Cottage was ideal for our week’s holiday in the area with wonderful views. Made very welcome by our host with a cream tea and treats for our pet in cottage on arrival.

Nice secure area to sit out in for both myself and my pooch. Very friendly host who apologised on my arrival as she hadn't left any dog treats out! The Dorset Cream tea and milk along with the welcome card and fresh flowers were a nice surprise. Road noise mentioned before but not as bad as stated by other reviews, guess its what your used to.

Although the weather was changeable it didn't stop us visiting the lovely Dorset coast and countryside, all easily accesible from the cottage, the view from the cottage itself was stunning. Everything was immaculate when we arrived and the cream tea and flowers were a lovely surprise. Esther, the owner, was nearby if we had needed anything and we had a couple of nice chats with her over the week. Thank you Esther for making our stay so enjoyable.

  • "Firstly the cottage is placed perfect for sightseeing."

Everything we wanted to see and do was not far from the cottage. Brilliant. When we arrived, not what we expected. 1. First impression, shabby, over grown plants, paint work shocking, front door in a terrible state. Really wanted to turn round and go home. 2. Two more cottages at the side, caused a commotion when we parked as no designated spot for The Sty. 3. Cottage virtually sits on the A35. Noise from this busy road is shocking. The road noise is continuous day and night. 4. Children running past cottage. Renovations to owners home. Not a relaxing break we were hoping for. 5. No cleaning equipment. Eg liquid for kitchen or bathroom just empty bottles. We stuck it out for a week, but after 15 plus years of renting dog friendly cottages this was the worse one ever. Sorry but description and photos on Sykes Cottages website is not true to life.

I'm shocked and very disappointed by your experience of our cottage, we aim to provide a wonderful holiday home for our guests to enjoy. The cottage is a barn conversion, I will look at cutting back the passion flower plant at the door. We have plenty of parking around the 4 acre site, I can only apologise for another guests response to the location of your car. We do state in our listing about the traffic noise from the road. The cottage is 40ft off the road but it is busy and audible across our site. Our properties are family friendly and therefore children may be present. We were painting our house during your visit, I apologise for the disturbance this caused to your break. I personally make sure every bottle of washing up liquid and hand soap is full before guests arrive. I am very sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. I write a welcome card asking guests to get in contact if they have any problems, I wish I could have helped and made you more comfortable during your holiday. The photos were taken this year by me and are of our cottage. Property Owner

We’re very welcoming. We were put off by the heavy traffic on the A 35 the first day. And our rescue dog was more so with loud noises. But after. 24 hrs. And Lexie the dog we were used to it. Lexie even sitting in the garden area. Taking in the sun. Stunning countryside. If In the area. We would. Book again Lovely gesture. Of a cream tea being left. No hesitation in recommending it. Everything as. Stated Rosemary.

  • "Just got back from a 2 week stay, i didnt want to leave!"

The owners were so friendly and helpful. With the hot weather, she even went out to buy fans for each of the cottages which was so kind. Yes, there is traffic noise throughout the day and night, but personally i got used to it and it just became background noise. The cottage is situated in the perfect spot for exploring, less than 10 minutes from West Bay, and most other villages and towns within 30 minutes. Fully equipped cottage with everything i needed. As a lone traveller it was nice to know i wasnt in such a secluded place, with other cottages and the owners house nearby. Was a perfect stay for me and my 2 Chihuahua pups. And Ester and her family made me feel so welcome. Thankyou for such a lovely holiday.

Fab to meet you and your gorgeous boys. Thank you for choosing The Sty. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again. Best wishes Esther Property Owner

  • "Although it did say road noise was to be expected it was awful keeping us awake at night and unable to have the door open in the day."

The cottage is basic and in need of a lot of TLC especially windows that had gaps in the view through the kitchen window would of been lovely but for the fact that the double glazing was shot and steamed up. The heating came on when not needed and there was no way to put it on in the daytime if needed.

Being beside the A35 does mean road noise is unavoidable. I am so sorry it disturbed you on your holiday. The cottages are all having their woodwork refurbished and The Sty is booked in when it next becomes vacant and the carpenters are available. There is an electric fire in each cottage for warmth when needed. We live onsite and are willing and available to help, as offered in the welcome card. Property Owner

We thought this was so nice, also tea, coffe and milk, and after a long journey was much appreciated. The cottage is close to the road, but this isn’t an issue, and we were close to so many beautiful places. The welcome flowers were a nice thought, and so much information provided in the welcome pack. The only downfall for us , was the mattress, it was very uncomfortable, definitely would recommend a new one, it’s a shame to have to give a negative, but have to be honest. Thank you to Ester for your hospitality

About the location

BRIDPORT

Lyme Regis 10 miles; West Bay 2 miles.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Bridport’s market is regularly featured on the River Cottage TV programme. 2 miles south of Bridport is the dramatic Jurassic coast at West Bay, now a World Heritage Site, home to the backdrop for TV's Harbour Lights and the coastal setting for popular Broadchurch, whilst the picturesque resort of Lyme Regis is within 10 miles.
