We were comfortable in the house and loved Burton Bradstock. As the description says, the house is right on a very busy road so you have to be careful with young children and crossing the road. The traffic noise didn’t disturb us when we were in the house. The garden is really lovely and was a great space to sit out in when the sun was shining.

  • "The property is beautiful (it is our 3rd time staying there so we must like it)."

Re accuracy of listing - I do think that it should be emphasised on the listing that you need to be quick on your feet to enter the property due to it being on the road. I know that it is mentioned but I think it should be stressed that it is a fairly busy road, we took my 80 year old mum this time and she is still very active but a little slower and I would not like to think of her crossing on her own to enter the property. The only other slight issue was that the sofas are a little old now and not as comfortable as they were. Other than that the cottage is truly lovely, clean, well presented and has exceptionally comfortable beds. We will come back.

Dear Mrs Elson, we are delighted you enjoyed staying with us again. Thank you for the message, we religiously renew all the sofa covers each year but on the basis of the above I’ll get all the seat cushions replaced and upgraded. We appreciate the coast road gets busy particularly when the weather is good and people are heading to the beach. I hope it didn’t spoil your mother’s enjoyment. Hope to see you again soon. Best wishes, Tim Property Owner

The beds were comfortable and the cottage was lovely and warm, the water pressure is truly amazing, lovely for a shower after a long day at the beach. A great base for exploring the Dorset coast, loved Hive beach and walking round West Bay. So many cliff walks with the dogs they have both come home shattered. • "A pleasant stay marred by a few problems."

Overall the property was clean and comfortable and the garden was lovely. The main bedroom is large and comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped, though there are insufficieint work surfaces on which to prepare food. It is not made clear that the ceilings are quite low and, at 6'5" I banged my head a few times, particularly when coming down the stairs and while the fact that the main gate opens directly onto the road is mentioned, what isn't mentioned is that the road is extremely busy and cars pass very close, many well in excess of the 30mph speed limit. Faults noted: The kitchen window onto the road does not close properly, neither does the door to the double bedroom. The television is quite old and frequently loses its signal. There is a lot of out of date food in one of the cupboards.

We are delighted to hear that you had a pleasant stay at Lilac Cottage. Although the ceilings are not unusually low (I am over 6ft and have no problem), I can appreciate that at 6'5" you will have needed to watch your head at little. Lilac is a 350 year old traditional thatched Dorset cottage, like most period cottages it doesn't have high ceilings that you might find in a more modern house, I hope this didn't spoil your experience too much. When the weather is good, as it was during your stay, the road can be busy as Lilac Cottage is less than a half a mile from what is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. We try to make up for this by ensuring that the cottage and garden are well equipped so guests have an exceptional experience. Thanks for pointing out the other issues which will be dealt with this week. Best Wishes, Tim Property Owner

This has all been rectified- everything was immaculate when we arrived. Cottage looked beautiful and so did garden. Only couple of issues for us - pillows were very uncomfortable and the back gate leading to the road really needs a bolt or lock on it as you accept dogs in the property. Other than that all was fantastic

Wonderful walks and two very good pubs! Very comfortable, spotlessly clean, well equipped and a lovely garden. The road could be an issue when leaving the property but the owners are upfront about that. For me, it wasn’t an issue as long as I kept my dog on a short lead. However, it’s August and it was music festival week, so the village was exceptionally busy. All in all a wonderful week.

Dear Martin, Thank you for the 100% score and also the lovely words you wrote in the visitor’s book, particularly about the garden. Penny is a professional gardener and was part of the team that created the garden that won Gold at Hampton Court this week, so it’s nice to have such nice feedback on Lilac’s garden in the same week. Lilac Cottage is less than a half a mile from what is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country, which is why our village is so popular, so when the weather is good the road can be busy in the summer. We try and make up for this by working hard to ensure that the cottage and its garden is comfortable and very well equipped so that guests have an exceptional experience. We hope to see you again. • "Lilac cottage is beautifully furnished & well equipped."

We understood & appreciated the 5pm check in, to allow for a "deep clean" however the level of cleanliness was certainly not a "deep clean!" There were cobwebs everywhere, stains on the living room rug, thick layers of dust on the TV and dust/crumbs on the kitchen floor. We were also not made aware of the shared access, to the adjoining cottage, making us unable to leave the door open for our dogs to play in the garden for fear that our neighbours may come through & leave the main gate open! We also feel that the cottage description should highlight how busy the main road is, we could not have the front windows open because of the noise & getting out of the gate with 2 dogs, directly onto a very busy main road was horrendous! I notice this was addressed in the "notes" but it really needs to be made much clearer.

The cleanliness of Lilac Cottage is of utmost importance to us. We have an exceptional housekeeper who cares for the cottage, so we are very surprised to hear it didn’t meet expectations. There was no evidence of the any stains on the rug or dust on inspection following the clean on your departure. There is also no shared access to the garden or front gate at Lilac Cottage, the gate connecting Lilac and Bramble is only for our personal use or when large groups are renting both cottages. We will make this clearer for guests. Many thanks. Property Owner

  • "The Cottage met expectations - was really beautiful, furnished to a great standard and only 10 mins walk to beach, fabulous beach cafe and lovely views and walk above the beach."

Village is extremely limited for anything else with only a small post office and a garage offering very limited food items.. The 2 pubs were fully booked when we tried. Location of exit gate from the property onto a bend immediately onto a busy road (no pavement) was of concern for us with a daughter and dog and traffic was noisy; although not a problem if you're an early riser and late going to bed. Whilst generally clean, we found a couple of items of the previous occupant in the lounge and bedroom (including their booking details from the previous week!) There was also a very large coffee spillage on the counter and some dust 'clumps' which left us questioning the standard the Cottage had been cleaned to and so ended up using anticbac cleaner on all high touch items ourselves. Property was advertised at 7 nights at a given price. We took a late booking and due to the changeover date could only possibly be offered 5 nights but were still to be charged for 7 - this was the Sykes sales guy (not property owner) as we later received a small discount on speaking to a different sales person who confirmed this was possible. Dogs are extra (not stated on site but only small charge) We found the first Sykes guy quite abrupt but both ladies we later spoke to were fabulous, polite, friendly and keen to be helpful. Dorset is beautiful. Roads make for an easy drive out to other areas. Lovely coastal drive. Use the park and ride if you go into Lyme Regis as it was impossible to park.
