  • "Property filthy, mould on the bath mat, shower curtain and bath plug."

Round the window in the bathroom is mouldy. Bath temperature goes to freezing every few minutes. Dirty in kitchen including where the wall is breaking away. Radiator in the bathroom is full of rust and the towel rail fell apart on the first day. Thick dust on all the light fittings. Towels are thin and well worn, no hand towels. Lack of home comforts for a very cold house (blankets) Lighting in master bedroom is pointless with the dimmer switch broken. Knob to turn the cooker on is broken. Damp in the lounge and poorly decorated. Extremely poorly equipped kitchen. Kitchen cupboards smell of mould so crockery smells. Knives are blunt and unusable. Sieve is covered in rust and limescale. 3 matching wine glasses and mismatched drinking glasses. Side plates are scratched and not nice to use, very basic mismatched equipment. The kick boards in the kitchen are broken and there is dirt along the open cabinets in the kitchen. Dust across most of the beams in the kitchen. Dyson hoover plug attached to the wall with no hoover. Under-stairs landlord storage is messy as well as storage bags and Christmas tree box not put away. Soap in the downstairs toilet was left empty as well as cleaning products under the sink. Kitchen sponge is old and unusable. Welcome pack is limited. Bin collection is wrong so we weren’t able to put the bins out. Empty bottle from previous guest left outside the side door and the side access is filthy. No explanation or reviews of local restaurants, all information that could be googled. Walks would be more useful to be from Lyme Regis. We book with Sykes twice a year but after the state of this property we will be looking to book with a different company.

Thank you for your comments and we are terribly sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Riverdance Cottage. Following your departure, we have conducted a thorough inspection of the property and have gone to look at the specific concerns you have raised. We have fixed the oven hob button and have put the kick board in the kitchen back into place, so this shouldn't occur as an issue again. We have also tested the taps in bathroom, but didn't notice a change in the temperature, so I can only apologise that this happened during your stay. While we want everything to be perfect for a guest's arrival, if you feel we have fallen short of this, it is very important to let us know at the time so that we can rectify any mistake. We agree that there are some areas in the cottage which need painting and decorating and I am pleased to say that this has been organised and is being sorted in a matter of weeks. Riverdance Cottage boasts a wonderful proximity to the town and the sea, but as it is situated so close to the River Lim, the property can suffer from damp and mould if left alone. We do our very best to be reactive with anything like this and for properties that are a little older and more historic in the town. From a cleaning perspective, we have investigated into the points you have made and we agree we have failed to meet our usual guest standard on points like the soap being empty in the toilet downstairs, the Christmas tree being visible along with dust being visible. We have addressed and actioned these points as well. With the welcome pack, a brand-new copy has been dropped off into the property with all the helpful information our guests can use, i.e. up to date information on bin collection, where to eat, local walks and much more info. I am sorry to see that you have decided to not book a property with us again and if there is anything we can do to help you decide against this then please let us know. Property Owner

  • "Very cosy, comfortable & well-equipped cottage in the very heart of Lyme Regis."

Just a stone’s throw from sea front & the main shopping street with an abundance of cafes & pubs. Very impressed with all the facilities in the property and for the trouble the owners had taken to provide a detailed welcome pack with milk and snacks. The only slight issue was that the water in the shower went cold temporarily every few minutes - however, once knowing that the hot water would return after a few seconds it was no problem, and possibly just a case of supply issues in the area. The absence of parking was no problem at all - we booked a private driveway a few minutes walk away, and were able to stop temporarily about 20 yards up the road for the cottage to unload. Would definitely stay here again if re-visiting Lyme Regis.

  • "Basic cottage in the best location."

2 min walk to the beach, two bakeries next door. Be aware that the woodmead parking is £80 per week.

Thank you for your review. We’re delighted that you enjoyed the location of the cottage. We are disappointed however to hear that you have found the cottage to be ‘basic’ as previous guests felt otherwise. Please feel free to contact Lyme Bay with any specifics which may help for future guests. Parking is always a challenge in Lyme Regis especially properties in such prime locations. • "Excellent property in an ideal location."

Very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The welcome package was more than generous, I have never had one like it. The only down side for my husband and I were the stairs which we found challenging, as my husband is a bit unsteady on his feet and I suffer with arthritis. For a younger, healthy person it wouldn't be a problem. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

  • "The cottage was seaside post card pretty, quaint with lots of character."

Centrally located amongst shops, restaurants, cafes which are all dog friendly and of course the wonderful beach. Although the cottage does not have a garden or outside seating area it was only a matter of yards walk away to find greenery and the beach. Recommend the walk to Beer from Seaton along the coastal path, we only had a 3 day stay but we didn’t want to go home! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and so did our dog!

Thank you for such a lovely review. We would love for you to return in the future. Thank you Property Owner

  • "We selected this property because it was central in the town and as we were not planning on exploring the wider area of Dorset or Devon."

We were not disappointed. The house is very conveniently located for a week's stat in Lyme where we hadn't visited before. It was very comfortable,be specially the beds, and the constant sound of the river burbling its way past the house on its way to the sea was delightful. Occasionally, when the tides were high, the waves reached as fast as the house which just added to the experience. As with any holiday rental , even with the best, there are always some minor niggles. One such in this house is that there isn't a collander for draining pasta and the corkscrew is a bit iffy. We also noticed dust falling from gaps in the ceiling above the cooker hood. An easy fix. Sealant around the bath could do with replacing as well. All in all though we had a very enjoyable stay.

  • "Had a lovely week in Lyme at this cosy, comfortable cottage."

Facilities were excellent, very clean, super comfy beds and welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, biscuits etc, that were greatly appreciated after a six hour drive! The location is fantastic, cafes, beach and pubs all within a five minute walk, didn’t drive anywhere all week, just relaxed and enjoyed it. Definitely recommend and will return.

  • "Spent 5 lovely nights at Riverdance."

The cottage is well equipped with plenty of space for 4 people. The sound of the river is very relaxing. Located very close to the sea front and shops. Recommend Woodmead car park.

  • "Nicely refurbished property close to bars, restaurants and coffee shops."

Plenty of hot water from the shower as well. Could do with some hangars for trousers and more cutlery but these are small details. Internet is slow. Would re-book.

  • "Just got back from a lovely break at the Riverdance Cottage and have to say the owners had though of everything!"

From the kitchen facilities and pint of milk in the fridge, to the guide books and walks left by the sofas. As a family we couldn't fault it. It was decorated beautifully and I even found some of the furnishings in the local shops, of which there are plenty!. The location is ideal for the beach, cafes and restaurants. I was worried about the parking, but we bought a 3-day permit at the car park. I would definitely recommend Riverdance, and hopefully return for a short-break in the future.

  • "Had a lovely short break at Riverdance, we’ve never stopped anywhere that is better equipped than here."

The cottage was decorated beautifully with a home from home feel rather than holiday accommodation. The bedrooms were lovely, one of the comfiest beds I’ve slept in. Location was perfect for everything, would have been easier if there had been outside space for the dogs but it really wasn’t a problem and would definitely recommend and stay there again.

  • "Fantastic location, couldn’t be better."

Lovely cottage and furnished to a high spec. Beds were very comfy. We had a great few days. Recommend people visit the Mill and the brewery as very close by. Lovely cafe next door but one, where we had a lovely breakfast. Thank you, will definitely return for another mini break.
