  • "We have stayed at Bethel cottage before and love its peaceful location and proximity to the town and footpaths."

The beds are very comfortable and kitchen diner very spacious and well equipped. We enjoyed wonderful weather so were able to sit outside under the awning. The only negatives were the slightly smelly downstairs loo and that we didn’t seem to have an outside rubbish bin, or ‘basket/ bin’ for glass recycling. A pizza cutter would also be appreciated, but all in all a great and homely cottage.

  • "Bethel Cottage is in a great location, the cottage is lovely and the garden a delight, sadly the housekeeping was shocking, there was a whole fingernail and hair all around the shower in the upstairs bathroom, dog hairs on the supposed clean duvet and in the bed, the twin had not been changed to a king as requested before the stay and had been confirmed by email."

Windowsills hadn't been cleaned and generally it felt as though the whole place needed a deep clean which the housekeeper that was sent to sort this agreed with, I understand that this is not the owners fault as Lyme Bay are responsible for the housekeeping. There is a drain smell to the bathrooms and the mattress in the main bedroom shorter than the bed base which is not great and the outside chairs are past fit for purpose and dangerous. If these issues were put right Bethel Cottage would be a great place to stay but sadly it was not a great way to start your holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your stay. We are very apologetic that the property was not up to standard upon your arrival, we understand that our on call cleaner was with you within half an hour from the initial report and rectified all present issues. The owner will replace the outdoor chairs on their next visit. Glad you to hear that you agree that Bethel Cottage is in a great location right by the river. Thank you again for your comments and we hope that you will return to Dorset soon. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely time at Bethel Cottage, great location and beautiful setting."

A few improvements could be made, in the king size bedroom you could do with blackout curtains or blinds due to the street lights and sun rise. In the double room a larger mattress is required to fit the bed frame. The downstairs toilet/shower room had a rotten smell all of the time we were there, even after running the tap and shower. But overall the house was lovely. Thanks

  • "On the whole, we loved Bethal Cottage."

It's location was great. It was well stocked and as ever the welcome pack is lovely. However, it does need some tlc to make it come up to the grade it was marketed at. In the garden the chairs/table need rubbing down and revarnshing. Not nice to sit on with bare legs! There are only two cushion sets (for a house that sleeps 6) The garden is a great size but there is no shade. There is a metal structure which we believe should have a sail on it? Even an umbrella in a weighted stand (stored in the shed) would be appreciated. The hose does have a spray attachment but it shoots off as soon the water's turned on. Essential equipment with dogs in the property. In the house. We were confused as to why the mattress to the double bed, in the second bedroom, was 6 inches short in the frame? Not comfortable for a 6' adult! In the lounge, only 1 bulb worked in the 3 wall lights? We believe the dates for rubbish and recycling are incorrect in the folder? All these points are minor but fixable in a day and given rental prices for properties have risen significantly they should be addressed.

We are so pleased you loved our cottage, I'm sorry you experienced a few problems, the light bulbs and bed have been sorted and eight outdoor chair covers are now in the shed, the sail is on its way but the manufacturers have had sizing problems and the two sails previously sent were too small, the new one should be with us in the next couple of weeks, many thanks Claire Riddiford Property Owner

Clean, comfortable - the lounge area is not big enough for 6 people, however for two of us was fine. With it being out of season, a lot of the local restaurants were closed, but due to it being so quiet I guess.

  • "We had a lovely weekend break at Bethal Cottage."

It’s in a very pretty setting next to the river and a fairly short walk into town. It was very clean and cosy and had everything you could want for cooking etc. The welcome package was a nice touch too with local products including fudge and apple juice. The garden is a good size and great for my dog. Only complaints are that the duvets were a bit thin and could have done with some extra blankets as it’s cold at night. The awning in the garden above the seating area was dangerously full of rainwater, however this was rectified quickly after a call to the agent. The wardrobe in the master bedroom was full of IKEA bags so I couldn’t hang my clothes up. Lastly the fridge is much too small for 6 people with big appetites. These issues wouldn’t stop us from booking agsin though as I’m sure they’re easy to rectify.

We're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Bethel Cottage. There has been an unusual amount of rainfall recently, and as a local agent we are always happy to assist with any maintenance issues you may experience. Apologies that you found the duvets to be too thin, there are thicker winter duvets available so we will ensure that these are on the beds going forwards. The owner is going to buy a bigger fridge/freezer. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Inadequate sized fridge for a family of 6 who self cater."

