  • "When we eventually found the place in the middle of nowhere, From the outside the setting was idyllic and tranquil, but when you got inside you were greeted with a damp musty smell."

There was no central heating only movable electric heaters, no wood for the fireplace. Very rare that you had a hot shower and one that produced a normal pressure. On the positive side the beds were comfortable and warm, which you needed due to the cottage being so cold. Would we stay here again ? definitely not.

Less than a mile from the main A380 Trunk Road is hardly "in the middle of nowhere" but I recall on your arrival your navigational skills were lacking! The property boasts a quiet countryside location and is clearly photographed, it is exactly as pictured and we do not advertise central heating. However when you arrived the cottage was warm and friendly with lights on and heating in every room working well. There IS a big bin at the kitchen door containing logs for FREE..... Since the property is popular and usually occupied it does not get either damp or musty? Strange you could not operate the power shower, no one else has had that problem? Happily your views are not those generally voiced. Property Owner

  • "An excellent cottage and a wonderful area."

Even if the weather was wet! I do not think it had been used for awhile as there were a few cobwebs and there were no firelighters to get us through the first night. But a lovely place and very comfortable. The owners were very friendly and they gave me the feeling they would have been helpful if we had needed them.

We are pleased you found the cottage comfortable. The Hayloft has been busy, and not left unattended, but it is a beamed cottage and there are cobwebs that magically appear within a day. We do hoover and clean thoroughly and are aware of all the hiding places but a C14th beamed and rough stone cottage is prone to the odd cobweb. We do have a log basket by the side of the woodburning stove, which usually has a few logs in it, and there is a large corn bin outside the kitchen door also with logs, we don't usually supply firelighters, as we don't use them ourselves as the wood is very dry. We did put a Christmas Tree and Festive Wreath in the cottage to greet you on your arrival, and hope to see you back again.. Property Owner

  • "The property was old and smelt must and damp."

It was clean but lots of spiders and other insects to contend with. The shower water was not hot for most of the time especially if other people were occupying other areas of the property, as it was attached to two others. Beautifully quiet and a lovely setting but not a place for an autumn or winter break

Hello, Yes, The Hayloft is a 14th Century property, one of the oldest stone and beamed buildings on the property. It is located on the upper ground level of a double storey long barn and does not suffer from mouldy musty or damp conditions anywhere. The Hayloft has its own independant services and does not share hot water with any other parts of the property. The level of hot water desired is selected by means of the shower control bar in the shower itself. You could simply have asked. There is always someone to help. The Hayloft is available year round and is popular for Autumn and Winter breaks when the woodburning fireplace creates a welcoming ambience for Country lovers who enjoy the pure verdant country setting to be found here. The Hayloft is not "connected to two others"? Property Owner

  • "We have had a lovely relaxing holiday at Magnolia lake."

The facilities and equipment are excellent, everything you need! Lovely exploring all the grounds with the variety of plants and trees. The owner Dianne and Ben very helpful. The only slight thing I would say is that the house keeper/ cleaner just gives it a little spruce up, I do realise it’s an old building with lots of stonework, but the cobwebs etc especially round curtains, windows etc have been there quite a while, but as I say it didn’t spoil our few days there. A beautiful location.

Thank you so much for choosing The Hayloft for your holiday here in Devon. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and also enjoyed the gardens too. We would love to welcome you again. Very best wishes to you and your husband. Diane Property Owner
