  • "Whilst the bedroom and bathroom and the living areas are good, the cottage feels cramped, squashed into the minimum space."

There is little natural light on the ground floor so we had to use electric light even in a sunny week and the outside space is totally inadequate. Beds were comfortable but the chairs were not. There was plenty of cutlery but only the minimum of crockery and glassware.

  • "Ground floor toilet unstable , for me personally the upstairs toilet ( throne ) was very awkward as I am awaiting knee surgery."

Oven utensils were covered in grease which needed to be put thru dishwasher. But I am being a bit picky to make this a great stay. Loved this place , will be back next year.

  • "Having recently rented Bobbin Cottage and its sister property, The Old Haberdashery, I cannot recommend both of them highly enough."

The cottages are situated in the lovely village of Langton Matravers, a few minutes’ drive from Swanage, the Dorset seaside resort ranked in the top 10 in a recent survey of British seaside towns by Which magazine. Apart from the excellent beach and attractions in Swanage, the village is only a 10-15 minute drive from Studland and its 4-mile stretch of sandy beach. The village is also great for walkers/hikers as it offers easy access to the South West Coastal Path which runs along the Jurassic coast for 600+ miles. The accommodation itself was clean and comfortable with a kitchen fitted out with all the mod cons one would need for an enjoyable stay. The owners also left us a very useful welcome pack of tea, milk etc and some household items. Parking our cars was easy on the not very busy main road outside the cottages. The village boasts a very friendly pub, the King's Arms and I would also recommend the nearby Square and Compass and Scott Arms pubs, both of which have stunning views, the latter over Corfe Castle. All in all a very enjoyable week. We will be returning!

Thanks for your feedback Richard. Glad you had a great week. Property Owner

  • "Generally this was a nice cottage though we had a few issues."

The kitchen was well stocked with equipment, though there was a bread knife there was no other kitchen knife. There were no instructions for the oven which would have been useful. (We did not need the instructions for the kettle and toaster which were provided!) The stairs were very steep, we feel that an additional handrail on the other wall would have made it safer. The outside space was tiny, with a rusting bistro table and a few dying plants in pots, not at all tempting, even our dog rejected it! Lovely village with a great pub, location very handy for days out.

Thanks for your feedback Beverley. We will look into the issues you have mentioned. The stairs appear a bit steep partly because it is the original staircase which is a bit narrower than modern ones. We will think about your suggestion but it may only narrow the stair access further. As can been seen from the picture, it does already have a very solid handrail to provide support. Property Owner

  • "We had a really excellent holdiay due to the location of this cottage."

We visited RSPB Arne which is absolutely stunning. Swanage is a delightful seaside town. I would highly recommend The Square and Compass for a truly unusual pub experience. The village pub, The Kings Arms is also worth a visit. The locals were very welcoming. In terms of the cottage - it was a little too basic for us. For us the following would have improved our stay. 1. Comfortable seating downstairs. 2. Summer weight quilts on the beds. 3. Provide two plastic chopping boards in the kitchen. 4. Paint the rusty garden furniture and provide cushions. Add some items of interest to the walls and fence panels. 5. Fixing the leaking tap in the downstairs toilet. 6. Provide clearer instructions for the hob and oven.

Hello Paula many thanks for the feedback. You’ll be glad to know the tap has been fixed. I’ll try and make the induction hob instructions in the welcome pack a bit clearer. The hob can seem confusing if you’re not used to it but it is simple to operate when you know how. It’s also very safe. Given that we have guests all year round and the weather is so variable we have invested in quilts that try to provide the best solution in all these circumstances but we’ll give it further thought. Thanks. Property Owner

  • "We chose this cottage as a get away and catch up with friends who lived there."

The were cobwebs in the bathroom it looked like that had a new induction hob but they had not hob fitted but new new pans to use on it.vwhuch meant our Christmas dinner was really hard to cook,! The sponge they had supplied was old and so made it difficult to clean anything. The smart tv has absolutely no channels so was not very smart at all . We have booked with Sykes holidays for some years now and was shocked there was nothing supplied by the owner. No milk or sugar. We had to purchase a knife to carve our turkey too. All in all we will not be using Sykes again. We talked to the shop owner where we bought our knife and this is why we are complaining.

Dear Rosemary thank you feeding back. We want our guests to have a warm and welcoming experience and apologise that some things were not satisfactory. Just to reassure you, we have checked that the induction hob works fine, the pans were new this year, there are sharp knives available, and our welcome pack includes tea, milk and biscuits as well as cloths, washing up liquid, salt/pepper and sugar. The smart TV normally has all channels - I’m very sorry that something happened on this occasion. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage - well equipped - in a very convenient location."

When booking I didn't appreciate how difficult it would be for my husband who is slightly disabled - the very steep stairs were very challenging but the toilet on a plinth in the bathroom was particularly daunting!

