooms sharing a smart family shower room.

Wander down the gravel path to your outdoor seating area where you can eat alfresco, or you are welcome to enjoy the owners' garden where hens and cats roam free.

For a refreshing drink, a footpath will lead you to a good pub in less than a mile.

The National Trust house and garden at Killerton are spectacular, or head to Dartmoor to admire some natural beauty.

The coast is within easy reach at Exmouth or Dawlish, as well as the bright lights of the cathedral city of Exeter.

The Woodshed is in a brilliant central location for coast, countryside and city or for simply chilling out.

About the location

UPTON PYNE

Exeter is a lively city in south Devon with a magnificent cathedral, historic quayside area with artisan shops and cafes, guided tours of the maze of underground passages and a wealth of bars, shops and restaurants. There is a good choice of excellent museums tracing the city’s lengthy history including an interesting medieval building The Tucker’s Hall, built for the Company of Weavers, Tuckers and Shearman which houses exceptional carved panelling, rare silver and a 4 feet long pair of fulling shears. Nearby Parliament Street claims to be the world’s narrowest street – less than 25 inches at its narrowest. The gatehouse and tower of Rougemont castle still stand in the city, surrounded by Rougemont gardens with a backdrop of Roman wall ruins - a tranquil haven. Exeter’s one time importance as a port is reflected in the Custom House, now the centrepiece of the Quayside, a fascinating complex of antique shops and cafes. Within a 15 minute drive of the city, there are some fabulous beaches at Sidmouth and Exmouth, and the start of the 95 mile stretch of Jurassic Coast, all of which provide ample opportunities for relaxation, sport and exploration. Exeter is an ideal south Devon base from which to explore pretty countryside and Heritage Coast.
