"We have just had the most relaxing and wonderful break at Monks Cottage."
Our hosts Nicky & Simon were amazing and our dog had a fantastic time meeting their Lab Henry.
The cottage was very comfortable and the location was perfect for us with loads of local walks on the doorstep.

"Monks Cottage was a fabulous base for our week around Dartmoor."

"This is our 2nd visit to Monks cottage and still want more."
Nicky and Simon are such lovely hosts. Having a real Christmas tree and the aga on this time was a real treat. For us the peace, quiet ,waking up to views of dartmoor the night sky full of stars with no light pollution is a real treat and the perfect mental and physical reset to start 2025.
Alan and Debra are the most delightful, funny, kind, appreciative and beautifully mannered visitors. Lucky us to have them return to Monks Cottage. We will keep every digit crossed and hope they return soon

"What a wonderful cottage."
Nicky, Simon and puppy Henry are such warm welcoming genuine hosts. It was such a delight to wake up every morning to the tri aspect views of dartmoor and the light that flooded the bedroom and sitting room. Everything we needed was provided and the nearby village of Chagford had plenty of places to eat and pick up provisions. Have already booked to return in December.
Debbie and Alan are just a delightful couple - both incredibly hard working people who really appreciated being able to relax and be peaceful. We very much look forward to welcoming them back to Monks

"This was our second visit to Monks cottage,this time for two weeks."
The place is absolutely fabulous,as are the gardens,especially at this time of year,when the flowers are in full bloom.The cottage is like a home from home,with everything you need for your stay.Very peaceful,as you are right in the heart of the country,with lots of wildlife,and only the occasional passing traffic.
Nicky & Simon,the owners,live on site,and are the most wonderful, interesting ,and welcoming people we have had the pleasure of staying with.We also loved meeting Henry,their new Golden Labrador puppy,who loved visiting us in the cottage!
We hope that one day we might return for another memorable stay.

"The holiday property and grounds are exceptional, beautifully maintained by both Simon and Nicky, a joy to stay there."
Both hosts are extremely friendly and helpful and the new puppy is a joy. This was our second stay and looking forward to booking again for next year. 10 out of 10 if there was a higher score they would definitely be given it.

"The cottage was beautiful and tranquil."
Nicky and Simon were lovely hosts as well as Henry, their (I think) Labrador who was very sweet. They had gone to the effort of fresh flowers and bread/milk which was a really nice touch.
The cottage has a lovely bedroom overlooking the fields and there is a private garden. We also had access to the shared garden/field and there was a lake at the bottom of this which was peaceful for an evening stroll.
It is very well connected and has some nice restaurants locally for an evening meal after walking in Dartmoor.
In summary, a lovely cottage making it an enjoyable and peaceful trip!

"Wow ! What a fabulous cottage."
Situated in beautiful gardens and adjoining fields, Monks Cottage ticks every box plus more. Exceptionally clean and very spacious. Nick and Simon are such a lovely couple who couldn't do enough to make holiday perfect.

"We were amazed and delighted with the standard of this property."
The level of accommodation is really that of a spacious, well-appointed modern home set in an ancient rural landscape. We particularly loved the open plan ground floor, Aga (such a blessing in a Devon winter!) and the triple aspect bedroom and sitting room, with stunning views over the moor. Owners charming, hospitable and unobtrusive - just as you would wish!

"Monks cottage is truly delightful in a superb location with spectacular views."
Ideal proximity to the local Stannary town of Chagford, West Devon and Dartmoor National Park.
The cottage provides the perfect stay for couples looking to explore the region. The accommodation is extremely spacious and beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped. The surrounding hedged gardens are so lovely with ponds, an orchard, abundance of wonderful plants and flowers and so well maintained. The land around the cottage provides the opportunity to walk and explore or sit and enjoy this lovely environment. There is also a garden and seating to enjoy directly outside the cottage.
The owners property sits next to Monks cottage and Nicky and Si are the most delightful, hospitable hosts you could imagine. They are interesting, friendly and extremely helpful. Their enthusiasm and energy for the property and their beautiful surroundings is infectious!!! You cannot help feeling the warmth and passion these lovely hosts have given to their much loved lifestyle and the effort and work that has been put in to achieve what they have and now share with others.
This was the most enjoyable four days away we could have spent and we would highly recommend.

"The property and grounds were amazing."
We loved the cottage, had everything we could ever want. So relaxing we didn't want to leave. The surrounding gardens are beautifully kept by owners and having access to fields and walks was fantastic for our dog.
Hosts Nicky and Simon are a lovely couple, so helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable on the area.
Its so lovely there we have already booked our return visit and can't wait.
How nice to know that Lorraine and Clive will be coming back to Monks Cottage in May. Dartmoor is so beautiful in the Spring - perfect for long walks with gentle Brylie. Thank you for being perfect guests and leaving Monks Cottage immaculate.

"A truly great find for this part of Devon with very easy access to the A30."
Monks cottage is attached to the property owners own house and you have access to a wonderful field for walking a canine friend. The accommodation is faultless and has a very homely feel , for those that have been you will no what i mean . Your hosts Nicky and Simon have 25 years of local knowledge and go above and beyond making you feel very welcome into the home. Will definitely come back as Simon has more stories to tell me !

The area is beautiful, the cottage is lovely and spacious (with great lighting and plenty of electrical outlets), and the hosts are fabulous! Like many other reviewers, I felt that Monk's was more of a home away from home than a rental. I had some car problems and Nicky and Simon went out of their way to help me. "We have stayed at many holiday cottages over the years and this was, without a doubt, the best of the best of the best."
The property itself was of an extremely high standard; it felt more like a home than somewhere you just rent for a week. The locality is wonderful. The views of the fields - all of which are completely accessible - are a lovely thing to wake up to first thing in the morning.
As for our hosts, we feel that we have been staying with some new friends. They couldn't do enough for us and we felt so welcome. We will be back VERY soon.
What lovely, life enhancing and appreciative people you two are! We are so pleased to know you both had a really peaceful, really happy holiday and felt so much at home in Monks Cottage. "Having just returned from a magical week at Monks we can't wait to return!"
Waking to the sound of buzzards every morning in the enormous bed with beautiful views was a real highlight. Nicky and Si couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, doing everything they could to ensure it felt like a real home from home. The house and grounds are simply stunning - we love Dartmoor and visit often, but this was our most relaxing stay so far. Thank you for taking such good care of us, we had a wonderful country escape!

A picturesque town at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. Chagford, one of the five Stannary towns of Dartmoor, is small in size but is packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs. Chagford also has more active facilities such as public tennis court and a seasonal, open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure. It is a town of great history, home to the Three Crowns Hotel which dates back to the 1200's. Chagford is well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals in the town as well as an annual running race, known as Two Hills Race. Just over 21 miles away is the bustling, beautiful city of Exeter for a different kind of break, definitely worth a visit. The charming, attractive town of Okehampton sits just 12 miles away.
