  • "We had a lovely stay at Gull Cottage."

We’ve stayed in many cottages in Lyme as we love the area and this was the best one. There were a couple of issues when we first arrived but they were quickly dealt with and it didn’t affect our stay. One point it might be useful to add to the listing is the low ceilings and lamp shades in some rooms. My son is 6’5” and found the dining area a bit of a problem as well as the lamp in the hallway. This was a minor problem and wouldn’t stop me booking the cottage again.

  • "We were a group of 8 'Grannies and Grandpas' spending our annual week together - this time Lyme Regis."

The house was excellent; wonderful location, pleasingly decorated, very well equipped, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The twin bedroom is small for two adults, but the other bedrooms are lovely and we enjoyed all sitting in the upstairs sitting room or round the spacious kitchen table. It is good fun sitting up on the sun loungers on the sea wall watching the world go by. Our only problem was with the downstairs heating - we could not get help till the office opened and then the problem was not really resolved. to our understanding. We used Justpark for our 2 extra cars, but didn't use them all week; there is plenty to do and see in and around Lyme itself. A really enjoyable holiday which we ended off with a big breakfast in Swim before setting off for home.

  • "Great accommodation right by the sea in Lyme Regis."

Comfortable & lovely space to relax. Would definitely book again. Two negatives - cold showers/water & lack of heating. Finally found out on our last night that hot water was turned off at boiler & Lounge Dimplex fire was turned off behind drop down cover which was not obvious (as instructions manual said remote would operate by pressing top right button) Thankfully after internet searches for fault finding had a warmer 2nd night !! Please can hot water & dimplex heater be turned on ready to use for incoming guests. Otherwise a fabulous house to stay in

  • "The property is in an ideal position for the family of which we made up 5 adults, one disabled and 2 grandchidren under 5yrs."

We enjoyed being so close to all facilities it is such a great position for everyone and many happy hours spent people watching from the balcony. The cottage is well equiped and was lovely and clean on arrival. The outside umbrella broke and was immediately replaced which was great. We reported a constant noise which we thought might be the extractor fan in the bathroom that would not switch off this did not get sorted before we left. On the morning of leaving half the electrics went out leaving us with no hot water or cooker to heat babies bottles and all other appliances were out including Wifi, TV etc. We tried to report this as an emergency as it was before 9.00am both for ourselves and the next people arriving. The emergency telephone link with Lyme Bay Holidays/Sykes sends you in a recorded loop not to a person to manage the emergency. The recorded message advised there would be a call back at 9.00am. I do not consider that an emergency response!! Thankfully the cafes helped us with hot water for the baby.

We're sorry to hear that you had an issues with the electrics and didn't receive a call back from the Out of Hours Service. We have passed this information on for a review of the system. We hope you enjoyed your stay. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "We have been coming to Lyme for years and believe that Gull cottage and the Captains house have the best position of all holiday rentals in the town."

This time we were here for our granddaughters wedding which was wonderful. We were however disappointed at your policy of increasing your prices over the half term bank holiday as we had to rent 7 properties which made it an extremely expensive affair!

  • "We had a great time."

The only negative is car parking. The cottage only has one free space and that's a little way away. A cottage sleeping 8 people needs 2 or 3 spaces especially in a place like Lyme Regis where public parking is difficult and expensive.

I completely understand so rent a space in the nearest carpark to the cottage, hopefully this allows others cars to be parked in cheaper carparks further away. It is not possible to rent a long term space in the other carparks down on the Cobb which limit the options. It would also not be viable to rent more spaces in the current carpark if even possible due to the high cost. Property Owner

  • "Gull Cottage, is in an idyllic position for those who enjoy the fun of the seaside."

We certainly enjoyed our stay in this well equipped property. We did encounter a number of issues. The power tripping throughout the first evening and the following morning, the washing machine had been left with water in it and consequently we were unable to use it and the heating not being on. These issues were largely remedied and in this regard I would like to thank the support team for helping to ensure that this didn’t unduly affect our holiday. The staff I spoke with were polite, friendly, apologetic and helpful. Mark from the maintenance team, did all he could to try to resolve the issues. Although these issues were not completely resolved at least they did not seriously blight our experience. I would however say that when paying nearly £3,400 to rent a property for a week, I would expect everything to be functioning correctly. I appreciate that with a quick change over this can be difficult but feel a solution to this would be of value. A wonderful holiday, delightful cottage (with a few little issues), very helpful staff. Thank you for your comments, we hope to have finally resolved the electrical issues and will mention the washing machine to the cleaners. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful week in the cottage."

