The Sustonica certification focuses on four key areas: energy conservation, water conservation,
waste reduction and promoting inclusiveness. They are on a mission to become the most widely
recognised sustainability standard for holiday rentals and a catalyst to reduce emissions of holiday
lets and influence guests to reduce their own household consumption too.
Properties that display the Sustonica badge have successfully passed the criteria,
which align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards,

Johnathon and Pamela made us very welcome, in their very well presented barn conversion, every little detail had been thought of. even a welcoming fruit cake awaited us.
Unfortunately due to a family illness we had to leave two days early, but will certainly return again, Johnathan and Pamela even contacted us after we left, to wish our son well.

The property is spacious,immaculately presented,very well equipped and furnished and exhibits exceptional attention to detail throughout."
The WiFi and mobile signals are good and the Barn has two TVs as well as a DVD player and separate radio with CD player.As well as a spacious ensuite to the bedroom (comfortable King-size bed and plenty of storage space) there is a useful shower room off the entrance porch.The location is superb,with endless options for moorland walks both near at hand and further afield,and wonderfully quiet.The friendly hosts respect one's privacy but are on hand to help out and answer questions if needed.I thoroughly enjoyed my week's stay and would not hesitate to recommend this property to those seeking something a bit special.

The owners are friendly and helpful. Situated in a peaceful and very attractive location within a 5 minute drive of Dartmoor and 10 minute walk (albeit 5 minutes on busy road with no footpath) from decent local pub. We enjoyed very much our week at The Barn and would not hesitate to recommend it.

"Wonderful cottage which met all expectations."
However, the process surrounding the booking leaves a lot to be desired.
Firstly I booked via the previously used and welcoming Helpful Holidays and to my surprise Sykes then took over.
We are mature adults who do not wish to be lectured on the DO & DON'T's on how to leave the property. Also the strict arrival time of 17-00 hrs and departure time of 09-00 is unsatisfactory and inconvenient.
None of this reflects upon the friendly hosts.

We were hoping to spend a few days just chilling and recharging our batteries and this was easily achieved. A delicious home made cake was waiting for us and Jonathon and Pamela were very approachable and friendly without being intrusive. All in all a lovely few days and we hope to return.

Large ensuite and separate shower room. Well equipped barn conversion and friendly and helpful owners who live on site. Great outdoor space, especially if you bring your dog. A 20 acre field as part of the property for your sole use which is great for exercising your dog.
Very quiet and secluded barn accessed by quite narrow, long drive, but fine if you drive slowly.
Would recommend and return again if visiting the area. Lots of places to visit and countless walks both on and around Dartmoor.

Attached to owners property but the barn is private with no sense of being intruded upon. Great bed, really comfortable and huge kitchen for a 2 person stay.
The location of the barn will suit all as it virtually on Dartmoor yet close enough to towns and NT properties etc should the weather be poor.
We really enjoyed a relaxing week here and walked on the moor almost every day.
Would highly recommend.

Our hosts were welcoming yet left us to enjoy our own privacy. The property is furnished to a high standard with everything you would possibly need to enjoy your stay. Our Collie, Meg, was welcomed too. On arrival milk was in the fridge, tea & coffee available plus a delicious homemade fruit cake. We found this a lovely location on Dartmoor but within easy travelling to both beaches and places of interest.

The property
Just outside the small village of Dousland, on the south-western slopes of Dartmoor, is Burham Barn.
Approached via 1/3rd of a mile of private drive, this single-storey cottage converted from a former barn is peacefully located in the grounds of the owner's home.
Designed for comfort and convenience, the living space is open-plan with a lofty beamed ceiling and glazed doors to a pretty garden room.
You'll sleep the night away in the comfortable and inviting double bedroom with a king-size bed, and en suite bathroom with bathtub.
There is a second bathroom with shower.
You have your own little patio with table and chairs, and you are welcome to wander the owner's' mature gardens and meadows.
Footpaths/lanes lead to two pubs within ½ mile, on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park.
Nearby Burrator Reservoir offers a unique day out for families, nature enthusiasts and Dartmoor lovers alike, with ample walks, wildlife and history.
Impressive Buckland Abbey is just a short drive away, as are the market town of Tavistock and Plymouth - Devon's Ocean City.

The pretty village of Yelverton makes a perfect base for exploring Dartmoor with excellent walking and cycling routes in the area. The 21 mile-long cycling and walking route Drake's Trail, runs through the village and links nearby Tavistock and Plymouth passing through wooded valleys and open moorland.