Unloading and loading very difficult because of where the cottage is situated. There should be something mentioned about this in the write up for the property. Frame in middle bedroom should fit the mattress size, rather than being 2 inches wider all the way round !! Lyme Bay Holidays engineer responded speedily to fix a washing machine problem. The staff in Lyme are exceptionally helpful and have excellent local knowledge.

Following some recent feedback we have updated the travel information for guests to advise it may be easier to reverse along the road in order to unload/load. We hope that you enjoyed your stay. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Arrival instructions by car give directions along Jericho which is a dead end with no turning area."

Unloading is easy at the rear of the property where you can drive down Avenue Road and park near the back gate.

Thank you for your suggestions, we have revised our travel information to make it clearer that the turning space is limited and it may be easier to reverse along the road. We hope you had a pleasant stay. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Second visit in three years."

Lovely cottage but disappointing. Dusty, dog hair on bedding, kettle broken, frying pan can't use on induction hob, leaking tap, heating on in day but not in the evening when cold, woodburner door doesn't shut properly, peanuts under the bed, general state was a little neglected. On a positive it is furnished tastefully, great kitchen/dining area, good sized bedrooms and good facilities. Location is also a massive plus . It needs a new wood burner, a spring clean, and care and attention.

  • "Wonderful cottage and location."

We all really enjoyed staying here and would recommend and book again. The only thing worth mentioning for the owners is the neighbour next door, a few evenings we heard loud shouting from the neighbour, sometimes in her house but sometimes out of the door/window at people outside.

  • "We arrived at the property in the dark; the instructions for parking (the location of the property and space) need to be clearer."

The property postcode is down an extremely narrow lane (only way out is to reverse!) On arrival, there were a couple of cleanliness issues; the kitchen bin had not been emptied from the previous guests’ stay for example. Other random issue we had is frequent shouting/screaming/swearing of the woman living next door; this would occur at various times during the day/night. Finally, we would point out the beds from a comfort perspective; the mattresses were too small for the bed frames, the pillows were a bit flat and the bed sheets didn’t seem to fit properly.

  • "Lovely cottage, perfect location for everything and still secluded."

Not cluttered, just right for a holiday and the garden was a great place to relax in the sun. Would say 5 stars but we think it could be cleaner and benefit massively from small improvements e.g. some clothes pegs, proper ice cube tray, treat outside furniture. Issues seem related to the agency rather than the property itself though, it's a great property just needing some small touches. Would definitely book again if those are sorted.

  • "Very nice property, the no parking at property was no issue as a very short walk to the permit parking."

The house was lovely, perfectly located close to all amenities. However the cleaners had missed a lot of areas - which we wouldn’t have expected at the price now being charged. There was a washing machine which we would have used if there had been some washing detergent. In general a lack of basic stuff like salt and pepper and oil. We appreciate this may be a Covid related thing - if that is the case perhaps a message to those renting the house to take basic cooking/washing essentials

  • "Bethel Cottage is a pretty terraced cottage by the River Lym, away from the busy seafront but within easy walking distance."

We found it well placed for the walks we enjoy inland as well as the town centre. Sunny garden but with a shaded area over the terrace. We particularly liked the spacious kitchen dining area, a perfect family space with access on to the garden. The only drawback was the light bedroom curtains which meant early wake ups due to light June mornings!

  • "We knew where Bethel Cottage was having previously walked passed it, but upon arrival, we were even more delighted with the location than we'd remembered, the river, the garden - lovely."

It was perfect for our family group with lots of space for the five of us. It had everything we needed and we had a great holiday, with a mix of being at the cottage and going out. Just a couple of points, hopefully constructive, the bed in the middle room - the mattress wasn't quite the right size for the bedframe, so my son ended up filling the gap with pillows, one of the plates on the rack in the kitchen was chipped and one of the cutting boards looked like someone had crayoned on it! Little things I know, none of which spoilt our holiday, or would deter me from returning/recommending the property but thought they would be worth noting. My husband lost his glasses mid-holiday and we were most impressed by the service we received from Lyme Bay Holidays in trying to find them - which we did - thank you so much, it was so appreciated.
