  • "The property is not suitable for young families due to all the steps both upstairs and down and outside."

It’s not made clear that the downstairs shower room was off the conservatory area. Wasn’t suitable for family use. The garden wasn’t dog friendly due to all the outdoor stairs. The decking was dangerous when wet. I use a walking stick and it was impossible for me to take the dog out into the garden.

  • "I’ve marked this cottage down as it had a really bad mouldy/damp smell in the lounge and master bedroom."

There was mould in the corner of the lounge. These cottages are really expensive now and we expect the standard to be perfect. I see the price has been marked down now, we paid full price which was a lot for what we got. It’s such a shame as the size is great, the garden is good for the dogs, the beds were comfortable and the sofa not bad. Great bedding and towels. It’s a quiet location with good access to Lyme Regis. There was a welcome pack, much appreciated, especially the coffee. Very well equipped kitchen. With a bit more TLC it could be amazing. I know it’s an old property but damp and mould can be sorted out.

  • "Hillside cottage is a well a maintained house with all the amenities listed, however we didn't receive our expected welcome pack as mentioned by previous guests and I had to pick up 5 bags of dog poo from the garden and remove a live snail from a bedroom picture !"

!!. The enclosed garden was fabulous for our dog and the sunroom was very relaxing, its a shame all 4 outside chairs were damaged with only 2 available to use. The main issue with the house is the damp smell present in the 2 old rooms on the ground floor which at time made the sofas feel a bit damp. Overall we enjoyed our stay and I think these matters could be easily addressed.

  • "Perfect for a relaxing stay in countryside with Lyme Regis a short drive away."

Weather was lovely so we made the most of the wonderful garden area, which the dog also loved. Kitchen very well stocked, lovely welcome pack, really enjoyed the special coffee and biscuits. Facilities as published with lovely showers, great to have walk in one, as upstairs bathroom ceiling quite low. Sun Room was great for relaxing in - a sofa in there would be amazing!. Lounge was chilly/felt damp at times, but in the heat it was appreciated. Lots of small steps in and out of each room, low ceilings did catch my husband out a fair bit, which is part of the character but not good for tall visitors. My teenage daughter loved the back bedroom - sunsets and view! Small point - quite cobwebby in some parts and only clock that worked was in double bedroom. The only downside for walking the dog, was there is no pavement into the village and the B road that runs parallel to the road where the cottage is can be busy and has blind corners, so you could only walk him up the lane, which you still had no pavement. We took him out on long walks from town or nearby areas, of which there are some lovely ones. We really enjoyed our stay though, but you do need a car to go anywhere in our opinion, although Axminster station is not far by car and we did go by train to Exeter for the day. All in all, it was a lovely cottage in a pretty area, great for some downtime. We came back refreshed. Thank you.

  • "The cottage was in a rural setting, so if you don't drive, I wouldn't recommend it."

It had everything you need in the kitchen. The lounge is quite small & has a small smart tv (although you'd have to sign in to your own accounts, which we couldn't do) We found the rooms to be cold but the heaters soon warmed up! Quite a few cobwebs in the property! But otherwise, quite clean!! We loved the spacious garden & decking area. Very good for dogs to be out there! Bear in mind, the master bedroom only has a shower in & NOT a toilet! The toilet is in the main bathroom with shower over a bath! All in all, very happy with it!

Glad you enjoyed your stay. I will let the housekeeper know about the cobwebs! Thank you - KW Property Owner

  • "The property was in a great position with lovely views, however is smelt very damp."

I live in an old cottage and it doesn’t smell like Hillside. I also felt it wasn’t as clean as it could be. The table cloth hadn’t been wiped, and we had a few ants in the kitchen. Also dog hairs in the corners. The bedding was clean as were the bath rooms and towels. Just needs a bit of TLC

The cottage had everything we needed, there was plenty of space for the 6 of us and the garden and views were as lovely as ever. Just a shame about the weather!

  • "Hillside Cottage is well equipped, comfortable and in a lovely location perfect for visiting the area."

Very dog friendly. Would certainly re book and recommend it particularly to friends with dogs. The only negative comment I have is when we arrived it felt a bit damp but to be fair it is an old cottage and it did improve when we put the heating on. It lacks heating in the hall, middle room and kitchen but every where else is warm and cosy.

  • "We had a wonderful week (apart from the weather) in this wonderful cottage."

Everything you could want is provided, kitchen is well equipped, beds are all super comfy and the lounge and snug are lovely to relax in. Access to the internet it hit and miss, but I would be surprised if the little lane it’s up has fibre broadband and it hurts no one to spend less time on the screens! Easy to get to lovely beaches and plenty of shops and supermarkets are near by. Garden area is a sun trap and would have spent much more time on the deck watching the kids play had it not rained! All in all a lovely, well considered cottage which accommodated our family perfectly and we had a wonderful time, we will definitely be looking at availability again!

So glad you enjoyed your stay at Hillside Cottage. You are right about the lack of fibre broadband - but 4G works well. Please do come again! KW Property Owner

Everything was very clean and tidy and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. The only problem was the internet router was not in the house. Lyme Bay Holidays dealt with this very efficiently on the Monday and returned it during the day.

Hi, Thank you for your lovely comments re Hillside Cottage. Many apologies for the lack of wifi for the first few days - unfortunately the Post Office failed to deliver the router on time, meaning that we could not connect it before your arrival (out of our hands, unfortunately!). All the little things you might need were there. We only had a few issues - the garden chairs were ‘end of life’, the Wifi was fine for 4 days then nothing and please could there be a larger tea pot then definitely a 5 star rating.

Thanks for your feedback - glad you enjoyed your stay at Hillside Cottage! We shall replace the entire garden table/chairs set at the end of this season, and a new, larger teapot is on its way! Please do come again - K. Property Owner

  • "Well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, warm and cosy."

Firewood provided was a bonus. Books, DVD's, buckets and spades for entertaining kids and adults. Mould in upstairs shower. Downstairs floors not hoovered (covered in dog hair). Washing machine full of dog hair and smelling of mould. We found the table sticky and covered in breadcrumbs. A used washing up sponge was sitting on one of the chairs.

I do apologise if the cottage didn't meet our normal expected standards of cleanliness and have passed your comments onto our Housekeeping Team. • "You definitely need a car which isn't a problem for us but should be made clearer in description."

The foot path to Lyme is accessed by first walking on a pretty dangerous single track road. The locals don't slow down. We loved this cottage but the damp feel due to the age of the property wouldn't be everyone's cup if tea. Price was a bit high. Jumping from £800 to £1200 in one year for a 3 bed property seemed a bit steep.

  • "I hadn't appreciated from the photos just how old this house is."

As a result, the floor levels are up and down with step changes throughout the house, and steep stairs. The cottage is well-appointed, though the quooker tap wasn't working so Lyme Bay Holidays provided a kettle. The bathrooms were all very clean. The wifi was patchy. The sunny garden is a treat.
