  • "Our second time at Alice’s Cottage."

Perfect location for the beach for us. Driveway improvements are great. On a busy road but not a problem for us as October half term & didn’t need the windows open. Suggestions for improvements would be a new mattress & decent pillows. Unfortunately the main oven stopped working but luckily had the top oven. Overall great week & would definitely return.

  • "We loved our stay at Alice’s cottage."

We had everything we could need, the house was warm and cosy and everyone had an amazing time. The only thing to mention was that the gardener arrived and refused to move his truck from the parking space which meant we had to park on the other side of the village for the day - apart from this we had a 5 star stay!

Thanks for your feedback. Very happy you enjoyed your stay. Surprised the gardener didn't just park at the bus lay-by like most people do. Thanks Rob & Wendy Property Owner

  • "We had a great week at Alices cottage, everything was a described."

We were within walking distance of Hive beach which has a great cafe right by the beach. The cottage is homely and well equipped with everything we needed, it is on a main road with fast moving traffic so those with children or dogs need to be aware but overall didn't affect us. It was lovely seeing the rabbits in the garden in the mornings. If you do have dogs you will need to keep an eye on them in the garden as the fencing is a little hit and miss. The cottage was clean and furnished beautifully. The only problem we had was the light outside the back door didn't work but other than that all good.

Thank you for your response. The back light now works! Glad you enjoyed your stay. We try to make it feel "homely" Rob & Wendy Property Owner

  • "The cottage is indeed located on a busy road that sees a lot of traffic."

Unfortunately, the windows are single-glazed, so the noise is quite noticeable. During the night, it's less busy, but cars tend to speed, so you should be cautious when stepping out the door. As for the cottage itself, it's small and low, being a traditional cottage. It was rainy during our stay, which made the place feel damp, and we had to turn on the heating to keep it from feeling musty. Our experience was somewhat mixed. The location is great, very close to the beach and walking trails. There are good restaurants within walking distance, especially The Anchor Inn and The Three Horseshoes. However, we found The Hive Beach Restaurant less appealing.

Thanks for your response. Being a listed building we are unable to install double glazing. We are however installing secondary glazing this summer. The south coast has been particularly wet for the last few weeks and the heating should be used. Rob &Wendy Property Owner

  • "Positives - pretty cottage, proximity to Hive beach, nice bathrooms and kitchen."

Negatives - 2 metres from vey busy coastal road - vehicles flashing by at 40/50 mph, safety concern if small children and pets. Constant noise is dreadful if you aren’t used to this. Not relaxing. Lack of investment - various structural and decorative repairs needed. Carpets stained and strong smell of damp/mustiness throughout which permeated all our belongings. We had to wash everything on our return. Furnishings tired and sub average condition. Garden as mentioned by others needs attention but unlikely would sit out there even on a good day due to the road noise. Just general detritus left lying around outside makes it feel like it’s been deserted. Damp may be down to long time leak which became obvious in lounge during our stay. Was reported and fixed quickly but room still damp and unpleasant. No contact from agents or owners to discuss moving us or compensation. In my opinion good as a base only not the kind of property you would spend much time in. Wouldn’t recommend it and won’t be returning.

Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay. It's been particularly wet on the south coast for the last few weeks and as the cottage is 400 years old the heating should be used to maintain the comfort level. We employ cleaners to ensure the property is well presented thus it's disappointing to hear it wasn't up to standard. As for the leak this can happen but I understand it was rectified quickly. • "The cottage is in a lovely location and nicely decorated and very well equipped."

A beautiful beach is just down the road. The road is busy but we didn't really notice it after a short while and the beautiful location more than compensates. As others have commented there are problems with the fencing, many holes in the chicken-wire and dogs can and did escape, even though we were out there with them. I appreciate that this lovely old garden is an ongoing project but we believed that we were booking somewhere with an enclosed garden, which it isn't really. I would advise other dog owners to take a ground spike and a long-line lead unless you have a large, slow dog.

Thank you for your feedback. As you correctly point out, the garden is an "ongoing project " whereby certain works will be undertaken during the winter months. We would also add that we have never suggested the garden is "escape proof". We shall attempt to improve this in the future. Regards Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, very clean."

