  • "My stay at Barton Cottage provided me with the oasis that I needed."

The cottage was cosy & had everything to make me feel ‘at home’.A special touch with the cream tea & flowers made a good welcome for me. My dog was happy & we enjoyed short walks near the property & were spoilt for choice for our afternoons out- Lyme Regis was our top choice! I am happy to endorse these comments & would stay again in the future.. Sara

  • "I emailed you from the cottage."

Incredibly dissatisfied with the location and condition. Had we known it was right next to the A35 we would not have booked. Two nights unable to sleep due to the incessant noise from cars speeding down the A35, it went on throughout the night. Mould in the bathroom and a general air of neglect. The general state of the cottage left a lot to be desired. Has anyone from Sykes been to check it out.....? We have an annex at our Hampshire home and consistently get 10 out of 10 from guests, Barton cottage would rate three at best on our scale Will not be recommending this to anyone, Its an incredible disappointment given that it was a 60th birthday surprise for me fiancé. Someone from your company needs to visit this cottage and ask themselves would they pay the amount we have paid. Is there a way of sending pictures of mould, please advise We feel cheated and feel a refund would be appropriate Sincerely

  • "I should of read the listing more closely and I would of realised that the cottage was on two levels."

I have a spine injury that makes stairs very difficult and painful for me so I probably would not of booked it. This is not the cottage fault but me not taking enough time over the advert. The cottage itself is finished to a very good standard, with a modern kitchen and ground floor toilet and shower room. It is a bit tight on space in places but for the two of us it was perfectly OK. The main road that you have to cross to turn into the property if you are coming from Bridport is a bit of a challenge as it is busy with fast traffic, in fact i drove past to where the dual carriageway started and there is a slip road to turn right which I found safer. Overall the cottage is of a good standard and well maintained.

  • "This cottage is just about OK for two but for four it would be uncomfortable."

The downsides were: Awful smell of damp in the bathroom Lumpy beds and pillows Minimum kitchen equipment, crockery etc As warned, the traffic noise is bad outside so not very relaxing. Inside it is less audible.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We will look into the damp smell, we have not noticed this ourselves. Each bed has two foam pillows and two feather pillows, I'm sorry it didn't suit. Property Owner

  • "I actually took things like washing up liquid & tea towels etc but that was all there as well as tea & coffee, milk and a very nice cream tea."

the cottage is just off the road making it very handy for both the Bridport & Dorchester directions. I had the bedroom window open all night and i wasn't disturbed by traffic noise, you can hear it but it isn't terrible. It is cozy and the enclosed front garden kept my dog safe. The host is nearby if you do need anything and is very friendly and so i would recommend as a good base for exploring the Dorset coast.

A heated towel rail might be a useful addition. The cottage was exactly as described and met all our needs.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us. That's a good idea for when the heating is not on. Best wishes. Esther Property Owner

Beaches only 10 minutes drive away, would definitely go back for longer stay, lovely little cottage, lovely part of the country. Beaches are great for fishing, caught 2 big bass for dinner. Angling shop in west bay very helpful, and seagull restaurant also west bay, great food again very friendly. whole weekend 10/10 even with the, unlucky weather.

Wowee, I didn't get the chance to chat to you about where you caught the bass. That's brilliant. So glad that you enjoyed your stay. Best wishes Esther Property Owner

About the location

BRIDPORT

Lyme Regis 10 miles; West Bay 2 miles.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Bridport’s market is regularly featured on the River Cottage TV programme. 2 miles south of Bridport is the dramatic Jurassic coast at West Bay, now a World Heritage Site, home to the backdrop for TV's Harbour Lights and the coastal setting for popular Broadchurch, whilst the picturesque resort of Lyme Regis is within 10 miles. A superb base for exploring wonderful West Dorset.
