  • "Malabar House was a delightful home with excellent facilities and location."

The house was immaculate and so comfortable with everything you needed to make it a great place to relax and enjoy. Comfy beds, super American style fridge freezer and range with plenty of space for our party of 6 people and our small cockerpoo. Would highly recommend this house for Lyme Regis.

  • "What a lovely house in a great location, we loved the fact we could be on the beach or into town within a few short steps."

Don’t be worried bout the road outside as you can be off the main road in less than a minute into quiet streets or pedestrianised areas. The rear courtyard was a haven during a hot day when we needed to retreat from the beach. The layout of the Kitchen, Living Room and Courtyard makes a lovely area for outdoor dining and socialising. The support from the Lyme Bay team when we locked ourselves out by accident during a Tesco delivery was prompt efficient and kind. The provided car space is a few minutes walk away and it is easy to park in a nearby street for a few minutes to unload before you move the car to the car park. Would throughly recommend. • "Overall a lovely house and close to the beach and sea."

Gullbags hard to find and not mentioned in paperwork where it was kept. No sidetables for drinks. Settees could have been more comfortable and wooden armchairs were not great to sit in for any length of time. Took a long time for Sykes to answer messages. In fact I would not use Sykes again to book a holiday but stay with direct communication like airbnbnb and with owner. For weeks they did not recognise me as the purchaser of 2 expensive holiday houses holidays and kept referring to data protection. Eventually they recognised it was their error and corrected the contact details.

  • "A lovely house with a lot of history alongside modern living - it felt like stepping back into a Jane Austen novel."

Super decor and very comfortable - a gorgeous house with a stunning enclosed patio garden. The location and layout was perfect for us - 6 adults and a young dog.

The house has everything you need, lots of space and a lovely courtyard garden which we were lucky enough to enjoy sunshine in everyday! The welcome pack was a really lovely touch and the team were super helpful with any questions we had before we went and during our stay. The location of the house is brilliant, it’s a few minutes from the sea front with everything on your door stop. We had a fantastic holiday here and will definitely look to come again!

  • "A lovely historical property, spacious and beautifully appointed, with a lot of thought having gone into it."

It had absolutely everything we needed for our stay and was very comfortable. A welcome pack awaited us filled with local products. The location was perfect with the only drawback being the distance from car parking and the inability to unload directly outside. A special mention to Mark from Lyme Bay Holidays for his considerable help.

From beginning to end there has been nothing we've needed that isn't provided. The welcome pack was exactly that. Very welcome. The rooms are gorgeous and so comfortable. The location is perfect, just a shame we couldn't have stayed longer!

The property

Malabar House is a Grade II listed building, located in the centre of the picturesque seaside town of Lyme Regis on the UNESCO Jurassic Coast in Dorset.

Believed to be one of the towns oldest buildings, Malabar House has been sympathetically restored to become an exceptional four bedroomed holiday home with superb facilities yet beautifully retaining its historical charm and character.

Behind the imposing double fronted façade, you will be welcomed into a bright interior thoughtfully arranged for larger families or groups of friends to enjoy a memorable holiday whatever the occasion.

The drawing room is an impressive space with a wealth of original features including a grand fireplace, original ceiling beams and carefully restored window shutters; bedecked with period furniture and plush seating, this spacious and charming room is the perfect place to retreat to at the end of the day.

Towards the rear of the house, is the real heart of this home with a stylish yet individual kitchen perfectly equipped for family holidays and informal eating around the farmhouse style kitchen table.

Doors open onto a delightful courtyard seating area, with table and chairs, considered planting and feature lighting creating a space to savour alfresco dining or a sociable drink during the warmer summer evenings.

The separate and more relaxed garden sitting room is a delight with French doors flooding the room with light and opening onto the courtyard.

For special occasions and formal gatherings there is a magnificent dining room, again with many character features seen throughout this most extraordinary period property.

Heading up the feature staircase, you will reach the four bedrooms, all opulently styled and furnished with a restful night’s sleep in mind.

The three spacious king-size bedrooms, all with impressive en-suite shower rooms, have retained many original features including fireplaces with over mantel mirrors and wall panelling rediscovered during the recent renovations; the fourth bedroom, a delightful twin room, has use of the family bathroom also located on this floor.

Located in the heart of the old part of town, there is so much to see and do all within easy distance from Malabar House.

Step outside and you are literally moments from the seafront with its promenade, sandy beaches, and iconic Cobb harbour, perfect for lazy summer days or soaking in the sea air at any time of the year.

The town has a superb selection of independent shops perfect for everyday needs, including local delis and the Town Mill bakery.

Food lovers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to meals out, whether its savouring fish and chips on the seafront or enjoying one of the many popular pubs serving freshly cooked local produce.

For a special occasion why not try The Oyster and Fish House or Tom’s on the seafront, both offering unrivalled views of the sea.

When it comes to days out, head to nearby Beer, a quaint village surrounded by white chalk cliffs, the shingle beach is lined with fishing boats still bringing in their daily catches and is famous for its mackerel.

Other family favourite destinations include Charmouth with its Heritage Centre where you can learn about the Jurassic Coast and the areas rich geology, joining one of the guided fossil walks and trying your hand at finding your very own ammonites on the shore.

Experience a slice of Lyme’s history and book a stay to remember at the truly remarkable Malabar House.

For the security of the building and guests: There is a security camera located by the front entrance (external) that is always operational. There is one other located just inside the entrance hallway (internal) which is switched off when guests are in residence.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £350.