A pity about the noisy road; this prevented us opening windows at night. No foil or kitchen roll provided. Rear access to cottage & garden was difficult due to a dangerous step. This needs to be improved. Hazardous driving out of parking area as no view of oncoming traffic possible due to overgrown hedgerow. This needs cutting back.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the property is adjacent to the coastal road between Bridport and Weymouth and it can be busy during summer times. However, during the night times we have found that the traffic is very light thus having windows open was not an issue. I'm sorry if you had excessive traffic. As for access to the rear, as stated before, we intend improving that this winter. Hedge cutting and various garden works have recently been completed. Rob & Wendy Property Owner

  • "We loved the cottage and the location was ideal for dog walkers with footpaths off in all directions."

The cottage had everything we needed and it was a great base for exploring Dorset. The village has two lovely pubs, a petrol station and a post office. The beach was nearby with a lovely cafe and toilets. The only slight criticism off the property is that the garden felt neglected and could do with a proper fence and a tidy-up.

Thank you for your feedback. As stated in previous feedback, we acquired the property last December and the garden is an "ongoing project". We don't think it has been touched since the property was built! Fencing is certainly on the list as well as a patio and general tidy up. Regards Rob & Wendy Property Owner

  • "We loved the cottage."

It could have been a tad cleaner - we understand it's an old cottage, but it felt someone hadn't been in to clean for a few weeks so there were bits of dirt around and loads of spiders in the downstairs loo which wouldn't have appeared overnight. It didn't really bother us though. The kitchen could have been slightly better stocked in terms of some basics like maybe a roll of kitchen paper, a cafetiere for those who don't use pods (we bought one from a charity shop and left it for you) etc, but overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your feedback. That is annoying to hear that the cottage was not up to standard in terms of cleanliness. We pay a lot of money to have the cottage prepared for each guest so we shall be forwarding your observations to housekeeping. Sorry there was no cafetiere and thank you for your gift. • "Alices' cottage is beautiful, very well appointed, the appliances are new and easy to use."

The bedrooms clean and comfortable. The garden is a work in progress. It is not totally secure for small and adventurous dogs, an attempt has been made to plug holes but you will need to be on your guard. The parking space will accommodate 2 small cars but it would be tight. Great care needed when arriving and leaving as the road can be very busy.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you found Alice's comfortable. As you rightly say, the garden is work in progress. We acquired the property in Dec. last year and we don't think the garden has really been properly considered since the cottage was built! The parking is tight, but you can accommodate 2 cars, and yes, the road in front is busy, especially in summer. This is a consequence of Alice's excellent location. Rob & Wendy Property Owner

  • "The garden was a nightmare uneven with holes everywhere."

The gate and steps to conservatory very difficult to navigate. The accommodation was lovely

Thanks for your feedback. The garden is an "on going project" over the winter months, We aim to create a patio area and reduce the number of "bunny mowers" we have by cutting back a number of the over grown shrubs. Rob and Wendy Property Owner

  • "The cottage was very well presented and was in an absolutely lovely area and very accessible to the beach which was a 2 minute walk."

The cottage itself had everything we could ask for although there was a utensil missing in the kitchen which we were unable to find, a cheese grater! We, compromised and used the peeler in the drawer so it was not the end of the world. The weather was very wet and windy when we arrived but the cottage was very welcoming and cosy would definitely stay again if in the area. Really good for our dog Chilli too, most of downstairs is flooring rather than carpet so ideal and had chance to clean off muddy paws before she went in the very cosy living room.

Thank you for your feed back. Both Rob & I are pleased you enjoyed Alice's cottage. Sorry that there was no cheese grater, I did think we had one. Wendy and Rob .. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, tastefully and comfortably furnished."

Well-equipped kitchen, beautiful bathroom and the additional shower room downstairs was a bonus. In a perfect dog-friendly location with lots of choice for on and off-lead walking on the beach, on the coastal path or across the fields, all from the front door. The dog and owner menus of the Hive Beach Cafe provided a great post-walk treat! For young families, a children's play park and garage shop with essentials was a five minute walk. The secure garden topped off a welcome break away for us with our retriever. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Thank you for your positive comments. We love Alice's and hope all our guests can enjoy it equally. Rob and Wendy Property Owner
