    Shepherd's Retreat is set within a beautiful cottage garden, within a pretty village. The nearby small market town of Somerton is full of attractive stone buildings and has all the facilities you would need. There are lots of places to eat out. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

    Phil went out of his way to check access along a local footpath was still possible after the recent flooding in the area.There was fresh bread, eggs, butter, milk and all manner of goodies waiting for us on arrival. Apartment was clean, comfortable and warm and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Would love to go back after a dry spell.

    After gaining access, via the high tech keypad, what we found was quite amazing, a wonderfully set out accommodation and an incredible amount of thought has gone into this property.   • "A-MAZ-ING!! FAB-U-LOUS"

    !! A “home from home.” The hosts were very welcoming and the accommodation was beyond my expectations. The little extra touches were a lovely surprise. With local footpaths you can start your day with a walk with your dog (if you have one) before setting out for the day. An ideal location to explore Somerset. The peace and tranquility were ideal if you wanted to just chill in the garden. Thoroughly recommend and will be going back again

    Alles is aanwezig. We voelden ons direct welkom door de manier waarop Phil en Maureen ons ontvingen. In het huisje lag een welkomstbrief. Wij hoefden niet direct naar de supermarkt, er was eten in het huisje aanwezig zoals brood, cornflakes broodbeleg en drinken. Super een echte aanrader. Binnen een straal van 60 km. veel mooie bezienswaardigheden te bezoeken.

  • "Lovely holiday apartment in quiet, rural hamlet."

    We were welcomed with a nice basket of fresh bread, butter, cereal, eggs, and a pint of milk (and a few dog treats for our dog!) with little extras like tea and coffee also in the cupboards. Easy access to country walks on foot, plus lots of woods, country homes, and historical sites not far away by car. The apartment itself had very modern and clean furnishings and fittings (including a dishwasher). For anyone looking for a workcation, the wifi was strong enough for video calls, Netflix etc.

  • "We had a lovely suprise when we arrived after a long journey , freshly homemade bread , eggs ,tea , coffee milk."

    The owner was in the garden and as we arrived he greated us and explained about the electronic gate and how to use the keypad to enter the property. The property itself was lovely and laid out really well , very comfortable and lots of books and guides to help you visit the local area. Everything you need was supplied from washing up liquid , dishwasher tablets and washing tablets for the washing machine. I would like to thank Maureen and Phil for making our stay at Shepherds Retreat a safe and relaxing stay and I look forward to returning in the future.

  • "Second visit, so we knew what to expect."

    ............which was all very good. One concern only ; from time to time a very unpleasant smell was noticeable in the bathroom,bedroom ,and corridor that joins them. This was of internal origin ( ie definately not from outside the building). The smell was similar to that given off by blocked drains. We did NOT make the owners aware of this ; it did not seem appropriate to write it in the visitors book! Perhaps you ought to make them aware of this though. We intend to return for a third visit if smell can bev rectified.

    When we were made aware of this problem we instigated a deep clean and a thorough investigation on what might have caused the concern raised. We did discover a small hole in the extraction system ducting which has now been repaired. We have had no further comments regarding any unpleasant smell and have been regularly monitoring the situation Property Owner

    The cottage had everything we needed and the owner's (Phil and Maureen) were very welcoming and friendly. The welcoming pack was highly appreciated including the homemade bread and eggs from the owner's chickens.The garden is beautiful and our dog enjoyed playing with the owners dog's. The use of the garage underneath the cottage was great for my husband to store his bike during our stay. We would highly recommend this cottage to others. The only downside was that the Wi-Fi could be a bit slow at times but we find that often happens on our cottage stays in rural areas.

    This holiday rental is in the grounds of their beautiful home and exactly as it appears in the photos but I felt completely free to come and go as I pleased. They provided everything you could want and lots of local information, both in person and via leaflets and magazines. This is a beautiful part of the world with lots of do. One of my favourite things was to go on nice long walks in the late afternoon, such a good way to explore.

The flat had nothing complicated about it so this was no problem. Nice touch also with the home-made bread, milk, eggs and sundries - much appreciated when you arrive after shops close.