  • "A lovely well equipped, comfortable and clean (apart from the cobwebs on the veluxes) cottage."

But it is listed as having a garden. Not true. Also part of text says “step outside to the private courtyard to raise a toast to your romantic retreat as the stars begin to fill the sky over Dorset”. What a laugh! The sunless courtyard consisted of a scruffy thin strip with a six foot fence for its boundary. There were 2 flowerpots on a stand, one containing a plastic plant, the other full of stagnant water and also some rusty chairs and table. The funniest item was a deckchair so you could either sit looking at the fence or the back of the property with its myriad of drainpipes. HARDLY ROMANTIC!! Pity because there were some lovely views just over the fence and this is a perfect spot to stay with many Dorset gems in easy reach.

  • "The property was difficult to find as I thought it was nearer to the sea than it was."

There's not alot in aera if your disabled slightly. The owner seemed annoyed I kept phoning for directions. I'm not sure about sleeping 3 The double bed was made up for a couple but it's was two single women. So I took mattress of bed as it was two single a d sleept like that for two nights. I couldn't get the cooker hob working. Apart from that .

Thank you for providing feedback for Bobbin Cottage. Your booking for the cottage was made on the day of arrival and the owners very kindly rearranged scheduled maintenance work to make the property ready for you. All our guests are sent directions of how to get to the cottage and the owner did his upmost to help you get to the cottage on the several occasions that you called him. If there was a specific requirement for the bed configuration, you should have let us know as we would have been more than happy to arrange it.There are detailed explanations for all the appliances in the booklet in the property,  including the hob. Again, we could have given you some guidance and we do encourage all our guests to contact us at Sykes with any difficulties. It is also worth mentioning that Bobbin Cottage is 5 minutes drive to Swanage beach and a 15 minute walk to the beautiful Jurassic Coast. Thanks Property Owner

Clean & contemporary. Only problem was the pillows, flabby & thin & one had awful blood stains, my husband took a photo. Thankfully we took our own pillows.

There was only two thin bath towels and one hand towel for three people! No towel in down stairs loo. No pillow protectors which is basic hygiene . The fridge had milk tea bags and a cheap packet of biscuits. Bathroom heated towel rail sounded like a motorbike when left to heat up. The back patio was a thin strip of concrete surrounded by a high fence.Very disappointed we have stayed in many Sykes cottages this was a real let down.

However it would have been highly appreciated if there was tea, coffee, sugar and milk on arrival as we had traveled for several hours and we're desperate for a drink - but there were only a couple of teas bags and a pint of milk. Furthermore we were one towel short but this was quickly rectified on contacting the letting agency I think a few complimentary items would go along way...

The location, at the edge of a picturesque village, with commanding views and easy access to Dorset's coastal paths, is a tremendous selling point. Owner, Guy, was friendly and helpful, tireless in (remotely) helping us fathom the workings of an unfamiliar induction hob. We have strongly recommended Bobbin Cottage to friends and family.

The cottage is lovely. Perfect for a couple. Several walks from the door. Easily accessible for Swanage, Studland, Poole and Bournemouth. They provided milk, tea, biscuits for arrival. Good information in the property. We took a stair gate to prevent dog getting upstairs. Only negative is the little courtyard doesn't get any sun, otherwise a perfect place.

Everything you needed was there whether it be pots or pans, throws for the sofa etc. The super king size was so comfortable and I had made the mistake of not realising that you needed to ask for it to be changed from 2 twins to the king size but when we contacted Sykes and they contacted the owner they were only happy to do this. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will reccomend to friends. The cottage is also so close to both Corfe and Swanage, two places well worth a visit. Corfe for its castle, tearooms and pubs. Swanage for its lovely clean beach and safe swimming.

About the location

SWANAGE

Wareham 9.7 miles; Poole 20 miles.

The small, family-friendly seaside resort of Swanage is situated at the eastern end of Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast, on the celebrated Isle of Purbeck and is probably best known for its wonderful, gently shelving golden sands. The little town offers visitors plenty of shops, good pubs and restaurants, some of which specialise in locally caught seafood, and is also well known for its annual jazz festival, which takes place each July. The attractive, Victorian wooden pier offers a great place for a stroll or try fishing, and often used a departure point for divers, it’s a wonderful place to watch the world pass by. The historic Swanage Railway has its terminus in the town and regular nostalgic steam engine trips take tourists for a picturesque 6-mile journey, chugging through lovely countryside to stop just beyond the romantic ruin of Corfe Castle. Nearby Durlston Country Park offers a lovely day out with spectacular coastal walks, dolphin spotting and wildlife watching, together with comfortable viewing points and a well-stocked cafe for a treat after all the fresh air. Take the short drive to Studland, which has one of the finest beaches in the country, surrounded by heathland, together with the regular chain ferry, which crosses the mouth of Poole Harbour to Sandbanks. This truly is a delightful holiday destination at any time of the year.