Everything was so clean on moving in and couldn’t have asked for more on arrival. Information available via the books was excellent. The parking was great for one family, shame the others had to walk to the car park up the hill early every morning. Never mind, not a hardship. 16 steps to the Royal Standard pub which served an excellent menu of food and service was great. Slight problem when the lights tripped in the hall but easy to resolve. We would recommend this cottage to our friends and would love to come back again. Amazing views from the lounge! Love it!

Thank you for your kind comments we hope to have finally resolved the electricity problem. Property Owner

Great sea views from the lounge. Plenty of room for a family of 5. Kids were impressed they all had a room each with their own en-suite or bathroom to use. Will definitely stay here again next time we come.

As you say the se views are exceptional as the property is literally on the beachfront. We are pleased to offer a private parking space for the property as these are extremely hard to come by in Lyme. We recommend that guests use the long-stay car park at Holmbush where tickets can be purchased for the length of your stay using the JustPark app or by using cash. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "The property was beautiful and suited our needs perfectly - one elderly relative enjoyed being on the ground floor whilst the others in our family were upstairs."

Having a sofa in the dining area as well as having the separate lounge also made it good for family members to have their own space. The terrace overlooking the beach was also really lovely to have, despite being attacked by the mother of a baby seagull who had decided to make the terrace his home! The only disappointment we have is the ridiculous price hike you are making for next year. During our stay in early July 2022, we decided that as the property worked so well for our family and elderly relative, that we’d book again for the same week in 2023, only to be horrified by the increase in price by approx £1000 for the exact same week! It’s not even the school holidays! This price increase makes it impossible for us to afford and we don’t understand why you’re making such a huge increase. We’re incredibly disappointed and sad that we’ll never stay at Gull Cottage again.

Thank you for your feedback, pleased to hear you enjoyed your time in the cottage. Property Owner

  • "The property would have been ideal, in an ideal location and ideal weather to accommodate our disabled son with limited mobility and 3 yr old grandson had it not been for the annual dredging that began on the Monday at the start of our holiday."

We could not believe the sight of the beautiful sandy beach being turned into a building site with diggers, trucks, cranes right outside our balcony. It was unbelievable that we were not informed even that this was a possibility and a huge mountain of sand completely blocking the view. Mo of Lyme Bay holidays was equally shocked and they sent someone to take pictures of the beach. He was also incredibly kind but could not do anything about it but inform the owner. I felt so tired and distressed by these events which had a profound impact on us as my sons (and ourselves as we cannot leave him) best way of enjoying the view and the sea was completely gone. We were living with a backdrop of noise and in front of us a mountain of sand which at night was topped with cranes and diggers. After waiting all year for a break finding the house perfect to begin with (as we had the weekend). I cannot tell you the extent of the distress that was caused. We were invited to leave the property on the Tues to recover some of our money so my other son and family left then. Mo contacted to say the deal was actually for leaving Mon night we did not get the message until Tues My disabled son and ourselves could not easily move out until the following day. I found myself in a dispute I had no energy to have and could not haggle anymore. I was too tired and could not pack us all up again and be out until end of Tues. I felt worn out we accepted £500 which goes nowhere to compensate the distress. We did appreciate the owner coming with a bottle of Prosecco and chocolates and the offer of use of the other adjoining terrace. I think the whole process of the Council not informing about the dredging, dredging occurring in the middle of June a significant holiday period is disgraceful (there was even a piece in The Times!). Knowing this is an annual event I think those involved in promoting these properties have a duty of care and management to assure that the property fits the trade description and is accurate and a warning is given to those who may wish to stay that they may find themselves booking a dredging period!! In talking to the surveyor of the site it seems it can be anytime from end of March to end of June depending on working with West Bay that makes booking a holiday in Oct (year before) 'pot luck' as notification for this year only went out for this dredging in May!! It was more distressing for us as we could not easily move away from the property because of my son's needs. It would have been ideal instead it became a trap we lived with for a week.
