  • "Absolutely immaculate, very well equipped and comfortable, exactly as described and wonderful view from The Shippon."

    Would happily recommend.

  • "We enjoyed our week at this property which is in a rural setting overlooking the hills."

It didn't bother us but if you are looking for a tranquil stay you can hear the traffic from the main road. The barn was very basic compared to other places we have stayed over the years. The mattress in the ensuite room was very worn and not one to get a comfortable night sleep on. The owners live on site but the barn is private and has plenty of outdoor space including private terrace with outdoor furniture, which was a bonus having the sun loungers. A good base for getting out and about to explore. Excellent farm shop just 2 miles drive or Tesco 5 minutes drive.

  • "Beautiful setting with stunning views."

The Shippon was comfortable and spacious and with a huge field to exercise our two spaniels. Lots of places within 10 miles to visit with scenic walks to Golden Cap, highly recommend.

Dear Gill, Many thanks for your lovely review. May we also thank you for leaving the Shippon in such an immaculate condition! That was so appreciated. Best wishes Kathryn Property Owner

  • "Shippon is located in a lovely area and has beautiful views."

The cottage was clean and well presented. Whilst some of the pictures/descriptions showed stairs we were unaware of the fact that there were no handrails which we felt was a health & Safety issue especially as 4 of us were 70 - 82 years old. Also the area to allow dogs free rein to run was some way from the cottage and on a significant slope which was difficult fr us oldies! However the cottage would be ideal for younger folk.

David, we are sorry you were not entirely happy. It would help us if your comments were published to explain the scoring, and give context. You are correct to point out that on our farm, our surfaces beyond the Shippon terrace are not entirely flat. Our fenced fields are where we recommend you free run your dogs, and these are gently sloping. We will consider whether we could put handrails on the step-ups between levels, but can in no way make the building or setting Part M compliant, due to the heritage constraints. The property

The Shippon is one of two beautiful barn conversions on Wyke Farm, the owner's 17th century, grade II listed farmstead that lies just outside the market town of Axminster, and is surrounded by the glorious rolling countryside of East Devon.

With views that stretch over the Axe Valley, with the popular resort of Lyme Regis on the Dorset Jurassic Coast just 5 miles away, this is a perfect destination for a peaceful and relaxing holiday where you are well positioned to explore the coast and countryside on your doorstep.

Facing out across the countryside, a gravel pathway slopes up from the parking to the patio and gravel garden.

Step inside into the open plan living space with vaulted ceilings, beams and a full length patio doors and windows, this room is bright and welcoming.

A country kitchen sits at the far end of the room and two squashy comfortable sofas are centrally positioned providing the perfect spot for relaxation whilst soaking up the warmth of the fire (Starter pack only for fire provided) and taking in the beautiful views through patio doors.

Raised up a level, the dining area allows you to enjoy the full view of this lovely room.

Two steps up from the dining room takes you to a twin room and double room with super-king bed that can be divided into two singles.

There is a family bathroom at this end of the barn.

At the opposite end, three steps lead down to the master double with stable door, TV and en-suite shower room.

Outside, a spacious patio looks out across the rolling countryside of the Axe Valley and is equipped with tables and chairs.

There is a charcoal BBQ (charcoal not provided) available and plenty of parking.

Axminster is just 2 miles away where you will find shops for provisions, a number of pubs and good restaurants and the River Cottage Canteen.

River Cottage HQ is popular for weddings and is just outside the town.

Family friendly beaches can be found at Lyme Regis and Charmouth, both close by where are also a number of lovely eateries, cafes and shops.

Enjoy the South West Coast Path and if you are up for a challenge, a walk to the top of the famous Golden Cap, Dorset's heights point where the views are breath taking.

For little ones, the Axe Valley Nature Reserve can be found just outside of Axminster, and the famous Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth is a must visit for any age.

The Shippon is a wonderful rural getaway with the coast on the doorstep and perfect at any time of year.
