  • "Very nice cottage, beautiful garden, clean."

Bit chill in the evenings and the plumbing is medieval. Put in a nice shower, away with this old-fashioned baths. Nice collections of books and good information about where to go, to eat etc. Very helpful caretaker as well.

Thank you for your feedback, we always appreciate guest's views. Sadly, the summer was not as we had hoped this year and heating was required. Baths and showers are always a guest preference and we have passed this on to the property manager along with your kind comments about the caretaker. Best Wishes Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "It was not the cleanest place we’ve stayed in."

It smelt damp and foisty. It looked ok initially but it became apparent that proper cleaning wasn’t great, there were areas that hadn’t been touched for months. There were cobwebs between legs of chair in living room, all around the fire place, dense ones in corners. There also seemed to be an infestation of woodlice and I don’t mean just one or two, they were crawling up the curtains each morning, across living room floor and in cupboard under sink. Although the bathroom in general was clean the bath taps were caked with limescale and gunge. The windows were filthy.Apart from that it is in a very pretty area but very remote, no facilities at all and the advertised village pub has been closed for some time.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're sorry to hear that the cleanliness at the cottage was not up to our usual high standards. Woodlice are unfortunately a continual problem in the countryside during damp and rainy conditions. We have passed all your comments to the owner for review and hope this didn't impact your stay. • "Perfect base for exploring Wiltshire."

The house was well equipped and comfortable - if a little dated. Plenty of space and a good sized private garden. The underfloor heating was not controllable by the guests - and we found it a bit cold. But there is a coal-effect gas fire in the sitting room, which we did eventually get to work! Loads to visit and explore nearby, including Stonehenge. Great local history books in the house too.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you had a comfortable stay. The owner has advised, for the heating, there is a thermostat in each room, which can be adjusted. There is an information folder in the kitchen, providing instructions on how to use the gas fire, and all other appliances. We are glad that you made the most of exploring the local area. • "This cottage is spacious and well furnished."

It is located on a very quiet lane close to the village centre and provides peace and quiet without isolated. For those who enjoy the natural world unadultered by traffic noise and artificial lighting, this is an ideal place to stay.

Thank you for providing us with such lovely feedback on your stay at Winterbourne Cottage. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time away and took full advantage of the beautiful village of Chilmark. We look forward to welcoming you again one day in the future! • "It is a lovely cottage in a quiet village, with comfy bed."

The house was musty & cold when we arrived at 4pm, and no info on how to get heating on. Next morning we found the heating controls in a cupboard in utility room Also we couldn’t open windows or patio doors on ground floor. Apart from that very comfortable.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We’ve received a very detailed response from the owner who carried out repairs in the property over the winter and although they were assured no musty smell remained, it had been recently repainted. The patio doors can sometimes swell in winter wet weather, so there is outside access via the back door. We're so pleased that overall you had a comfortable stay in this beautiful area. • "Winterbourne Cottage Wiltshire This is a very pretty cosy cottage (once it had warmed up!"

Was cold to begin). Quite spacious with large lounge, kitchen, bathroom and pretty garden. Given how nice the cottage is we felt it could have been rather better-appointed, and it does need a real deep clean although we appreciate it has been very booked-up. The village is charming with lots of lovely walks, although pitch-black at night as no lighting. Lots of lovely pubs in surrounding areas. Enjoyed going to Shaftesbury (Hovis advert), Longleat (with lions and tigers!), Salisbury, Stour Head with beautiful gardens and lake, Wardour Castle. Everyone very friendly: good Sunday lunch in welcoming Black Dog 10 minute walk, super-welcoming staff, particularly James the manager who opened up early especially for us! Great meal in Beckford Arms Fonthill Gifford. Warm welcome and massive portions at The Wyndham Ditton.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope that the issues you encountered did not leave a lasting impact. Please know that the property has recieved a deep clean since the busy period. We hope to welcome you back any time in the future. Property Owner

  • "Winterbourne cottage is a very pleasant two bedroom cottage in the quiet, pretty village of Chalmark."

It is 10 minutes walk from the Black Dog pub which serves good food. The cottage is well furnished in a traditional style and is well equipped. The cottage does seem to be quite cold. When we arrived the temperature outside was 28 but the temperature inside was 15. There is underfloor electric central heating which is quite slow to warm up.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Winterbourne Cottage. We always value feedback from our guest and i will forward your comments onto the owner regarding the heating. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful Cottage in a Beautiful."

quiet village. Only minor negative comment would be that a few more basics would be appreciated like washing up liquid, kitchen roll, cooking oil, as we wouldn't normally take those on holiday with us. Still 10/10 tho & we'd stay here again on our next break in Wiltshire.

  • "We booked via "Hideaways" and the service was trouble-free."

The property was surprisingly spacious for a two bedroomed cottage; it was cosy and well-equipped. The garden was pretty and well kept. The only surprise was that gas and electricity were not included in the price, but were calculated at the end of our stay.\ Chilmark is a very quiet village - no street lighting - but it does have a lovely pub with good food. There are lots of nice walks nearby and cycling is probably an attractive proposition. It's 12 miles to Salisbury which is definitely worth one or two visits. The nearest small town for shopping is Tisbury, 3 miles away via a very minor road. Tisbury also has a rail station and is on the line from Waterloo.

    Guest's Review On TripAdvisor

  • "Booking was easy and was very professionally handled, although I was a bit puzzled why it was not possible, even in off-season, to book from Sunday to Sunday - we had to leave on Saturday although no new guests were arriving that day."

The amenities of the cottage were exactly as described and pictured on the website - best I've ever had in a self-catered cottage. However, the instructions on how to get the central heating running (found in a folder in the cottage) could have been clearer. The location in the small village of Chilmark is lovely, and it's easy to get to the nearby cities and sightseeing spots such as Salisbury and Stonehenge by car. The village pub is highly recommended as well!
