  • "On the whole the cottage is lovely, just a few points spoil it."

There was a lot of cobwebs and dust, some switches that were not labelled as to what they were for, did not know which Wednesday the bin was to be emptied and as it was full very heavy to wheel down the steep drive. No recycling facilities and the bin said no food waste.

Thank you for your feedback. Very glad you enjoyed the cottage. As the property is on a commercial rubbish collection contract, all refuse and recycling goes in the same bin and is sorted at the facility. We will ensure the instructions in the welcome folder are made clearer. The housekeeping team will be attending on the next changeover to ensure the property is up to standards. Thank you once again for taking the time to leave your comments. The Lyme Bay Team. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay."

A couple of small things like a door handle coming off and a blind covering falling down but this didn't bother us. The one thing that did disappoint us was the lack of recycling facilities and we bought our recycling home as our local council gives us bins and we are able to put the majority of our household rubbish out for recycling. We did very much enjoy our stay.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. Lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay. The property is on a commercial contract for rubbish so recycling all goes in together and is sorted at the facility. Hope to see you again soon. The Lyme Bay Team. Property Owner

Lovely welcome pack and information booklet for sightseeing. Great for friends/ or family to stay in. Great location. Royal Oak pub fantastic food. Property was clean but more attention to detail needed under beds and furniture. Deep clean needed for stuff like cobwebs etc.

Thank you for your comments. Good to see you got to enjoy the local area and all it has to offer. The Housekeeping Team have been made aware and have it on their list to attend to on the next available date. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Poor experience for 4 elderly occupants."

No mention in the marketing of the scale of the inclines to reach the accommodation. You cannot walk anywhere. The approach road and the connecting driveway too steep. Car Parking difficult and dangerous. The wheelie bin had not been emptied. No re-cycling bin. No food waste bin. No wardrobes in the cottage only chest of drawers. Patio unkempt and overgrown with brambles. No garden seat cushions. No place to dry bath towels. Heating system for bathroom radiators did not work.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you had a few issues during your stay. The cottage is located on a hill which is the main access to Stone barrow (National Trust) which is great for walkers but it is steep in places so not ideal for those with limited mobility. We would have been more than happy to attend and resolve the bin, garden and radiator issues if we had been contacted. Within the pictures, we feel that the property is advertised clearly without a wardrobe but your comments about the garden seat cushions will be passed to the owner. The Lyme Bay Team. • "A very well equipped cottage providing everything we needed."

A generous and very good quality welcome pack on arrival.Excellent well enclosed and secure garden area for four legged friend. We were fortunate to enjoy good weather and felt outdoor cushions and a parasol would have been welcome. There seemed to be no form of recycling which we found strange and ended up bringing it home with us. Overall though a great place to stay and would thoroughly recommend. Beautifully equipped. My only criticism is that the garden needed some attention. The welcome pack was however an unexpected delight. Many thanks. Lastly, did you find a pair of glasses? Can't find mine.

  • "Generally a very nice little cottage, clean and well equipped."

However, one major niggle: the en-suite bathroom (as advertised on the web inc. photograph) is actually an en-suite shower room. This is rather naughty and a bit lazy, not having updated the details. The loose vent in the en-suite also rattles all night in the wind.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the cottage. We apologise that the website did not reflect the updated work that the property has had done. This has now been rectified and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Hoping to welcome you back to Dorset soon. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely location and great layout."

We just felt let down that it hadn’t really been cleaned to high standard, very dusty under sofas which set my allergies off for the week. And the bedroom and bathroom on ground floor smelt musty. Really lovely place just let down by these bits.

Thank you for your feedback, we are happy to hear that you enjoyed the location and property. We are sorry to hear though that you felt the property was not clean. We would have been more than happy to attend to rectify any of these issues. We have ensured that this is on the Housekeeping Team's radar now. • "Location great, Cottage secluded."

Facilities great. However there was a persistent smell in the 2nd bedroom where there are 2 single beds. It was a strong sweet sickly odour which on opening the windows all day long, did not remove. Consequently could not sleep or use said room.

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your holiday at the cottage. Our Housekeeping Team visited the property but could not locate any odour within the property. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Not enough info in listing."

It would have been helpful to know that there was an iron and board, freezer, hairdryer. Incomplete renovation in en suite made it look scruffy. Outside furniture would have benefited from a parasol (there was a base!) Otherwise property was v good

Thank you for your comments. We have updated our website features to include the iron and hairdryer; it did already state there was a fridge/freezer. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Our first stay in damson tree."

