  • "Overall it is a very nice cottage in a good location."

Having an enclosed garden was important to us as we have a dog so that was a bonus. The sitting room is a good size as is the main bedroom & the bed was very comfortable, however, the kitchen area is tiny, as is the bathroom. The second bedroom might be okay for kids but certainly not adults and the only wardrobe space is in the second bedroom, half of which is taken up with vacuum cleaner, brooms etc. We had one car and whilst two might fit on the drive, it would be tight & turning in or out would become a major issue - there is no alternative parking anywhere nearby! The state of cleanliness, unfortunately, was poor with dust and mould in many places. The kitchen surfaces had clearly not been attended to very thoroughly and we felt the need to wash utensils and plates prior to use. As regards location, it is a short walk along a pleasant path to Dorchester and a very short walk to the Sun Inn, which is excellent. It is right on a busy road as other reviewers have noted so road noise might be an issue for some. We didn't sit outside due to the weather and time of year (late October). Finally, I did try to contact the owner at the end of our stay but got no response, luckily it was a trivial matter. Others have commented on the lack of response so I would echo that.

  • "The cottage was lovely."

Very clean and comfortable. The owners had left us cakes and tea for when we arrived. The garden was completely in closed which was great for our dogs. The only issue we had was it was right next to a very busy road and was very noisy

  • "The property looks cute from the outside."

When entering it smelt musty and felt damp . Not very welcoming it was very drab and outdated. The furniture was ok but too low for my disabled mother. So I got her a garden chair to sit on . The cooker wasn’t very clean. So we just had sandwiches. I did email the company to ask to be moved on Sunday but nobody got back to me . So disappointed with this property! We both was looking forward to our holiday because I have just finished cancer treatment. So we made the decision to go home, because mum has asthma and it was a damp cottage . And having mum sit on a garden chair was not acceptable mum was really upset

The Cottage started to build up a strong smell of fermented poo untold flushing didn’t sort it had to open windows to vent . Called House Keeper no reply Owner no reply handy man turned up didn’t know nothing came back to cut grass . Had to take drastic measures poured 6 kettles of boiling water down toilet pan maybe do something can only wait .went Lidls bought 2 bottles of bleach and 2 no toilet hangers of blue flush after 50 flushes still smell through out cottage .thought about it how can I get this better so holiday not spoilt and keep family happy . Found where smell was coming from very dry cesspit methane coming back up waste pipe. Now lifted access panel to gully to find what I can only say fermented poo and paper going wrong way. Drastic measures now needed found a twisted up hose but got this up and running hosed the gully till running the right way I thought but got rid off that bit of waste I thought the following morning wake to real bad smells through cottage . Repeated with hose and heavy flushed toilet again and again poured down remaining of bleach must have done something by now . The only way I can get the message to you people is the photos I’ve taken you could not make this up if there’s anyway I can get them up on here I will

  • "The cottage was a little dated and on a busy main road which was noisy when trying to sit in the garden of an evening."

That being said it didn’t stop us having a fantastic holiday knowing the garden was enclosed so the dog and the our granddaughter could be out safely. The location was perfect for visiting the coastline and walking into Dorchester itself. Having a pub in 5 minutes walking distance was bonus and the food was great too.

  • "Loverly cottage, situated on the out skirts of Dorchester, it is on a busy B road, which while we were there they decided to close it to resurface over three nights, so was very noisy, nice pub 4 minutes walk away, there is a Lidl supermarket 6 minutes walk away, the cottage had everything needed, the only down sides were the shower is very weak, best to use it as a handheld, the remote for TV is faulty takes ages to turn on or off, plenty of places to visit from the cottage!"

The property was fine our concern was the road which the property owner cannot do anything about We should have been told that this road was a very busy road Constant traffic noise awful when sitting in garden The property is a lovely little lodge everything you need Just the road

Apologies for the traffic noise, and delays / build up on the Old Sherborne Rd which runs along side the property. The road (not even a B road) is shown on the Dream Cottages web site. However it is usually not that busy but during the time of your stay the council was working on the main A35 road and diverted the traffic down the old Sherborne Rd. This work has since been completed. Property Owner

) is the over the bath shower, this really needs to be either replaced or sorted out as it is very poor That very small moan is the only thing that was not particularly good as everything else was great I would highly recommend this cottage and we WILL be looking to see when we can come back

Thank you for feedback. The Bath shower has now been replaced. Property Owner

  • "The drainage in the bathroom was less than inadequate."

I was really disappointed that the owners did not forewarn us. I don’t expect to be cleaning sludge / sewage and other unsightly grime from the bath & sink whilst trying to enjoy a break away with family. We still made the most of our break thanks to the lovely surrounding and nearby places to visit. But it was the not knowing what we were going to be faced with that put a damper on things

Thanks you for the feedback and apologies for the issues with the water drainage systems. We have subsequently cleaned out the septic tank and the pipes leading to the tank. Thankfully the problems you experienced have been corrected. Property Owner

  • "We have stayed here a number of times and find that it does have all we need."

It is comfortable and has a great location to walk into Dorchester. The garden is secure for our dog which is a needed as he will take himself off for a walk. We had a problem with the WiFi but a quick text and the owner sent someone to sort it within a couple of hours. So all in all a great stay and we will be back as the surrounding area has so much to offer.

  • "The bungalow was exactly what was expected."

I agree with some of the previous comments about it being a little dated. However made me less worried about dirty dog paws. My only negative comments would be that the mattress and pillows in the small room definitely need replacing, mattress was very uncomfortable and pillows hard. Also the shower needs a pump, very poor water power meaning I needed to use a jug over the bath to wash my hair. The bungalow is in a great location for walks and close to the town whilst still feeling rural.