Very comfortable and warm. Really needs a storage cupboard for food delivery and the doors need adjustment so they close. The rattling vent in the ensuite woke the dog one night... it might have been the resident squirrel playing though. We would love to come back. The neighbours are nice too.

  • "We had a lovely few days at Damson Tree Cottage."

It is well located to explore the Dorset coast and we particularly enjoyed the NT walks just up the road. The cottage is refurbished to a high standard and very comfortable. If we had two very minor suggestions it would be some bigger mugs the ones provided don't even hold the amount of coffee the machine makes if you want to add milk and please put some salt in the salt pot. Otherwise everything was there for a relaxing break. It was warm and peaceful and very relaxing.

The parking was a bit problematic, although I hardly used my car whilst I was there, so I did take advantage of being able to park on the drive of Stonebarrow House. It was lovely to be able to walk to the beach and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

  • "We had a really lovely stay and the welcome pack was a nice touch."

The instructions for the wood burner enabled us to learn a new skill. Having an enclosed garden with front and rear access to the drive was very useful when going to and from the car. The location of the cottage was ideal with a short drive to Charmouth, Lyme Regis and Bridport. All in all we had an enjoyable few days just few things for improvement in our opinion to make it better. The ensuite door was very stiff and the handle extremely loose meaning that we could not close the door without feeling as though the handle would come off in our hand leaving us trapped in the bathroom. The vent on the outside of this bathroom was extremely noisy, flapping in the wind which then echoed in the bedroom as the door could not be closed. The double bed was also really noisy and not very comfortable.

Thank you for your feedback, we’re glad you enjoyed your stay. The door handle to the en-suite has now been fixed and we are now planning to change the double bed over the winter. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely cottage."

If we had a problem it was due to getting in and out of the parking space because of the slope, the turning angles and the rough stone ground. If this area could be of tarmac like the rest of the road in front of the cottage it would help considerably. Walking to the beach and the shops could also be a challenge because of the gradient on the lane, especially coming back, but we are being picky here.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We’re delighted that you thought the cottage was lovely and really appreciate the excellent rating you have given us. Damson Tree Cottage is in an elevated position providing sea views out to the Cobb at Lyme Regis. It’s a downhill walk to the village and the beach (always an advantage!) which means the walk back is uphill, albeit a very pleasant 10-15 minute stroll up a country lane, with often lots of beautiful wildlife to see (rabbits, pheasants and more!). We know that access to the two large parking spaces is narrow and have asked Lyme Bay Holidays to include a picture of it on the website to provide clarity to our guests. Property Owner

  • "Damson Tree Cottage was very enjoyable it had everything we could need to make our stay agreeable."

The only problem was the parking it’s a cul de sac and an extremely narrow uphill gradient to the parking space at the side of the cottage just enough width for a small car. We have a large SUV and only just managed to park without scratching our car . There are iron reinforcements bars to protect the cottage opposite as building works had been going on for the last few years and we had to take great care to avoid bumping into them. This is not mentioned in the details and because my husband is a very good driver we were ok but anyone elderly or young drivers in a large car might struggle.

We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your high rating. Damson Tree Cottage is located on the beautiful Stonebarrow Lane which is steep but has the benefit of affording some truly spectacular views at the top. As you might expect, the cottage driveway is also on an incline and it is narrow but it has always been wide enough for our own SUV. We have asked Lyme Bay Holidays to add a photograph of the drive and parking spaces to the cottage details on the website for clarity. We are lucky though to have 2 large parking spaces as well as a beautiful garden. We would like all future guests to be clear that the building works referred to relate to a neighbouring plot, where the house build is complete. No building works traffic has passed through our drive since we have owned the property (January 22) and there is no longer any through traffic at all. Property Owner

  • "Really nice holiday cottage in a great location, to a lovely village & great beach."

Cottage is clean, comfy & well kitted out and the information pack is probably the best we've seen. Not complaints, just suggestions - other cottages we've stayed in have provided a few teabags & a little bit of milk which is always nice after a long car journey. Also a little breakfast table near the back doors might be nice as this is where it's sunny in the morning. Otherwise perfect.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We will now be offering all of our guests a welcome pack and will look at the space for a breakfast table next time we are there. Best wishes, Anna and Nathan Property Owner
